The sun dragged itself along the sharp edge of the horizon and continued to crawl until it could brush its sun rays along the tree trunks. But with the rise of the sun, the morning was accompanied hand-in-hand with a new disaster that shattered the serenity hovering above the prison like an early morning dew.
Taehyung couldn't believe his eyes as he stared down at the charcoaled skin of two dead bodies laying on the concrete ground in a more secluded area of the prison. The clothes of the bodies had been chewed away by the famished fire, only leaving behind a single cream-coloured bra on which, he presumed, was the female of the pair.
Both bodies were laying on their back, facing the blue sky above them. Their hair had been burned off until only the charred skull remained, and the features that once made them stand out among the crowd were nothing but a crumbled piece of dust sprinkled across the memories of the people who loved them.
The sight was absolutely horrendous and gruesome, it made Taehyung eye the bodies with a grimace and even wince as he caught the glimpse of the charcoal skin cracking open to reveal some parts of pink muscle underneath. But even if the sight was repulsive, the smell was the worst part.
That horrible acrid odor that radiated off of the bodies with a hint of sulphurous, crawled through Taehyung's parted lips and dragged itself down to his lungs. The sharp nails of the odor left behind claw marks that made Taehyung raise his hand and cough into his fist.
It was Tyreese who found them and recognised their identities, Karen and David, even though Taehyung didn't know them personally no one deserved to be killed and burned until all that was left of them was a mere memory that lingered in the shadows of everyone's mind.
Tyreese had called Rick and the rest of the group immediately after finding the two bodies and since Taehyung and Jungkook were lounging in the younger's cell after spending the night talking about what Taehyung had missed during his time away, Tae decided to come along to survey the scene. But after everyone stumbled upon it, the group was thrust into a pool of silent tension that could have only been sliced apart by the leader himself.
"You found them like this?" Rick managed to push out, flicking his eyes away from the still crackling, smoking bodies to peer at Tyreese's back.
Tyreese gulped and curled his fists, his eyes lingered on the dead bodies for a moment longer before he turned away to face Rick instead, "I came to see Karen...and I saw the blood on the floor, then I...I smelled them." Tyreese's voice was barely above a whisper of breath, his shoulders were slumped and eyes dazed in what Taehyung assumed was a mixture of shock and grief.
The man didn't look like he was taking this situation well, but who would be if they came across the dead body of their lover? Taehyung could only imagine what kind of pain Tyreese was currently in from not being able to spend his last moments with Karen or even say goodbye, what's even worse is that he had to see her this way. This image of her would flash in his mind every time he remember Karen - almost as if the flames that ate up her body, ate up the memory of her too.
It seemed as though Tyreese was thinking about the same thing because the next second, his eyes flared up in anger, "Somebody dragged them out here and set them on fire! They killed them and set them on fire!" Tyreese bellowed, swinging his hand in the direction of the two trails of blood leading up to the bodies and the two cans of gas resting next to them. Yet despite the hostility shadowing his words, Taehyung could still taste the lingering traces of raw pain and sadness on the tip of his tongue.
Beside Taehyung, Jungkook shifted uncomfortably and turned away from Tyreese with a small wince, instead choosing to gaze at one of the brick walls encasing them. The rest of the group wasn't any different - Carol seemed tense as she crossed her arms over her chest and stood a bit further from the rest, while Rick was speechless and confused as if not knowing what to do, Daryl, on the other hand, kept his eyes locked onto Tyreese in case he decided to act on his emotions and lash out at the rest.
"You're a cop." Tyreese breathed out, whirling around to face Rick. He stomped towards him until the leader and Tyreese were chest to chest, which resulted in Daryl moving forward to hover behind Tyreese. Taehyung stepped closer to Rick with his hand resting on the hilt of his throwing knife in case something were to go down, "You find out who did this and you bring them to me. You understand? You bring them to me!" Tyreese raised his voice, allowing a few droplets of spit to fly past his lips and splatter onto Rick's shirt.
Daryl eyed the pair before moving forward and laying his hand on top of Tyreese's shoulder to pull him away from Rick, "We'll find out who.." Daryl began, only for his hand to be smacked away and for Tyreese to step even closer to Rick.
"I need to say it again?" Tyreese huffed, uncurling and curling his fingers. Taehyung eyed him warily and glanced at Rick - unsure of what to do in this situation. It seemed wrong to treat the man as if he was a threat when, in reality, he had just found out that his girlfriend was dead and he was grieving. Taehyung didn't want to use violence toward a man who was consumed by grief, but if the situation escalated they'd be forced to stop it.
The leader exhaled sharply and shook his head, "No, no. I know what you're feeling, I've been there, you saw me there." Rick raised his hands in surrender and almost seemed to curl into himself to make himself appear more harmless in Tyreese's eyes as he stepped forward and spoke in a gentle tone, "It's dangerous." Rick murmured, but Tyreese brushed off his words and spat back.
"Karen didn't deserve this! David didn't deserve this! No one deserves this!" Tyreese growled, turning a bit to the side to spare a look at the crackling bodies.
Daryl sucked in his cheeks and went forward, he grabbed Tyreese by his shoulder and pulled him a step away from Rick, "Alright, man-"
Tyreese whipped around and grabbed Daryl by his collar with a loud shout ripping through his chest, "Man, I ain't going nowhere until I find out who did this!" Tyreese bellowed as he slammed Daryl against the brick wall behind him and held him, hostage, there.
The group snapped into action at the sudden act of violence - all rushing forward to try and pry Tyreese off of Daryl, only for the archer to raise his arms and stop them before they could reach the pair. The tension flooded into the area and watched the group with a taunting smirk, it trailed its fingers along the shoulders of each group member and snickered to itself at the sight.
The clasp that held Taehyung's throwing knife in place got unclipped the second Tyreese moved. Unknown demons swam along the pitch-black darkness of his eyes and his fingers curled tighter around the hilt of the knife with each exhale of breath from Tyreese. Taehyung watched his muscles ripple and tense, he watched his hands tighten around Daryl's collar as Tyreese tried to bundle up his emotions and brush them under a carpet to hide them.
"We're on the same side, man." Daryl murmured - voice lacking any anger or hostility towards the situation. Taehyung was in awe of how calm and collected Daryl looked while being shoved against a wall by a man twice his size and weight. He knew that if Tyreese was the violent type, which he was not since Tyreese was usually very peaceful and hated violence, he could do some serious damage to Daryl.
Jungkook watched the scene with the weight of a bowling ball resting in his stomach. His eyes fleeted over the group until they fell on the dead bodies, Jungkook flinched away from the sight as if he was the one who did this, even though he had no ties to the crime committed here. He could only manage to slip his hand off of his gun and reach towards Taehyung to push his fingers away from his weapons too.
Taehyung's hand fell away and head twisted in his direction until their eyes connected, "He's just grieving." Jungkook breathed out in Korean, making sure that the whisper of breath didn't reach Tyreese's ears in case it triggered him.
"That's not an excuse." Taehyung grumbled back, pressing his tongue against the inside of his cheek as he turned to keep his eyes back on Tyreese.
Jungkook's face crumbled and turned sour, he stepped up to Taehyung and leaned forward to hiss through gritted teeth, "I grieved too." The bunny boy leered at the older, earning himself a small wince from Taehyung, followed by his expression and posture softening in guilt. Taehyung was well aware of what Jungkook had done in the past during his own time of grieving, they even spoke about it the night before, but he never meant for his own words to be a jab at Jungkook's past.
Taehyung exhaled through his nose and blinked down at the pavement before moving forward to stand next to Rick, "Tyreese, look, we're not gonna let this go and we will find who did this. But you need to calm down." Taehyung murmured in a deep, soulful voice. It surged through the air and knocked on Tyreese's eardrums, causing him to release Daryl and whip around to face Taehyung.
"Don't tell me to calm down!" Tyreese spat, shoving a finger into Taehyung's chest to push him back a few steps. Taehyung gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes, he could feel the frustration at this situation begin to seep into his skin and embed itself into his veins.
Rick decided to step forward by pressing the back of his hand against Taehyung's stomach to push him away from a furious Tyreese, "We know what you're going through." Rick spoke calmly, stepping in front of Taehyung to make Tyreese's piercing glare fall off the boy and onto him instead, "We've all lost someone, we know what you're going through." Rick continued, accidentally stepping too close to Tyreese's, which resulted in the black man pouncing forward and pushing Rick back a couple of steps.
"You need to stay the hell back!"
Taehyung's brows raised under his hair and eyes bounced between the two men in alarm. He could sense the dark shadows of anger falling on Rick's face and the danger looming over the room like an omen of death. The group tensed and stood eerily still, too afraid to make the slightest move that could trigger Tyreese into crossing the line or make Rick's anger topple over the edge and burst out of him.
Rick rolled his head around as if to brush away the anger tugging on the curly strands of his hair, he gulped down the words threatening to crawl through his throat and managed to push out a single string of sentences, "Karen wouldn't have wanted this." Rick gritted, barely holding himself back.
His word seemed to be what stabbed the knife into the wall that stopped Tyreese's anger from swallowing all of them whole, because the next thing everyone knew, Tyreese was pouncing forward with a reeled back fist and slamming it against Rick's cheekbone. The leader's head swung to the side with a small grunt before he stumbled to the ground from the weight put into the punch.
Daryl jumped forward to grab Tyreese and pull him away from Rick, while Taehyung squeezed himself between the pair and raised his hands up in surrender in order to shield him. Jungkook crouched down next to Rick to check on the damage done to his face, while Carol pressed her hands against her lips and watched the scene in shock.
"Hey, hey, that's enough!" Daryl hissed, still trying not to slip the venom into his words. He grabbed Tyreese and began to hold him back, only for the man to rip himself free and swing his fist once again, yet this time, his knuckles slammed into Taehyung's jaw.
Taehyung's head whipped around and blood rushed to his mouth, he lost his balance and fell to the ground with a small grunt. His palms scraped against the gravel and hair fell into his eyes, a veil of whiteness shielded his vision before he blinked it away and collected the blood in his mouth. Taehyung spat the glob of saliva and blood out - the mixture splattering against the pavement underneath him. His head whipped around and he glared up at Tyreese through strands of raven hair, yet didn't retaliate and merely watched Daryl grab Tyreese from behind - this time stronger and firmer than before.
Jungkook was quick to leave Rick's side and crouch down next to him instead, the bunny stared at the side of his face with concern and reached out to brush his fingers against the spot where Taehyung had been punched, "You okay?" He whispered, tracing the reddening skin.
Taehyung didn't respond and allowed Jungkook to touch him, instead, he chose to look at Rick and make eye contact with the leader. Rick's eyes drank in the sight of Taehyung's blood-coated lips and the slight grimace of pain twisting his features. The hellfire of pure anger flashed through Rick's eyes before the leader pushed himself up to his feet and began to stalk toward Tyreese.
Rick's fist swung back before flying forward and hitting Tyreese with such force that the man fell out of Daryl's hold and landed on the ground. Tyreese grunted and pushed against the ground, only for Rick to kick him into the stomach and make him fall back against the pavement. The leader proceeded to climb on top of Tyreese and deliver punch after punch against Tyreese's face.
"Rick..." Daryl warned, but the leader didn't listen until the archer and Jungkook scrambled forward to grab him and rip him off of Tyreese. Taehyung watched in shock as Rick's face twisted into a wolfish snarl and he struggled against the hands holding him back. His sweaty hair framed his face and swayed in front of his crazed eyes that were glaring at Tyreese's limp form.
"Rick, Stop!" Jungkook shouted, digging his heels into the ground and tightening his grip on the leader until his nails were digging into his skin.
"Let go of me!" Rick shouted at them, ripping his hands free and pushing them both away, "Let go of me!" Harsh pants rocked his chest up and down and his gaze finally cleared up as Tyreese rolled onto his side and began to cry to himself in grief.
The anger seeped out of him, leaving behind the realisation of what had just occurred. Rick's eyes dropped down to his bloody knuckles before lifting and taking in the wide, fear-filled eyes of the group around him.

After the entire ordeal this morning, Taehyung's cheek had been briefly checked by Hershel before he was sent on his way with a warning of an oncoming bruise. Taehyung's mind was a mixture of silently accusing anyone he walked past of being the person who had burned Karen and David, and reeling back in time when Jungkook was explaining the changes that had occurred during the time he was gone.
One of those changes involved the harvest grounds, more specifically, the cucumber plants were relocated closer to the fence in order for them to climb it and grow better. Jungkook said that not many people wanted to go water the cucumbers since they were so close to the outside world, which resulted in the group going out to collect a few pieces of wooden fences for the cucumbers, and then relocating the plants where they had previously been growing.
Taehyung had decided that checking out the crops and maybe snacking on the few delicious products growing there was a great way for him to distract himself from everything that has been happening in the prison. But while Taehyung was admiring the cucumber plants one of the people taking care of the plants, Reese, came up to him and offered to teach him about them since she thought he was new and was going to be helping with the plants.
"See this?" Reese reached out and pushed away the leaves of the plant to reveal an emerald green cucumber with little prickles all over it. Two pairs of eyes drank in the sight of the vegetable and the way one of its ends seemed to be thinner than the other. The black girl reached out her other hand and tapped her finger lightly against the narrow side of the plant, "Often times irregular shape can come from the lack of moisture. Cucumbers are made out of the water so they need a lot of water to grow." The girl turned her head to the side and smiled up at a curious Taehyung.
A small crease had formed between Taehyung's narrow brows and his lips were thinned out into a straight line, he crossed his arms over his chest and nodded at Reese to continue. She nodded in return and looked back down at the vegetable, "When you pick them, don't just yank them. Gently grab them by their stem to hold it..." The girl did as she said, all while trying to keep the leaves away from shielding Taehyung's line of sight, "...and then gently twist until it snaps off." Reese mumbled and twisted the cucumber until it snapped away and fell into her hand.
Reese took a hold of the cucumber, ignoring how it dug its spikes into her skin and allowed the leaves to fall back to shield the vegetables. She pivoted around and peered up at Taehyung with a kind smile, "It's quite easy actually, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it eventually if you ever decide to help out around here." Reese shrugged her shoulders and offered Taehyung the cucumber.
A deep hum rumbled in the depth of Taehyung's throat as a reply to the girl's uttered words. He reached out and plucked the vegetable out of her hand, before twirling it between his fingers and bringing it up to his lips for a bite. Taehyung sank his teeth into the cucumber and bit off the tip of it, "Fresh vegetables are something else." Taehyung drawled, dipping his tongue out of his mouth to lick away the juice dripping down his lip.
Reese's gaze followed the movement before she gulped and twisted away, ignoring the growing smirk on the seam of Taehyung's lips or his piercing eyes digging into her back as she muttered a few parting words and rushed away.
Taehyung snorted and watched her leave, lifting the cucumber to take another bite out of it, only for a hand to fling out and snatch it from him. Taehyung paused his chewing and snapped his head to his left, his line of sight was suddenly filled with Jungkook standing next to him and taking a chunk out of the cucumber. Jungkook's eyes were narrowed and jaw chewed a bit too hard down on the cucumber as he gazed in the direction the girl went.
"How did the meeting go?" Taehyung asked, dragging his eyes along Jungkook's jaw as it moved with each chew.
While Taehyung went to relax and distract his mind, Jungkook, as a part of the council, was requested to go to a meeting to figure out what to do from now on. Of course, certain parts of the information discussed there were supposed to be classified, but Taehyung had certain privileges, unlike the rest.
Jungkook sucked in his cheeks and pursued his lips, still staring after the girl, "Who was that?" The bunny boy asked instead, swallowing down the bite he took out of the cucumber to peer up at Taehyung through his lashes.
Taehyung blinked back at him for a minute too long before a smirk saunter onto his lips and plopped down on the plump surface, "Are you jealous?" Taehyung huffed out in amusement, trying to suck in his bottom lip to stop himself from laughing.
Jungkook's lips pursued and eyes dropped down to the cucumber he was twirling between his fingers. He tightened his grip on the vegetable and brought it up to his lips to sink his teeth into the watery thing once more, "Yeah." Jungkook nodded around the vegetable, looking right into Taehyung's eyes as he uttered his answer with complete seriousness.
The smirk on Taehyung's face faltered for a split second and the amusement shimmering in his eyes was washed away by something rawer. Taehyung reached out and grabbed Jungkook's hands, causing Jungkook to release his grip on the cucumber and for it to fall into the grass by their feet. Taehyung ignored the confused noise bubbling through Jungkook's chest as his hands were brought up to Taehyung's face and inspected.
"What are you doing?" Jungkook huffed, peering down at the fallen cucumber laying by their feet. He turned to look back at Taehyung and allowed his nose to scrunch up when Taehyung carefully inspected each of his fingers.
"Checking your ring size, I should get you one, no?" Taehyung's cheeky answer matched the grin spread across his lips, which earned him a slap against his chest. Taehyung released Jungkook's hands to throw his head back and laugh at Jungkook's sour pout and slitted eyes.
Taehyung continued to laugh, only for his chuckles to get sliced apart by a cough digging its nails into his throat and clawing up to reach his mouth. Taehyung's expression dropped and he pressed his face into the crook of his elbow as he coughed. He could feel the bony fingers of pain prodding at his lungs and scratching along his throat with each cough that ripped out of him.
Jungkook watched him in concern and laid his hand on Taehyung's bicep once he stopped coughing and offered the younger a weak smile, "Are you okay?" Jungkook tilted his head to the side and rubbed Taehyung's arm in comfort, still looking concerned for the male even if he had stopped coughing.
"That's the second time you've asked me that today." Taehyung teased and reached out to boop Jungkook's nose, which scrunched up at the contact, "But yeah, I'm fine, just laughed too hard."
"Anyway...." Taehyung waved the subject away and nodded at the prison with his chin - indicating for Jungkook to move towards it, "What did you discuss at the meeting?"
Jungkook heaved a sigh and visibly deflated, he dragged his feet through the grass of the field as they began to trudge towards the prison, "The group is heading out to get some antibiotics for the virus, but the place is 50 kilometres away so it's gonna take a while." Jungkook informed the older, receiving a hum in return.
Taehyung's eyes dragged along the field until they fell on Tyreese. He watched the man stab his shovel into the ground and begin to dig graves for Karen and David. The others had offered to help him, but Tyreese had brushed them off and decided that he should be the one to do it.
"So they have a..." Taehyung trailed off, but cut himself off mid-sentence when he felt another cough drag itself up his throat and just rest there. Taehyung pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek and visibly swallowed the cough.
"Tae?"
Taehyung's eyes snapped up and connected with the questioning ones of Jungkook. The boy nodded at him to continue what he was saying, but the only thing that Taehyung could focus on was the heaviness in his legs, and the sweat dripping down his neck and soaking into his grey shirt. Taehyung inhaled shakily and took a step away from Jungkook, trying to swat away the panic looming over his shoulder with a nasty smirk plastered on its face.
"How about I talk to you later alright?" Taehyung forced a plastic smile on his face and took another weak step back when Jungkook tried to approach him.
Jungkook noticed the move and froze- blinking back at Taehyung with parted lips and a large question mark hovering above his head, "Wha-"
"I'll see you later, bun." Taehyung swallowed thickly and wiped his sweaty palms against his jeans before carefully moving around Jungkook in order to stumble towards the prison without coming any closer to Jungkook.

Fuck
fuck
fuck
fuck
fuck
That seemed to be the only word that was thrown around Taehyung's head and resting on the tip of his tongue. His sweaty hand grabbed onto the back of his shirt and ripped it off of his body, while the other hand flung the shower curtain shut behind him. Taehyung stumbled towards the shower and grabbed onto the knob to turn it open, causing the icy water to splash onto his back.
Fuck
Taehyung scratched the word into the crevices in his mind as he laid his forehead against the cold tile in front of him. He could feel the water soaking into his hair and trailing along his exposed body - washing away the layer of sweat and dirt on his nude body, and cooling his burning skin.
Taehyung's mind was grabbed and ripped back into the past. Could it be the virus, Taehyung wondered, peeling his eyes open to blink at the droplets of water rolling along the valleys between the white tiles of the showers. He parted his lips and allowed the water dripping off his head to dance along his features until it reached his mouth and glided along his lips.
He couldn't have the virus, could he? Taehyung asked himself once more, pressing his palm against the tiles in order to push himself off the wall and take a step under the direct water source. Taehyung held his breath as the water washed away the grime on his face before he turned around and pressed his hands against his face to flick the water away.
Taehyung wasn't sure if he had the virus or not, but what he was certain of were the claws of an oncoming cough lingering in the back of his throat like a lion waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. But even if Taehyung didn't know whether the coughing was because of the virus or not, he knew that coughing is one of the symptoms and he didn't want to get Jungkook or anyone else sick.
But if Taehyung had the virus, how long did he have it? Did he have it when he spent the entire night with Jungkook laying in the same bed and whispering to each other in Korean? Did he have it when he was talking to Reese this morning or when Tyreese punched him? He surely had it then. Would it be his fault if they got sick too? Would he die because of this virus so many already had?
Taehyung didn't want to die, he wasn't ready at all. It's the end of the world and he has all the time in the world, yet Taehyung suddenly feels like there's so much to do yet he doesn't have enough time to do everything he desires.
The further Taehyung sank into his thoughts, the more they began to spill through his lips and fill his lungs. He didn't even realise that he was drowning in his own fear and panic until the cough that was kept at bay ripped through his chest with a snarl of its own.
Taehyung slumped against a wall with his forearm pressed against it as the vicious coughs tore through his throat and squeezed his lungs. His head was light and the muscles in his legs trembled. Despite the ice cold water cuddling against his nude body, Taehyung could feel the heat of the virus slithering out of its hiding place and wrapping its deadly vines around his limbs.
Taehyung's coughs continued to mix together with the sound of water splashing against the tiles until he pressed his palm against his mouth and coughed out something warm. The cruel coughing seized its attack and glided back into the back of his aching throat with a satisfied smirk. Taehyung panted harshly with his eyes squeezed shut and chest aching with each intake of breath. He barely managed to peel his eyes open to glance down at his hand, only to see blood splattered against the inside of his palm.
Taehyung flinched back at the sight and scrambled to wash it away, just as the door to the bathroom creaked open before clicking shut. Taehyung froze and took a step back to lean against the wall behind him for comfort and stability. He listened to the clicks of boots until they stopped further into the bathroom and were replaced by the low gruff of Daryl's voice.
"Someone said that it sounded like someone was sick in here. Get dressed and come out." Daryl called out throughout the bathroom- the command clearly noticeable between each letter of his words. Yet Daryl still didn't dare to take a step further in the direction of the only working shower.
Taehyung averted his eyes from the white curtain that shielded him from Daryl to peer down at his bloody hand. His tongue felt heavy in his mouth and heart dropped into his stomach as he guided his clean hand behind himself to shut off the shower.
Taehyung wanted to speak, he wanted to say something to Daryl - to warn him or inform him of his sickness, but Taehyung was struck with shock at the fact that if the antibiotics won't be brought back in time, he'd die inside a cell, surrounded by unfamiliar people. And in his mind, that was the worst way to go.
The heavy silence swaddling the room was enough for Daryl to begin to move forward toward Taehyung's cubicle. Taehyung's eyes slowly dragged up and he stared at the white curtain in front of him before turning his back to it with the help of his trembling legs.
Just as Daryl was about to reach the cubicle, Taehyung began to glide his tongue along his teeth and weakly called out, "Don't come in." He pressed his forehead against the wet tiles and shut his eyes, wincing when Daryl's boots stopped just on the other side of the curtain.
"Come out." Daryl demanded- sternness with a droplet of concern shadowing his words. Taehyung exhaled shakily at the demand and allowed his bloody fingers to curl into a fist just as another weaker cough slid past his lips.
"Dont...come in." Taehyung repeated once more, not moving an inch, except for dropping his hands to his sides and allowing his shoulders to slump in defeat.
The curtain behind him was flung open, followed by the heavy weight of the silence engulfing the room. It seemed as though the winter itself blew its icy breath into the room and caused everything to momentarily freeze. Taehyung could feel Daryl's eyes burning into his back, which made him blink his eyes open and look at the archer from over his shoulder.
Taehyung's eyes connected with Daryl's before the younger raised his bloody hand and uncurled it to show the blood he had coughed up, "I have it." Taehyung breathed out, staring back at Daryl in fear, causing the archer's brows to knit together and his shoulders to tense.

Quick question. Do y'all see the titles of these chapters or, for example, in 'Act I' the characters' names and shit? Because the font is different than wattpad can offer and someone told me that the titles of my books weren't able to be seen so I switched them to normal. And now I'm wondering if all the fonts I've used from the internet are just some X's....
