Chapter 52
When Green Arrow arrived at the location Luke had given him, he was surprised to find Abby already there, and she was dressed in her own battle suit, a red and gold skin tight suit complete with a hood and face covering that honestly kind of reminded Green Arrow of Spoiler's mask.
"What are you doing here? I thought you were strictly medical support?" Green Arrow asked Abby, mostly out of concern.
"And normally I am, but if Arcane is in there, you're gonna need some real mystic firepower in there and while I don't use my powers often, I am one of the most powerful mystics on the planet. Besides, I was starting to get cabin fever being stuck in the barracks. I don't know how Luke tolerates it." Abby said and Green Arrow chuckled.
"Are you sure you're up to this?" Green Arrow asked.
"Your mom will likely need a doctor to check her out after we save her. Better that there's one already on scene. Now, shall we." Abby asked as she summoned a golden red staff.
"A staff, really?" Green Arrow asked, raising an eyebrow, since he knew that magic didn't really require wands or staffs to function.
"Shut up. You think you're the only one who gets to look badass when you're fighting. Trust me, the staff makes magic battles much cooler." Abby assured him and Green Arrow rolled his eyes and chuckled at her, but didn't argue with her.
"Fine, if you're trying to be cool, do you at least have a cool name picked out?" Green Arrow asked.
"What respected mystic doesn't have a cool name? Even Constantine has one, since that last name of his is definitely magical enough. My name is Eclipse." Eclipse said as Green Arrow noticed that her suit kind of gave her the look of a solar or lunar eclipse. At the base of her hood was a necklace that was in the form of a sun and crescent moon.
"Cool name." Green Arrow said.
"While I've got my own magic, my staff also allows me to tap into additional mystic power from the sun and the moon. My magic is at its strongest during solar and lunar eclipses." Eclipse said.
"Makes sense. But anyways, can we do this now. We've stalled long enough." Green Arrow said and Eclipse nodded as she turned to the abandoned train station behind her.
"Is this stealth or are we letting them know we're here?" Eclipse asked.
"If they don't already know we're coming, let them know we're here." Green Arrow said as and he could Eclipse was smiling under her mask.
"That's what I was hoping you'd say." She said as her staff and she used it to essentially blast the doors open.
"You've come a long way since we first met. The Abby I met back then would never use her power so freely like this. I like it." Green Arrow said.
"Thanks. Now let's get to work." Eclipse said as they went inside and walked right into a firefight, causing Eclipse to conjure up some cover for them as armed gunmen charged at them.
"I got this. Just keep the cover up and don't let them stop us. We're not leaving until we get what we came here for." Green Arrow said and Eclipse nodded as he fired multiple arrows at the shooters and Eclipse could tell that these were killshots, since he was not wasting time to get to his mother.
"Come on, keep moving." Green Arrow said as they continued on, only to be stopped by a man wearing his own mystic outfit.
"You must be Arcane." Eclipse said and the man nodded.
"And you are the one who broke my cloaking spell. I'm impressed. Not many mystics can break through my spells." Arcane said.
"Who are you? I call tell you're a much older man under that hood of yours, the magic you used, that's powerful stuff. Celestial level. How can any mortal channel that kind of power?" Eclipse asked, since she could feel the mystic power coming off this guy. It was stronger than any other magic she'd ever sensed, not that she'd had much experience before now.
"Why don't I give you an up close look?" Arcane asked as he summoned a spell circle to blast them, only for Eclipse to block it with her staff and retaliate with a solar spell seal.
"Keep going. I'll keep him busy." Eclipse said to Green Arrow, who nodded as she engaged her enemy while he pressed on.
"I'll admit, you're talented, but you don't have the skill to defeat me." Arcane said as they attacked each other again.
"We'll see about that." Eclipse said as they continued clashing spells.
When Green Arrow reached what he assumed to be the center of the station, he finally found his mother, tied to a chair, looking beaten, but not overly injured.
"Mom." Green Arrow said as he rushed forward, only to stop when someone put a sword to his mother's throat.
"Not so fast kid." said a voice that had haunted Green Arrow's nightmares for the past 4 years.
"No, that's impossible. You're dead." Green Arrow said, only to be stunned as the figure stepped out of the shadows to reveal a man wearing body armor and a dreadfully familiar mask.
"You should know better than most that I'm not that easy to kill. After all, you made sure of that." Deathstroke said before he removed his helmet to reveal the eyepatched face of none other than Slade Wilson.
"It's been a long time, kid. And I have been dreaming of this moment for a long, long time." Slade said with a grin as Green Arrow stared at him in shock and horror.
