Chapter 10
~Narrator's P.O.V~
The tall, stripy clown stomped through his special carnival, grumbling to himself as he walked through the wailing toys.
-How could anyone think like that? How could she believe being alone was such a good thing?- He growled slightly, -If she really knew what it was like...-
He stopped near the end of the plush toys, staring at the one on the end.
"Kaden Kaden... You weren't alone were you? No one ever abandoned you..?" He held the plush doll in his clawed hand, it wailed and shook in his hold, "No, I didn't think so."
He left it to hang on the rope, swinging in the air ever so slightly. He huffed and continued to walk, one of his clawed hands was rubbing his head,
"How could she believe that?" He mumbled, closing his silvery eyes, "To be happy if everyone left... If everyone forgot her, she'd see it differently..."
Finally, he let out a sigh, before walking through one of the many booths. He appeared in a park, which was currently full of children. A smirk slowly formed on his white face and he skipped over to a blonde girl.
The girl was playing in the sand, building a horrible looking sandcastle. It crumpled slightly and she pouted, crossing her tiny arms.
"I give up!" She whined and threw herself back into the sand.
"Give up? Why would you give up?" Laughing Jack bounced over, leaning over the little girl. She let out a gasp, sitting up.
"Who are you?!" She asked excitedly.
"The name's Laughing Jack kiddo!" He bowed and smiled.
"Wow! You're so tall!" She giggled, before turning to an older woman, who was sat on one of the many benches, "Mummy! Mummy! Look how tall Laughing Jack is!"
The woman looked up, blinked in confusion, before smiling and nodding, "Yes... Very tall..."
She went back to looking at her phone. The clown chuckled, happy to be invisible to the naked eye. The little girl turned back to him,
"My name's Susie! Wanna help me build my castle?"
"Sure thing kiddo!"
And for the rest of the afternoon, the clown sat and played in the sand with the young child, telling funny jokes and making her fall over with laughter. After a while of rolling in the sand, Laughing Jack was able to convince her to play hide and seek.
Happily, the young girl took off into the trees nearby, and the clown smirked evilly. Glancing back at the mother, he started to hum a soft tune, a familiar nursery rhyme.
"Five little ducks went out one day... Over the hill and far away..." He let out a giggle, "Mother duck called 'quack quack quack quack, but... None of the little ducks came back..."
He let out a laugh and skipped into the small woods, looking through the trees and bushery. As he skipped through the greenery, he started to wonder about (Y/N), what she might be doing right now, and if she knew she had upset him. He huffed and shook his head.
-No, focus on your kill... You don't need to think about your other victim...- He thought to himself, -Yeah, victim, right...-
Growling to himself, he looked around the small forest in search for the young girl. Little Susie was rather easy to find, but LJ felt like toying with her, even if she didn't know the fate that was soon going to catch up to her. How else could he take his mind of the female he left alone?
-Not like she'll mind- He frowned, before shaking his head and smirking wide.
"Susie!" He called, "Where are you?!"
He heard her giggle and his smirk widened, "Is she up there? Why no, so where is she?"
Her giggles became muffled, as if she was attempting to hide them. But the clown already knew, and as he neared the little girl, he dragged his claws along the trunk of a tree. Very slowly, quietly, he stopped behind the tree and leant next to the girl's ear.
"Found you.."
She squealed and laughed, falling on the floor, "You scared me!"
"Well duh! That's the point!" He put his clawed hands on his hips.
Suddenly, Susie's mother called out, her voice ringing through the trees, "Susie! Come on, time to go home!"
"Aww..." The girl pouted, "I have to go..."
The clown frowned, kneeling in front of her, "No you don't, play with me some more."
"But mummy's calling me..."
"She can wait a few more minutes. Just one more game. Please?" He tilted his head, smiling.
"Um... Okay..." The child seemed unsure, "What game is it?"
"Oh... A fun one..." The clown chuckled, before lifting her up, "It involves candy~!"
"Candy?" She tilted her head, "Mummy told me not to take candy from strangers..."
"Well I'm no stranger, am I? Besides, you have no choice." He chuckled, before taking an unwrapped piece of candy and holding it to her face, "Have a taste and tell me what you think!"
She stared at it, before nodding eagerly and taking the sweet treat, popping it into her mouth. A few moments passed and she smiled,
"That was yummy! Do you have anymore..?"
"Oh... Plenty..."
~LATER~
The clown was giggling to himself, watching as the police searched the small forest near the park. The site of paramedics trying to get the mutilated girl from the trees was rather entertaining, as they ended up covered in blood, guts, and candy.
Happy with his work, the clown headed home. The long isle of booths echoed with wails, and when he looked towards Zaden's plush toy, he found another hanging beside him, her wails not as loud as the others.
"Welcome home Susie! Oh, I think I had a few others with a similar name..." He let out a giggle, "Don't worry though, they won't bite!"
The plushies wailed louder, their sorrowful cries pleasing the clown. Enough was never enough, and that thought brought (Y/N) to mind. When would he kill her? And how?
He hummed to himself, rubbing his chin in thought, "She would make a lovely asset to my collection..."
But the thought of murdering her felt, strange. Like if he murdered her, he'd taint her value, she wouldn't seem as special. But why was this the case?
He'd never seen killing as a problem, or as a way of lessening one's value. More or less, he saw it as making them one of a kind. But, as he looked amongst the many toys that littered his hall of stalls, he wondered if her value would be tainted. She'd be just like these children, a wailing toy.
-No...- He growled at himself, -No I don't want her soul... So what do I want...?-
He frowned and rubbed his head, before looking up at the forever cloudy sky. If he returned and she asked why he left, would he tell her?
And why did it matter?
-Because... That's letting her in dumbass...- He groaned and held his head, -Remember the last time that happened?-
His mind was a mess, he didn't know what to do. Why didn't he want to kill her? And why did what she say bother him so much? He tried to think, but now, all he could think about was how he was abandoned, and he sighed.
"It's different... She wouldn't understand..."
She also wouldn't understand why he had abandoned her, and a pang of guilt went through his chest. He just left her alone, as he was left alone over 200 years ago.
"Well... That settles is then..." He sighed, before walking to one of the many stalls.
Soon enough, he was back in her house, standing in her room. Looking around, he noticed it was dark, and seeing the sleeping figure in bed, he assumed (Y/N) was sleep. Deciding to leave her, he went to walk out of the room, but couldn't stop himself from glancing back.
He watched the blanket rise and fall to her breathing, wondering how just a week ago he was attempting to murder her. Walking over slowly, he peered down at her curled-up form, tilting his head.
"What makes her so special...?"
She stirred and rolled over, gripping onto the pillow tightly and he sighed. He'd be better off figuring it out on his own anyway.
I'm sorry I feel like this is a shit chapter ;^; It took me a few days to write it, the motivation sort of died while I worked on my other X Reader... But I got it done right? Idk, it feel so rushed... Is it rushed? Is it messy? Is it confusing?
Please tell me, I want to make it better.
Haven Out!!!
