Chapter 40
To say Thea was shocked when the secret elevator in her brother's community center opened up to reveal what had to be the Green Arrow's secret bunker based on the color scheme and the fact that the Green Arrow suit was on display on one of the walls.
"Wait, does all this mean what I think it means?" Thea asked her big brother as he walked in, looking like he was in his element.
"Welcome to the Barracks Thea. And now you know that I'm not just going to leave mom's fate to the police." Oliver said.
"You're the Green Arrow. My older brother is a founding member of the Justice League." Thea said, trying to wrap her head around this.
"Bit of a shock isn't it?" Laurel said as she walked up to them and gave Oliver a quick peck on the cheek before pulling Thea into a hug.
"Of course he told you." Thea said, not even surprised.
"I wasn't gonna risk secrets destroying my relationship with Laurel or my daughter, though I don't think Jasmine fully understands what that means yet." Oliver said.
"She does not. She just knows that her daddy is her hero. And speaking of which, my mom's watching Jasmine now so we can focus on finding your mom." Laurel said.
"Where are we on that?" Oliver asked as Luke, Abby, John and Tatsu joined them.
"I've accessed literally every surveillance camera in the city and I can't find any trace of her, I'm still working on satellite recognition." Luke said.
"I've tried using every locator and tracking spell I can think of, but whoever took your mother has some experience with magic, since she's blocked from mystical tracking too." Abby said.
"Sara's already made this a top priority for Argus, since this one's personal and it's not like Argus is doing much now anyways." John said, since while Laurel was the director of Argus's sister, John was their official Argus contact.
"Okay then, Luke, Abby, keep trying your respective methods and Luke, reach out to Bruce, see if there are any resources that he can offer, since I know that he'd be interested in this considering his own family history." Oliver said.
"I think that Thea has a more direct line to him than I do now. Not to mention a way to get some extra manpower." Luke said.
"What are you talking about?" Thea asked.
"Luke." Oliver said.
"Oliver, if you're bringing her into this world, then she deserves to know the full truth." Luke said.
"Except it's not our truth to tell her." Oliver said.
"You're right, it's mine." A new voice said and Thea was shocked to see her girlfriend enter the Barracks.
"Helena, what are you doing here?" Thea asked.
"I was already enroute after I saw the news about your mom, since there was no way I was going to let you deal with this alone, though I was not expecting to find you down here." Helena said, since while she'd planned on telling Thea the truth about her family soon, this wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind.
"How did you even find this place?" Thea asked.
"My dad's company built it." Helena said.
"Wait, what?" Thea asked, since so many bombs had been dropped on her that she was getting confused.
"Can we have a moment in private?" Helena asked and Oliver nodded as he let Helena lead Thea away.
"What's going on Helena?" Thea asked.
"This wasn't exactly how I was planning to tell you, but I guess since your brother's brought you into the life, then now's the time. My dad is Batman and he trained me to be one of his proteges, the Huntress, but I hung up my mask when I decided to go to college and my decision was cemented after I met you. I wanted to leave this life behind, since while I'm proud of all the good I did for Gotham as Huntress, I wanted a normal life." Helena said.
"Were you ever going to tell me?" was the first thing Thea asked her.
"Yes. I was actually going to tell you over dinner on our anniversary. But I'm sure you can understand why I waited to tell you?" Helena said and Thea nodded.
"Yeah, it's a huge secret, one of the most important ones in the world. I can understand why you'd want to make sure that you completely trusted someone before you told them." Thea said.
"I do trust you Thea. More than any person who's not a member of my family. I just, I needed to be sure that we were building something that would last. Something like what your brother has with Laurel or what my parents have before I told you." Helena said.
"Does your mom know about your dad?" Thea asked.
"My mom was Catwoman before she retired to raise my little brother Damien. And I'll give you the complete breakdown of the Bat Family after we get your mom back." Helena promised.
"Okay. And Helena, while this isn't the ideal way for me to find out the truth, I'm glad that you trusted me enough to tell me, since I could tell that you've been keeping something hidden from me for awhile and I've been trying to resist the urge to confront you on it, since I didn't want to come off as that kind of girlfriend." Thea said.
"Thea, you have to know I wouldn't commit to you, to us, unless I knew that I was going to tell you the truth. But anyways, we should get back to your brother and before you start pestering him with questions, you have to remember that he's not the same guy he was when he left on that yacht. You have to be patient and trust that he'll tell you this stuff when he's ready." Helena said and Thea nodded, though that wasn't what was going through her head right now. Both her brother and her girlfriend were heroes. She couldn't help but want to follow in their example. She'd discuss it more with them after her mom was safe.
"Well?" Oliver asked Thea, though he noticed that she and Helena were holding hands, so that was a good sign.
"I'm not mad that you all kept this from me, since I understand why you kept this secret and I couldn't be prouder to know that my brother is a member of the Justice League. Any chance you can call them in on this?" Thea asked.
"This isn't a League level event, but I'm assuming that Bruce is on standby if we need any help?" Oliver asked and Helena nodded.
"Considering the way he lost his parents, he said that he's more than willing to help make sure that you don't lose another parent after losing your dad." Helena confirmed.
"I'm guessing there's a reason you brought that case with you?" Luke asked, referring to the case that Helena had brought in with her.
"You really think I'm gonna pass up a chance to earn some points with my girlfriend's mother?" Helena asked.
"I thought that you retired?" Oliver asked.
"So did I. But now that Thea knows the truth, I can't deny that I miss this life a bit." Helena admitted.
"Anyways, while you two were talking, we've been trying to figure out a motive for the abduction." John said.
"Do you think it could have anything to do with you being the Green Arrow?" Thea asked and Oliver shook his head.
"I haven't been active long enough for any of the lunatics in this city to piece my identity together yet." Oliver said.
"He's right about that. And considering that there haven't been any demands made, I don't think she's being held for ransom either." John said.
"Which means that your mom likely pissed off the wrong person in this city. The only question is who?" Helena asked.
"That's what we're going to find out. I'm gonna go and reach out to my contacts in Bratva, see if they know anything." Oliver said.
"I'll reach out to other mystics I know to see if any of them know of a way to bypass whatever mystic camouflage is hiding Moira from my spells." Abby said.
"Keep me posted and make sure you're ready, since if magic is involved, we're gonna need you in the field." Oliver said and Abby nodded.
"What about the rest of us?" Laurel asked.
"Time for the new Black Canary to make her debut. You, John, Tatsu and Helena are on patrol, see what you can find and Luke, see what you can dig up on your end." Oliver said and they all nodded as they got to work.
"What about me?" Thea asked.
"Stay here and keep tabs on the police investigation. Luke, do not let her leave until we get back." Oliver said, since he recognized the look in his sister's eyes and he did not want her to get any ideas. At least not yet.
