Chapter 47

The next morning, Artemis woke up hoping to find out that everything she'd learned the night before was just a bad dream, that her family wasn't full of criminals and she wasn't living with a foster family after watching her mother be towed off to the prison. That she'd wake up in her regular bedroom, surrounded by mementos of her childhood that wasn't ruined by the truth of her family.

But when she opened her eyes, she deflated in finding that there was no such luck, since she wasn't lying in her childhood bedroom, but in a guestroom in the Queen Family penthouse that she'd been told to make her own room. Which could only mean one thing.

"It's all real." Artemis said as she tried to get her bearings, right as she felt a small hand tug her arm and she turned to see a very cute little girl staring up at her.

"Hi, I'm Jasmine and you're my new big sister." the little girl said happily with a grin on her face that was so infectious that despite her situation, Artemis couldn't help but smile.

"Hello Jasmine. My name is Artemis." Artemis introduced herself and saw that her door was opened, even though she'd closed it last night, though she suspected that her guest was the reason for that, right as her new foster mom Laurel Lance poked her head in.

"Artemis, I see you're up and I'm sorry if Jasmine woke you. I told her to let you settle in, but she snuck away. She's too much like her daddy in regards to her sneakiness." Laurel said with a teasing smile to her daughter.

"I just wanted to say hello. You said I had a big sister now and I was excited." Jasmine explained her actions and Artemis smiled.

"It's okay Ms. Lance. She didn't wake me up and she actually helped me smile, something I didn't think I'd be able to do anytime soon." Artemis said.

"Still, she should've at least knocked. And I told you to call me Laurel." Laurel said.

"Right, sorry, it's going to take some getting used too. All of this." Artemis admitted.

"I understand. But breakfast is ready." Laurel said.

"Did you make it or did daddy?" Jasmine asked and her tone made Artemis pause before responding.

"Don't worry, daddy made it." Laurel said, rolling her eyes, since she was well aware that Oliver was the chef of their family. Something she still didn't know how that was possible considering the way he grew up.

"Then let's go before it gets cold." Jasmine said as she grabbed Artemis's hand and Artemis couldn't help but chuckle as she let her new little sister drag her out, since she'd always wanted a little sister, so in a way, she'd gotten something good out of this.

When they got downstairs, Artemis was shocked by the breakfast buffet that her new foster father, Oliver Queen, had prepared.

"I wasn't sure what you'd like, so I made a bit of everything and Jasmine, you need to let Artemis have first dibs." Oliver said, since he knew how much his daughter loved his cooking, but Artemis was the one who needed a home cooked meal right now and he had made a bit of everything for her. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon and sausage.

Artemis made a beeline for the pancakes and bacon as Laurel put Jasmine down in her booster seat before going to put a plate together for her.

"Thank you for doing this Oliver, but you didn't have too." Artemis said.

"I wanted to. Especially since I know better than most what it's like to have your life turned upside down." Oliver said.

"Right, I saw the news report about you being found on that island. I can't imagine what that must've been like." Artemis said as Oliver and Laurel exchanged looks, since after breakfast, they had an important place to take Artemis.

"Yeah, it was rough, but I found my way and we're going to do everything we can to help you stay on yours." Oliver said.

"Thank you. But what am I gonna do for school? Since you're rich, do I have to transfer to some snobby prep school?" Artemis asked, but Oliver shook his head.

"No. You'll keep attending Star City High, since I don't want to uproot your life anymore than you already have been. Unless you want to transfer to my alma mater Balloi Prep." Oliver said.

"Pass. All my friends are at Star City High. I just hope that they won't become total jerks to me after they find out that my parents are criminals." Artemis said, since that was one part about going back to school that she was dreading.

"Don't worry, they won't give you trouble since now you have money." Oliver said, since Artemis may only be a foster child, but he intended on treating her like she was his biological daughter.

"I can't take your money." Artemis said.

"Artemis, you're family now and that means that you have the same access to my family funds that I had at your age and that Jasmine will have when she gets older." Oliver said.

"That's going to take some getting used too." Artemis said.

"I know. But now eat up. After breakfast, we're dropping Jasmine off with Laurel's mom before we take you to pick up your stuff from your old house." Oliver said and Artemis nodded as she continued digging into her breakfast.
