Chapter 49
One of the things Laurel had noticed since her cry had surfaced was that her hearing had intensified too. Like maybe even to kryptonian level super hearing, which had caused her to suffer intensive and debilitating headaches when the hearing had kicked in, though her mother had quickly swooped in and taught her how to tune out the excess sounds and now she didn't even need to focus to tune out the extra noise, but sometimes, it slipped up accidentally.
Like now, maybe it was because her mind was distracted about Tommy as she heard his voice as she got out of the elevator in his apartment building, despite the fact that Tommy's apartment was on the other end of the hallway from the elevator and she could see his door was closed.
She was about to tune out his voice so she wouldn't be eavesdropping, especially since it sounded like he was dealing with his father's funeral arrangements, but then the nature of the conversation turned into something else. Something more sinister.
"With my father gone, we can now accelerate our timetable to as soon as possible. And once the Undertaking is set in motion, you can go ahead and do whatever you want with Moira, since she'll be of no further use to us." She heard Tommy say and Laurel froze when she heard that, since it almost sounded like Tommy had something to do with Moira's disappearance.
"This is cold, doing this to your best friend's mother. But then again, I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering you're the one who pushed Oliver Queen to go on the Gambit in the first place when you knew that your father placed a bomb on it." Laurel heard an Australian voice say.
"That bastard stole the love of my life from me. He deserved what he got and when we're done, he'll be yours to play with as you please." Tommy said, unaware that said love of his life had heard every word he'd said and she was furious.
"Still, that's cold. I never thought I'd meet someone who hates Oliver Queen as much as I do. But then again, I guess I do have you to blame for bringing us together in the first place." she heard the australian voice say.
"By the time we're done, Oliver will wish he'd died before he ever reached that island." Tommy said.
"On that we agree." the other man, Slade, said and Laurel had heard enough as she reached into her pocket and pulled out the new ring Bruce had sent her, since it was a new innovation being distributed throughout the hero community and while this wasn't exactly how Laurel wanted to make her debut in Star City, she didn't have choice, especially since it sounded like she owed Tommy an asswhooping anyways for taking Oliver away from her for five years. But she also knew that she'd need help, so before she put the ring on, she pressed the button on the side, which would send an SOS signal with her exact location to the Arrow Computer in the Barracks to alert her fiance that she needed back up.
After she did that, she slid the ring, which bore a canary symbol on it, onto her finger and pressed the emblem, causing it to release a black super suit that was made up of a black leather jacket with yellow detailing and fishnet material that is nearly zipped up to her neck with long sleeves covering her entire arms. A bodysuit, pants, a garter-like belt, leg holsters, thigh-high boots, and fingerless gloves are included and all made of leather. And at her waist, where a belt buckle would be was a yellow circle with her family's canary symbol on it. In her thigh holsters were two tonfas that she knew could be combined into a bo staff, around her neck was a choker like device that was designed to help her focus her canary try and on her face was a domino mask to conceal her identity.
"Damn, I look good in this." Black Canary said as she pulled out her tonfas before rushing closer to the door before taking a deep breath.
Tommy had just wrapped up his call with Slade when suddenly, a loud piercing scream blasted his front door to pieces and sent him flying backwards so he landed on his stomach.
"What the hell?" Tommy asked as he looked up to see a new vigilante, a blonde woman dressed in leather, walk through his now empty doorway.
"Thomas Merlyn, you have failed this city." Black Canary said, trying to emulate her fiance as much as possible.
"And who are you supposed to be?" Tommy asked, since there was something familiar about this woman, but he couldn't place it, but he also knew that his assassins would be here any second to deal with her.
"I'm the Black Canary. And you have a lot to answer for. Starting with the abduction of Moira Queen." Black Canary said as she prepared to unleash her cry again, only to have to duck as members of the Thanatos Guild popped up out of nowhere.
"Maybe I didn't think this through." Black Canary admitted to herself, since while she was skilled, she wasn't at Oliver's level. At least not yet.
Still, she just needed to buy time for the cavalry to arrive.
"Are you alright sir?" one of the assassins asked Tommy as she helped him up.
"Yes. Secure the perimeter in case Green Arrow and his friends show up." Tommy said.
"What about you?" the assassin asked.
"This woman wanted an audience with me so badly, I'm gonna grant her one. Right before I remove her from the equation." Tommy said as the assassin handed him her sword.
"As you wish." the assassin said as she and the others left them alone.
"Let's do this." Tommy said as he charged at Black Canary, only to be knocked back by her scream again.
