Chapter 24
Martin Somers was currently on his way out of his office towards his car, looking around nervously, since now that the hit on Laurel Lance had failed, it was even more likely that he was going to be found guilty in the Nocenti case. Granted, while he'd ordered the Triad to take Laurel out, he didn't think they would plant a bomb in her car, that drew too much attention to him.
Of course, a very small part of him did feel guilty about the fact that Laurel was a mother and he'd been trying to take a mother away from a young child, but he quieted that part of himself by reminding himself that the girl had her father back now and she had a rich family, so she'd be fine.
However, just as he was getting into his car, an arrow hit one of his tires.
"What the hell?" Somers asked, only to turn around to see a man in a green leather hood standing on the rooftop above him.
"Martin Somers, you have failed this city." Green Arrow said angrily as he jumped down from his perch and approached Somers.
"What is going on?" Somers asked, fear blocking his brain.
"You attempted to have Laurel Lance killed. Give me one good reason why I shouldn't return the favor?" Green Arrow asked, since while he wanted to kill Somers more than anything in the world right now, he knew that wasn't the right thing to do and that Somers was more valuable alive, but he did want Somers scared, since he and Batman did share a philosophy that it was better to have these criminals be afraid of him for the sake of the city.
"I can pay you double whatever that bitch is paying you to do this." Somers offered, thinking that money could solve all his problems, unaware that the man under the hood who was threatening him was already twice as rich as he was, so there was nothing Somers could offer him, even if he wasn't rich.
Which was why all Somers got in response was an arrow in the leg.
"You'll still be able to walk away, despite that injury, but if you don't watch what you say, I'll make sure you never walk again." Green Arrow said angrily, since he was beyond pissed right now as he aimed his bow higher.
"What do you want?" Somers asked, terrified by this.
"You know what I want. You're going to confess not only to having Victor Nocenti killed, but that you were the one behind the attempted murder on Laurel Lance. Otherwise you'll spend the rest of your life in prison in a wheelchair." Green Arrow promised.
"I can't, the Triad will kill me." Somers begged as the next arrow Green Arrow shot landed in the car roof, right next to his neck.
"I only miss when I mean too. And right now, the Triad isn't here. But I am. So I guess you need to decide which of us you're more afraid of." Green Arrow growled.
"I didn't kill anyone, it was the Triad." Somers finally caved.
"Acting on whose orders?" Green Arrow demanded, even though they both knew the answer.
When Somers hesitated, Green Arrow fired another arrow right between his legs.
"Alright, it was mine. Nocenti said he was gonna testify against me and that Lance girl was getting too close to the truth." Somers admitted tearfully, only to stop as Arrow heard someone appear behind him and turned to see a familiar asian woman with white hair standing in front of him.
"Move away from him." The woman spoke in Mandarin.
"Make me." Green Arrow responded in Mandarin as the two rushed each other, her knives clashing against his bow as Somers just watched in terror as two of the most terrifying people he'd ever met fought each other for control of his life. And he honestly wasn't sure which one he wanted to win, since they both seemed to be very evenly matched, but eventually, the green guy got the upper hand.
"Surrender." Green Arrow snarled at his opponent in Mandarin.
"Never. You want to take me down, you'll have to kill me." his opponent said in Mandarin, right before they heard police sirens approach.
"I don't need to." Green Arrow said as he fired four arrows to restrain her to the ground before she could get away and then he fired another arrow into the car near Somers, which carried a recording of Somers' confession before he made his escape.
"So, how'd it go?" Luke asked Oliver when he returned to the barracks, his mask now off and his hood pulled down.
"Check the news to see for yourself." Oliver said as Luke did exactly that to pull up the news report of the arrest of both Martin Somers and Chien Na Wei.
"Damn, two for one." Luke said.
"Yeah, but I doubt that Wei will stay in prison here for long." Oliver said.
"Why?" Abby asked.
"Well for starters, she's one of the Triad's highest level assassins, which means that the Feds will be taking jurisdiction for her and even then, they'll have to fight off at least 12 other countries that have warrants for her arrest, including her home country of China, which I'm guessing will win, if she even stays in custody that long." Oliver said.
"How do you know so much about her?" Abby asked as Laurel joined them, holding a now asleep Jasmine.
"Let's just say that I didn't spend the entire five years I was gone on the Island. I spent part of them being forced to work for a government organization called Argus, run by a woman named Amanda Waller." Oliver said.
"Batman told me all about her. Woman who's just as amoral as the people she's supposed to keep the world safe from." Luke said and Oliver nodded.
"Long story, I'll tell you later, but Wei and I have met before. And I'm pretty sure that the alias she goes by now is China White. And people like her don't stay in prison for long. She'll be out soon and likely with a vengeance. I'm just grateful that she never saw my face in any of the times I've fought her, since it means that she won't be able to target my family." Oliver said.
"Still, taking down Somers, not to mention recording his confession of killing Victor Nocenti and attempting to kill me, you just made my job a lot easier." Laurel said to her fiance gratefully.
"I'm just curious, but who's gonna protect the city when you two are off on your honeymoon, since just like how Gotham can't survive without someone dressing up like a bat, I'm not sure if Star City can survive without some lunatic dressing up in green leather." Luke said.
"I think it's a little early to assume that." Oliver said.
"I can already tell." Luke said, right as Jasmine began to stir a little in her sleep.
"Okay, I think it's time we get this little bird back home and put to bed and then after that, Ollie, we are going to have a talk that you don't want to have, but you know we need to." Laurel said and Oliver nodded.
