Chapter 56

Despite Oliver and Thea's attempts to dissuade her, Moira had insisted on going through with her confession, which was why she was currently in the interrogation room of the precinct, handcuffed to a pole after having just told Quentin everything she knew about Tempest and all the people on the list, since Oliver had recommended that Moira offer up what she knew in exchange for getting a reduced sentence.

When she was done, Quentin looked at her regretfully.

"All I can say is that you're lucky that the Green Arrow and his new team stopped this insane plan before anyone was hurt and that you've given us enough information to take down nearly every crooked business person in the city. Though I do understand why you kept quiet until now, since not only did Malcolm Merlyn sabotage the Queen's Gambit to kill your husband and attempt to kill your son, but he's been threatening your daughter and our shared granddaughter. But unfortunately, I don't see a way for you to avoid serving at least some jail time. But at least we can get you a deal for a reduced sentence at a minimum security prison instead of Iron Heights or Blackgate." Quentin said.

"I understand Quentin and it's better than I deserve." Moira said, right as a dark haired woman entered the room.

"Who are you?" Quentin asked as the woman handed him her card.

"I'm Samantha Gamble and I'm here to serve as Mrs. Queen's attorney in this matter. My husband Jake actually works with your daughter Sara Lance." Samantha said.

"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Gamble." Quentin said.

"I wish it were under better circumstances though." Samantha said.

"So do I." Quentin said.

"Now, can I have a moment alone with my client?" Samantha asked and Quentin nodded as he left her alone.

"Okay, so who are you really?" Moira asked, since she thought that Jean Loring would be her attorney.

"Exactly who I said I am. My husband works for Argus under Sara Lance, so I'm aware of your situation and since Sara is a family friend, it's on the house." Samantha said.

"Thank you, but how good are you?" Moira asked, wanting to be sure she was getting the best lawyer possible.

"Good enough to the point where you won't need to spend much time in prison, if any." Samantha said.

"What, why wouldn't I serve prison time?" Moira asked.

"Because Director Lance is in DC right now and she's trying to get you a presidential pardon, but that will still take a little time, assuming that she's able to get you a pardon at all. But in the meantime, I'll see if I can at least get you house arrest until trial." Samantha said.

"It's probably more than I deserve, but thank you." Moira said.

"Don't thank me yet. This is going to be one uphill fight and no matter what, I can't guarantee a win." Samantha said.

"I'm willing to take whatever punishment is deemed appropriate in these crimes." Moira said.

"Well, since it's mostly aiding and abetting charges, it'll likely be a few months, maybe a year at the most, since it's my understanding that you've already begun discussions to cut a deal for a reduced sentence." Samantha said.

"I have, though I probably should've waited for my lawyer to arrive before I started that." Moira said.

"Probably, but it doesn't affect much. I'll see if I can speed the process up a bit." Samantha said.

"Thank you Ms. Gamble. Is there anything else?" Moira asked.

"Well, there is the situation with your family's company, since with your criminal status, you can't continue to run it and would be prudent to distance yourself from the company by appointing a new CEO before this gets out to the public." Samantha said, since while corporate law wasn't her strong suit, she knew enough to know that.

"Which is why before I turned myself into the SCPD, I called a board meeting at Queen Consolidated where I stepped down as CEO and appointed my son Oliver as my successor, since Robert's dream was always to see Oliver run the company and now I think he's ready to take the reins." Moira said.

"Good. And making your son the CEO was the right call, since with all the good press he's getting with his community center, it'll definitely help public perception." Samantha said.

"I had the same thought. Oliver already has a reputation for helping the Glades and this city, so he'll put the company in a better light. But I should have everything I need for now. I'll be in touch when I have more information about what to expect." Samantha said and Moira nodded.

"Thank you Mrs. Gamble. For everything." Moira said.

"Don't thank me yet Moira. And please, call me Sam, everyone does." Sam said and Moira nodded as her new lawyer left her alone to be taken back to a holding cell.

Samantha Gamble is played by Cobie Smulders.
