Chapter 50
The moment Oliver had seen the SOS from Laurel coming from Tommy's apartment, his first thought was that whoever had killed Malcolm had shown up wanting to finish off the Merlyn family and since Laurel was there, that just doubled his decision to drop everything and order John and Tatsu to suit up, leaving Luke and Abby to watch Artemis, since this was not a mission for her since she didn't even have a costume or codename yet. Oliver had even reached out to Sara to see if she could spare either Gamble or Ava for this mission and she'd sent in Gamble to help, since even though she was aware of her sister's powers and when she wasn't busy planning her wedding or working on rebuilding Argus, Sara helped Tatsu train Laurel in combat, she wasn't taking any chances with her family's safety. The only reason she hadn't killed Oliver for letting her sister join this life was because she knew just as well as he did that when Laurel set her mind to something, it was almost impossible to talk her out of it, so she took it upon herself to help make sure that Laurel was prepared for whatever she might encounter.
Hell, if it weren't for the fact that as the Director of Argus and had too much on her plate in rebuilding the agency, she'd be getting involved herself. But she trusted Oliver to keep her sister safe, since after all, she trusted him to marry her and raise her niece. Besides, she'd read Oliver's Argus file and seen him in action. In all honesty, whoever it was that was threatening Laurel, Sara almost felt pity for them.
Anyways, Green Arrow and his team arrived at Tommy's penthouse, he deployed Katana, Spartan (John) and Hightower (Jake Gamble), to deal with the other assassins he saw outside the building for a second, he thought that maybe these were members of the League of Assassins, but then he realized that it was too small and too blunt an operation to have been performed by the Demon's Head, but still, this action did make him think that maybe he should keep a closer eye on what Ra's was doing, especially knowing now that one of his teachers was one of Ra's daughters.
Anyways, while his team was dealing with the footsoldiers, Green Arrow headed up to Tommy's penthouse, since he could tell from Black Canary's screams that was where the main fight was taking place. And if they'd been normal screams, he'd be even more concerned, but he could tell that these were her sonic screams, which didn't surprise him, since against an enemy like this, she wasn't skilled enough to be able to fight whoever her opponent was without them yet.
However, when he did arrive, he was shocked by what he saw.
His fiance trying to sonic scream his best friend into a wall.
"What's going on here?" Green Arrow asked as he rushed to his fiance's side, though he was more shocked by the level of skill his best friend was showing in combat. Not to mention the fact that Tommy was wearing the same outfit as the archer who'd put an arrow in Deadshot's eye months ago, since even though it had been awhile, Green Arrow hadn't forgotten about that.
"He's not a friend anymore. He's the one who put out the hit on Moira Queen." Black Canary said.
"What?" Green Arrow snapped, looking at his best friend in stunned disbelief, hoping this wasn't true.
"She's a loose end. Just like her husband was. And she'll meet the same end he did." Tommy said.
"What are you talking about?" Green Arrow demanded, hoping that didn't mean what he thought it meant.
"Do you really think that the Queen's Gambit went down in a mild category 2 storm. From what I heard, that ship has sailed through that kind of weather before. No, my father put a bomb on it and then I convinced my best friend to go on that ship, hoping that when he went down with it, I'd finally have a chance with the girl he stole from me. But even then, Oliver couldn't die and he made sure that I'd never have a shot with Laurel." Tommy said, unknowingly saying everything in front of the two people he'd tried to hide things from.
"You knew there was a bomb on the Gambit and you not only didn't tell the authorities, but you encouraged me to get on it." Green Arrow asked angrily, not realizing what he'd said.
"What do you mean you? Unless, oh how did I not see it before. Like when you first became active. Ollie." Tommy said with a sick grin on his face and Green Arrow didn't even bother to deny it.
"Go help the others. This piece of shit is mine. I owe him some payback. Not just for me, but for my father." Green Arrow said to Black Canary, who nodded as she was allowed to leave.
"I'll get to her soon enough. But for now, I like the way you think, keeping this between us. At least when I kill you, I have the courage to do it face to face, unlike my father, who was a coward about how he killed yours." Tommy said as he pulled up his own hood and mask.
"What happened to you Tommy?" Green Arrow asked.
"Thomas Merlyn died a long time ago. I am Prometheus now." Prometheus said as he unsheathed his sword that was strapped to his back.
"Then I'll just ask you one more question before we do this. Where is my mother?" Green Arrow demanded.
"You really think I'll give that information up willingly?" Prometheus asked.
"Figured it was worth a shot out of respect for our past friendship. That is, assuming we were ever friends in the first place." Green Arrow said.
"We were friends once. But that was a long time ago. And our friendship ended the day you stole Laurel from me." Prometheus said.
"I didn't steal her from you. She made a choice on her own." Green Arrow said.
"Enough. Let's do this. I've been waiting for this for a long time." Prometheus said as the two former friends charged at each other.
