Inspiration

I was riding through the country this summer when suddenly an idea for a story from months before started writing itself in my head. Has this ever happened to you? I usually think it sounds cliche when I read that a character "spoke" to a writer, but this summer, with this story, I lived a whisper of what writers may mean when they say that.

I was sitting in the car, listening to Final Fantasy music (I've never played the game – my husband thankfully chose this music), soaking up the sight of green-yellow fields rolling by while the sun played between jaw-droppingly beautiful clouds big enough to mimic mountains. I stared happily at the stream of trees and suddenly I was unlocking idea after idea for a story I am currently calling Lavender Fields.

#NaNoWriMo

This year, for the first time, I'll be participating in NaNoWriMo and Lavender Fields is the story I'll be writing. I'm still very eagerly revising In Your Dreams (here on Wattpad) - thank you so much to everyone who is reading it! - so it won't be easy but it's a good challenge, and it will be good for this perfectionist to get used to creating a story in this exploratory way. I've been inspired by writers who share their process and remind us that writing is about *writing* before it's about editing, and I hope that my writing here can be an inspiration for you too.

A reminder, therefore, to myself and to my dear fellow readers: This will be my first time publishing unedited work for a story that is very much a first draft. After NaNo, and after In Your Dreams, I will edit this story and make it better. I am pleased to share with you Lavender Fields, as it's written, while it's being written. I hope you enjoy!

Whether you're participating in NaNoWriMo or writing your own work, good luck! And to dear readers, thank you so much for your support!
