Chapter 2

The past five years had been hard for Laurel Lance. Ever since she'd lost her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, Oliver Queen. They'd first met when they were kids and they'd been lifelong friends ever since and by the time they'd started middle school, Laurel had developed a not so small crush on him. It had been thanks to the help of Oliver's little sister Thea and their close friend Tommy Merlyn that she and Oliver had gotten together during their sophomore year of high school, much to the anger of Laurel's own sister Sara, who'd had her own crush on Oliver, but Laurel had beaten her to the punch and it turned out that Oliver had actually had a crush on her too, so things had been perfect when they'd finally gotten together, though her father had not been happy about it, since as far as he was concerned, Oliver was a no good trust fund brat who didn't deserve his daughter.

Which was why, much to Laurel's chagrin, after they'd graduated, while she'd made plans to go to college and eventually law school, since she wanted to be a lawyer, Oliver had chosen to enlist in the military in an attempt to get her father's approval, since her dad was actually a veteran and he was hoping that if Oliver enlisted, Quentin might finally start to approve of him.

And Laurel had to say, the two years that Oliver was deployed in Afghanistan had definitely put a strain on her relationship with her father, since she blamed him for Oliver going off and potentially getting him killed just because he was overprotective of her and she'd said that if Oliver died overseas, she'd never forgive him for it, since the only reason he'd enlisted was to get his approval, something that Quentin had taken to heart, since the fact that Oliver was willing to do that had earned him some respect in Quentin's eyes, especially since he could tell that Laurel was all in on Oliver and that if he wanted to have a place in his daughter's life, he'd have to learn to accept that Oliver was a part of it.

Which was why when Oliver got home from overseas, he officially gave Oliver his blessing to not only date Laurel, but also to marry her, since it was clear that things were heading in that direction.

Laurel still smiled as she thought back to the day Oliver had proposed to her. It had been about a week after he'd come home from being overseas and he'd arranged an entire romantic weekend for them out of town, where he'd rented a beachside cabin for them. It was very remote and isolated, just the two of them, away from the paparazzi who loved to harass Oliver just because he was the son of Robert Queen, the CEO of Queen Consolidated. The night they'd arrived, Oliver had set up a delicious moonlight beach picnic for the two of them and Laurel had found the box containing the ring at the bottom of the basket and that was when Oliver had proposed to her, which she'd agreed to immediately before he could even finish asking her. She'd also smiled when she'd realized that instead of just buying her a random engagement ring, Oliver had given her her grandmother's engagement ring, which he'd gotten from her dad before they left.

But, just when things looked like they were at their highest, disaster had struck. After they'd gotten engaged, Oliver had discovered a big secret about his father. A secret that he'd told her, but no one else until after he'd confronted his father about it. He'd discovered that he had another sibling, as a result of his father having an affair with another woman and that affair had resulted in him having a daughter, a secret sibling that he'd never known about. Laurel had understood his anger, but had encouraged him to confront his father in private before he went public with it.

That was why Oliver had gone on the Queen's Gambit, to confront his father about his mystery sister, but then it had gone down and Laurel's heart had broken after learning that the love of her life was dead and deep down, part of her blamed herself, since if she hadn't had given him that advice, he never would've been on that boat.

After it went down, Laurel had gone to Moira and confronted her about what Oliver had told her and had been furious when she discovered what Moira had forced Robert to do to Emiko and her mother, just because she'd been jealous. Laurel told her why Oliver had been on the Gambit and placed part of the blame for her son's death on Moira, since if it weren't for Moira, Emiko could've grown up in the family and Oliver never would've needed to confront his father in the first place.

But then something had happened that forced Laurel to welcome Moira back into her life and eventually allowed her to forgive her. She discovered that she was pregnant with Oliver's child. Laurel hadn't even considered abortion, since this child would be the only piece of Ollie she had left. When Moira found out, she was delighted at getting a grandchild, despite the circumstances, they had something to celebrate and she'd assured Laurel that she'd cover every medical expense she needed to, since she wanted to ensure that her grandchild would receive the best care possible, which Laurel had been grateful for, since honestly, if it weren't for that, along with the continued support of both her family and the Queen family, she wasn't sure she would've made it through the pregnancy.

It was at one of her appointments that Laurel had met one of her future life long friends, Abigail Sawyer, who'd become her personal doctor and had actually been the one to deliver her daughter, Jasmine Olivia Queen. The one pure bright spot of Laurel's life.

Or at least, that's what she thought until today. Right now she was packing up her desk at the DA's office as she prepared to go and pick Jasmine up from her grandmother's house before taking her home when her phone rang and she had to admit, she was curious when she saw that it was an unknown number that was coming from the other side of the world.

She only answered it to get herself taken off the call list for this telemarketer, but she froze when she heard the voice on the other end. The voice of the love of her life and her fiance, Oliver Queen.
