Chapter 54
Tommy Merlyn was pissed as he watched the headlines on the news from his safehouse in New Carthage, since after Oliver had kicked his ass, he knew that it wouldn't be safe for him to stay in Star City, since there was no doubt that once the police interrogated Moira, she'd tell them everything. She'd even likely be willing to go to prison for cooperating with the Undertaking if it meant that she'd take him down with her.
Five years worth of planning. Millions of dollars spent to develop the earthquake machine and other assorted expenses. All of it ruined in about five minutes, since he'd had his people check and not only had Oliver's team disabled the devices, they'd also removed them to keep them from being reactivated.
"I'd ask if you're okay if I didn't already know the answer." Athena said, cautiously approaching her master.
"We need to lie low. Go beyond underground, since I have no doubt that Oliver will somehow put the pieces about the League of Assassins together and likely sell us out to Ra's al Ghul to buy time." Tommy said.
"I've already given the order for the Guild to withdraw from Star City and leave nothing of value behind. Hopefully your acquaintance will keep your former friend busy while we regroup." Athena said, referring to Deathstroke.
"One of the things that convinced me Deathstroke was the right candidate was our mutual hatred of Oliver Queen. He'll be able to keep my old friend distracted while we formulate a new plan. Issue orders to the Guild to covertly begin gathering intel on Oliver's team. I want to know everything there is to know about this Team Arrow so I can put them all in the ground with him." Tommy said.
"We'll get right on it." Athena said and Tommy nodded as he continued to ponder his next move.
The next day found Moira Queen lying in a hospital bed while she recovered from her ordeal, though even though she could tell that the threat of the Undertaking had been averted, no doubt thanks to her son's efforts, she still needed to atone for her sins and make sure that this plot could not be reignited.
But first, she needed to have a talk with her son and thank him, not only for saving her life, but for being an even better man that she'd ever thought he could be and that was saying something since her son was already a veteran, having served overseas in the military, he'd started a community center to help the people in the Glades get better in their lives and now he was regarded as one of the world's greatest heroes who'd helped save the world from Atlantis. She only wished that his father was here to see him now, since he'd be just as proud of their son as she was.
And it was the example that her son had set that had reaffirmed her decision to reveal everything she knew about the Undertaking, including her role in it, since while she knew she'd likely go to prison for it, if her son could survive the hell he'd gone through for the past 5 years, she could survive whatever consequences came from her setting things right. She just hoped that her granddaughter wouldn't think any less of her.
But before Moira could give it any more thought, she was pulled from her thoughts when her hospital room door opened and her children came rushing in.
"Mom." Oliver said as he hugged her and Thea wasn't too far behind him.
"I've missed you both so much." Moira said, happy she got to see her children one last time before she was most likely sent away.
"Are you okay mom?" Thea asked.
"Healing slowly, but I'll recover. It's better than I deserve." Moira said, being careful about what she said, since while she planned on telling Oliver that she knew his secret, she wasn't sure if he'd brought his sister into the fold yet and if not, she was more than willing to let Thea stay innocent awhile longer.
"Before I forget, Jasmine drew this for you. Laurel's watching her now, since we weren't sure what condition you'd be in physically and mentally. I'll let Laurel know to bring her by later." Oliver said, though he could tell from the look in his mother's eyes that she knew his secret.
"Okay, why don't we all stop pretending that we don't know my secret." Oliver said.
"What secret?" Thea asked, playing dumb.
"Speedy, you can drop the act. I'm betting that Deathstroke told mom who I am while he was holding her prisoner." Oliver said and both Queen women dropped the pretense.
"So you did tell your sister your secret?" Moira asked.
"I told Thea when you first went missing so I could reassure her that I could help you." Oliver explained.
"And you promised me that once mom was safe, we could talk about you letting me join your team. Especially since you brought an actual teenage girl to join your team and I'm a legal adult." Thea said.
"I'm sorry what?" Moira asked.
"Long story. Thea, we can discuss this when we're not at our mother's hospital bedside." Oliver said, making it clear that this was not the time or place for this discussion and Thea knew that her brother was right about that.
"Actually, there's something I need to talk to you both about." Moira said, deciding that she should be honest with her children before she went any further.
