Chapter 3

(I hope you guys are enjoying this so far! If it's not obvious already, the story is set right before they go to Dressrosa. A lot is going to be different, but I hope you like it)

He groaned in his sleep, hearing whispers of voices around him. It wasn't until he opened his eyes that he realized what was happening. He looked at his side, a sleeping (y/n) against his chest. He looked up again at the company they had.

"Don't you people have anything better to do?" He grumbled

"Hey, don't act surprised. We've never seen you guys so close without trying to kill each other" Nami explained with a teasing smile "Did something happen?"

"No. We just fell asleep. That's all" He tried to exlain without them jumping to conclusions, but of course it was no use.

"Why were you out here together to begin with?" Robin joined in on the questioning

"Look, I know what you two are thinking and stop it. I may not like her but I'm still a good person."

"Says the man who delivered 100 pirate hearts to the government. (y/n) is a good person too. Maybe it's time you both stop this silly feud of yours?" Nami was actually tired of the fighting. She knew there was some tension and maybe (y/n) and Law just needed a little push.

"Try telling her that" He grumbled as he picked her up, taking her to her room so she could sleep and so he could get back to working out his plan. He laid her down and just stared down at her face "I know you want to know what's going on..." He spoke softly as he placed a hand on her cheek "What am I doing? I can't stand you, but here I am" He sighed and placed a light kiss on her forehead before leaving.

A little while later she finally woke up. How did she get to her room? What happened? All questions that only one man knew the answer to. She got out of bed and made her way to the library where she knew Law would be working on his so called "amazing" plan.

She barged in and shut the door behind her, walking up to where he was set up at a table and placed her hands on the map he was looking at.

"Can I help you (y/n)?" He asked boredly, looking up at her

"Did you take me to my room last night? I don't even remember falling asleep"

"Why does it matter?"

"It doesn't. I'm just curious"

He smirked and leaned forward across the table "If you must know, you cuddled up to me last night and slept all night against me"

She glared at him "and you didn't think to wake me up?"

"When you were sleeping so peacefully? To be honest, I like your sleeping form way better. So quiet" He teased

"I despise you, Trafalgar Law"

"Likewise"

They were leaned across the table, faces so close and tension so high it could be cut with a knife. His eyes trailed over her face, taking in her features. Even when she was glaring at him, her eyes were fierce and beautiful.

"Why are you looking at me like-" Her words were cut off by his hand on her cheek. He leaned in and spoke softly "Do you ever shut up?"

She shot another glare at him, to which he chuckled. She went to push his hand away but his other hand grabbed her wrist to stop her. She looked at his face once again and studied the serious look he had.

He leaned closer "Keep glaring at me and find out what happens"

"So you're threatening me now? I'm not scared of you"

"That's one of the very few things I admire about you, you're fearless, but stupidity comes with that"

"You wanna talk about stupid? You want to face Doflamingo on your own."

"It's my fight"

"But it doesn't have to be. Whether you like it or not, you made an alliance with Luffy. He sees you as a friend now. He's not gonna let you do anything alone and you shouldn't have to..."

"It's better if I do it alone..."

"Why? It's a death sentence"

"Well, then at least I will die trying to end his life" He grumbled and let go of her, backing away.

She walked around the table and faced him "Law..."

"Go away. I need to finish this"

"Ugh! Do ever care about anyone but yourself? There's people who want to help you and you don't even care!"

He kept his eyes on the map as he spoke "Why do you care if I die or not? You don't even like me"

"That doesn't mean you're not a good person. The world needs more good people like you and Luffy..." She put a hand on his shoulder "You don't have to do this alone. You're not alone anymore"

Law clenched his fists and closed his eyes, Corazon flashing through his memories. He couldn't let himself get close to these people...to her. He shrugged her hand off his shoulder "The world wouldn't miss me. I'm a heartless pirate with one goal in mind. Vengeance"

"Your crew would miss you. You're not as bad as you make yourself out to be."

"Can you just drop it already? I don't know need to explain myself to a brat like you"

"What's wrong with you? I'm trying to help you"

"Well, maybe I don't want your help"

"Too late. You've got it"

He snapped and grabbed her hips, pinning her against the table. He was seething with many emotions. Anger, pain, frustration, and maybe even fear. "Don't you get it?! Everyone I ever cared for is gone! I lost my family, Corazon...I vowed to myself to never care for anyone ever again, but here you are..." He trailed off, trying to get his thoughts together

"You think we'll die..."

"I know you will. Doflamingo took everything from me so I'm gonna return the favor. On my own."

"You don't have faith that Luffy can help?"

"I have full faith in your captain. I know he's powerful, but he has a future ahead of him that I won't get in the way of. He's gonna be the beginning of a new era."

She studied Law's face as she listened to him speak. In front her wasn't the grumpy jerk she had known, he was broken inside. He cared so deeply, but didn't want to in fear that the people around him would be stripped of their life. She reached up carefully and held his face.

"You're not alone in this..."
