Chapter 55

Sara Lance was currently a month away from her wedding to the love of her life, and yet, while Ava was handling last minute details for the wedding, she hadn't been able to be as involved in the planning lately as she would've liked to be since, right now, her job required a majority of her attention, since as the new Director of Argus, her job was basically rebuilding the organization due to how corrupt it had become under her predecessor Amanda Waller's leadership.

She just hoped that the past few months she'd spent rebuilding Argus wouldn't be wasted, since while the DEO had been able to handle adding Argus's workload in addition to their own, it was time to get Argus back up and running. Especially since she wanted to be able to start focusing on her upcoming wedding instead of her job, though that was proving to be a tall order since Lyla was currently out on maternity leave and Ava was preoccupied with their wedding plans, so that left Agent Gamble as Sara's only trustworthy agent, meaning that while she and Ava were on their honeymoon in Bora Bora, he'd be in charge.

"Director Lance." Jake said as he entered the command center, which, while it wasn't as heavily populated as it once was, it now possessed more people who Sara had vetted and cleared to either rejoin Argus or join in the first place.

"Agent Gamble. Was your mission a success?" Sara asked without turning her attention away from the monitors.

"Yes ma'am. Moira Queen was safely rescued and the Thanatos Guild was sent slinking away in defeat, with its leader exposed and his insane earthquake machines dismantled, though Team Arrow insisted on taking both devices into their custody." Jake said.

"Good. At least in their vault, we can be sure that those devices won't go missing like far too many things Argus was entrusted to safeguard. But the leader escaped?" Sara asked, since while Laurel had already called Sara and filled her in, she needed to hear it officially in Gamble's mission report.

"Ma'am, the leader of the Thanatos Guild was none other than Tommy Merlyn." Jake said and Sara closed her eyes.

"When Laurel called and told me everything Oliver had learned, I didn't want to believe it. Believe that one of my oldest friends was a terrorist. Growing up, Tommy was like another brother to me. He, Oliver and I, we were the reckless irresponsible ones with Laurel being the good one. And while we all changed over the years, I guess only Ollie and I changed for the better, while Tommy changed for the worst." Sara said.

"Is there anything I can do to help you?" Jake asked.

"Just finish filing your mission report and then go home to your wife and kids." Sara said.

"Yes ma'am." Jake said as he left her alone, right as Sara's phone rang.

"Hey Oliver, if this is about Tommy, I was just about to add him to Argus's most wanted list, which would put him on every other most wanted list too." Sara said to her future brother-in-law.

"It's not about him, it's about my mom." Oliver said.

"Agent Gamble just told me that she was rescued." Sara said.

"Yeah, but now she wants to confess to the fact that she worked with Malcolm and then Tommy, even though she wasn't willing, since it turns out that she found out that Malcolm put a bomb on the Gambit to kill my father and me, so after that, she went along with his plans to protect Thea." Oliver said.

"She was acting under duress and thanks to your team, no one was hurt and there's no real proof of any conspiracy." Sara said.

"I know, but she wants to expose everything she knows about Tommy's operation to ensure that no one who was in on it willingly gets away with it. She wants to expose everyone on my father's list." Oliver said and Sara sighed.

"Ollie, what is it you're asking me to do?" Sara asked.

"Sara, you're the director of one of the most advanced spy agencies on the planet, even though it's still rebuilding. There must be something you can do for my mom, keep her out of prison, since we both know that she doesn't deserve to go to prison. If anything, she's a victim." Oliver said and even though he couldn't see her doing it, Sara nodded.

"Look, I'm flying to DC in a few days for a check in with the President regarding the status of Argus's rebuilding, I'll see if there's anything I can do, but in the meantime, I do think that if your mom is intent on confessing, she might as well, since the fact that she's coming forward willingly will help me make a case. But I can't promise anything." Sara said.

"Just please try and do what you can." Oliver said.

"I will. Hopefully I'll at least be able to get her a lighter sentence." Sara said, since she didn't want to get his hopes up, since Sara had a feeling that despite the fact that no one had been hurt, once this story broke, the city would want to punish someone and Moira was the only scapegoat.

"Is there any way I could help?" Oliver asked and Sara got an idea.

"Look, after your mom comes clean, the city's going to be looking for someone to blame and she'll likely be the target. My recommendation is to find a way to focus that hatred onto someone else. Give them another target." Sara said.

"I'll see what I can do. Thank you Sara. Laurel might be the lawyer in your family, but your advice really came in handy." Oliver said.

"Remember Ollie, Laurel's the one you're marrying, not me. But I'm glad I could help you out. I'll let you know how it goes." Sara said.

"Please keep me posted." Oliver said as he hung up.
