Chapter 43
"Are you sure this is necessary?" Tigress asked her husband and partner Sportsmaster as they rushed out of Starling General Bank, the fifth bank they'd knocked over since they'd arrived in Star City.
"The boss wants us to do whatever it takes to get the green guy's attention and then once we do, we take him out. Remove the immediate problem." Sportsmaster said, though unlike his wife, he was loving every second of this. He loved the rush that came from crime.
"I still don't know why I agreed to do this." Tigress said, since while there'd been a time where she'd reveled in work like this, now, she just wanted to go home to their teenage daughter Artemis, who thought they were on a romantic getaway, since she had no idea that her parents were hardened criminals.
"Because this is good money and we need to repair our reps after those hits we took in Gotham." Sportsmaster said.
"You really think I still care about that? We should be at home with our daughter, especially after I let you turn Jade into something like us." Tigress said angrily, since their older daughter Jade took a bit too much after her parents.
"Please, Jade's stronger because of my influence. You're coddling Artemis is gonna make her soft. She'll never make it in this life if you don't let me start to toughen her up." Sportsmaster said.
"Forget it. I'm gonna make the same mistake with Artemis that I did with Jade. Once this job is done, so am I." Tigress said.
"You think you can just walk away. I don't think so." Sportsmaster said, only their argument to be interrupted by a green arrow embedding itself in the ground and Green Arrow, Katana, Spartan, Black Canary and Huntress slid down the zipline attached to it.
"Sportsmaster, Tigress, you have failed this city." Green Arrow said as he notched an arrow and aimed at them.
Tigress quickly weighed her options and knew what she had to do.
"Finally. I was wondering what it was going to take to draw you out. Time for the fun to begin." Sportsmaster said as he pulled out his bat.
"I don't think so." Surprisingly it was Tigress who said that as she aimed her crossbow at her husband.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Sporstmaster asked her.
"Something I should've done a long time ago." Tigress said.
"What's going on here?" Black Canary asked her fiance.
"I think that Tigress finally got tired of being Sportsmaster's accomplice." Huntress said.
"And she's a fool if she really thinks it'll be that easy." Sportsmaster said as he dropped an exploding hockey puck, causing everyone to scatter.
"I'm not going down that easily." Sportsmaster said, right as the smoke cleared to find Green Arrow standing in front of him.
"That's fine. But you are going down." Green Arrow said as he knocked the bat out of Sportsmaster's hand and slugged him right in his hockey mask covered face.
"Who hired you?" Green Arrow asked him.
"I never spill my client's information." Sportsmaster said.
"Don't be so sure about that. Unlike Batman, I have no qualms about getting the information I need from you by any means necessary." Green Arrow said as he fired a cable arrow to tie Sportsmaster up.
"That won't be necessary." Tigress said.
"Don't you dare." Sportsmaster threatened her.
"I'm tired of this life. I never should've let you bring me back into this life. Think about our daughter. She doesn't deserve to see her parents sent to prison for the rest of her life." Tigress said and Black Canary saw the look in Tigress's eyes. It was the look of a mother who truly cared about her child and wanted to do better.
"I believe her." Black Canary said as Tigress walked up to Green Arrow and held up her hands in surrender.
"Promise me you'll keep my daughter safe and protect me from the wrath of our employer and I'll tell you everything I know about him." Tigress said and Green Arrow saw nothing but truth in her eyes.
"You understand that we can't reveal the location of our base to you, so." Green Arrow said.
"Go ahead and tranq me. I understand." Tigress said, since she wanted to prove that she'd changed.
"Do it." Green Arrow said to Spartan, who nodded as he loaded a tranq dart into his gun and fired it at Tigress, who let it hit her willingly before she passed out into Katana's arms.
"Spartan, Katana, get her back to the Barracks. Canary and I will deal with Sportsmaster." Green Arrow said, knowing that whoever hired them would be on the hunt for her for this betrayal.
"Have Magi run a scan on her. Just to be safe." Green Arrow said to Spartan, who nodded as he and Katana headed out while Green Arrow and Black Canary turned to Sportsmaster, who was still trying to break free from the restraints.
"You really think you can get away from me? With your partner cooperating, we have even less need to let you get away. I hope you enjoy Belle Reve." Green Arrow said.
"You really think I give a damn? Tigress was deadweight, holding me back. I'm glad she's gone." Sportsmaster said, pissing Canary off.
"Okay, I've had enough of this guy." Black Canary said as she unleashed her Canary cry to send Sportmaster flying backwards.
"Time to go." Sportsmaster said as he dropped another smoke bomb and when it cleared, he was gone, leaving only the empty cables where he'd been lying.
"Damn it." Black Canary said.
"It's okay. We got what we needed. Let's just hope that Tigress can lead us back to Moira Queen." Green Arrow said, in case whoever was behind this was listening.
