27. Twenty Seven

"Don't turn your back to me!" Jungkook shouted, raising his arms and letting them fall again by his sides.

"And you don't scream at me!" Lisa shouted back, walking out of their bedroom.

"Well don't make me! How about that!"

Lisa turned and stopped him from following her. She held a hand ahead of herself making him halt, and looked at him right in the eyes.

"Honestly Jungkook I'm tired" she said, lowering her tone but keeping the same exhausted expression on her face.

"Do you think I'm not? Do you think I'm enjoying this?" Jungkook asked, digging the tips of his fingers in his chest "I'm out here looking like an entire fool trying to save the little bit left of what we had, while you're out there throwing yourself at the first guy who smiles at you!" Jungkook pointed out, his heart clenching at his own words. His eyes were glassy, his hair disheveled from running his hand through it, his jaws gritted.

"That's not fair" she knit her eyebrows.

"You think?"

"It's unfair for me! I was trying to be friendly, I was never cheating on you like you cheated on me!" she brought up the topic again which seemed to be almost a scapegoat for her now.

"I was fucking drunk Lisa! I realized and apologized! I regretted it and never let anything like that happen again! What else could I have done to make you realize it was a mistake?" he said yet again, completely over that argument.

"It still happened"

"Will you stop using that as an excuse at last?" he chuckled humourlessly.

"So now you're undervaluing my insecurities?"

"Oh please, not the victim act. I did kiss a stranger that night but then, I thought about it and- I saw you that night, because I wanted to see you! I wanted it to be you who smiled at me and pulled me in like that... I missed how we used to be and all the fighting buried those memories deeper everytime, what happened to you loving me?" he let all his frustrations out and felt his heart beat faster in his chest.

"Did I have to tell you everytime?" she asked as it if was the most absurd thing ever.

"Yes! I didn't see it, I didn't feel it, I didn't think it... You haven't let me touch you for weeks now, whenever we interact we end up arguing, we sleep at each side of the bed...To be honest with you, I don't believe you did, so tell me if I'm wrong, do you love me like I love you Lisa?" he asked, his eyes wide and hopeful, watching her every reaction and change in her eyes. Feeling his heart break at every second she took to answer.

"I'm... so sorry Jungkook" she finally spoke and watched his expression turn into a straight one, losing all depth and emotion.

"You really don't" he breathed out.

"I guess I fell out of love at some point, I don't know myself" she admitted, feeling nervous from Jungkook's blank face. "I didn't mean to hurt you I promise" she tried, hesitating to take any step closer to him at that moment. "I was also frustrated by how it didn't feel the same with you anymore, but you were always trying to make it better and failing" she added.

Jungkook had sat on the couch while she was standing a few feet away from him. The tension in the room could be sliced with a knife and it was suffocating to Lisa, she felt so bad for causing so much ache to her boyfriend. She knew he deserved way better than that but it was all too late now.

"Say something Kook"

"Truthfully, I think I said enough" he spoke, his voice a lot quieter, its true sound coming out and the words getting hard to hear.

Lisa didn't know what to do anymore but she understood one thing for sure, their relationship was past saving. She nodded slowly, deciding it would be best to give each other space, a lot of it, and took a step back.

"Lisa" Jungkook called and she stopped to hear what he had to say "If you... When you walk out of that door, there will be no more us, we're done"

She pursed her lips feeling a tear drop on her cheek, then after a moment, continued walking towards where her car keys were. She picked up a jacket and left through the front door.

Jungkook covered his face with both his hands after hearing the door lock. He leaned back on the couch and quietly let his heartbreak consume him.

There's two people in a relationship and it relies on both of them to work. Jungkook wonders what went wrong for her to fall out of love, he's sure nothing about himself changed, he still tried to be just as invested and present, so what exactly happened.

Jungkook knows he won't get any of the answers he was seeking, not now, probably not ever. He uncovered his face and let his eyes fall on the pack of cigarettes on the table. It was night, and he'd already smoked enough that day, but at that moment he honestly didn't care at all, he just wanted to lighten up his mind.

The sound of his phone's notifications brought him out of his solitude as he was standing at the balcony, and made him wipe the tears on his waterline he was trying so hard to contain.

Chim: 3 new messages   just now
The Boys: 153 new messages
Taetae: 23 new messages
RM: missed call

He looked at the numbers and sighed. He's been ignoring everyone for days and he wasn't exactly in the mood to catch up with them tonight. He just locked his phone again and decided he would rather be in his bed at that moment, forcing himself to sleep his feelings off.

A few sad songs later, he received a new notification. He was sure it wasn't his ex-girlfriend since she clearly expressed what she thought about the situation, and everyone else wasn't nearly as relevant that night.

Chim sent you a voice message

Jimin? He thought as he read the name. He was not trying to speak to anybody but he let himself wonder if it was some sort of emergency, or if the other needed something from him, he couldn't just turn a blind eye on it. Right?

'Jeon... It's been two weeks since I last saw you... I was wondering how things were since you're not answering any of my texts, or the group chat. I haven't heard anything from Tae either, so umm... How- how has it been with, you know, Lisa... Maybe I should've just texted haha, I'm pausing a lot'  the younger chuckled and Jungkook felt a small smile creep on his face.

'I just wanted to check on you. I realized you don't really share your problems with everyone, but since you did with me I just felt like I needed to... What are you doing, giving me responsibilities like these out of nowhere' Jimin clicked his tongue.

"Brat" Jungkook muttered as he listened, moving on to the second voice message.

'Hope you won't ignore these if you see them... I don't wanna sound weird but, I'm just saying, share whatever you want with me like you did before. I'm here for you dude'  he finished and Jungkook just stared at the chatbox.

He put his screen down on the bed, drowning the room into darkness as he replayed the second recording. Would he have gone to see him if he was in town? He wasn't sure, but he will admit that he missed being around the younger.

Jungkook was never someone to share everything he felt and thought, he was quite reserved and liked to keep his opinions personal. He generally dealt with his issues alone and only ever sought anyone if he was extremely lonely or felt like he couldn't do otherwise.

In Jimin's case, he was very comfortable with him because he was the new friend of the group, he didn't know too much about him, how he used to be or how is now. Nonetheless, they still managed to get close enough for them to hang out randomly and just spend time together without any plans in mind. Jungkook appreciated that as it took away the pressure of not having any excuse to see him.

He would have gone to see him if he was in town.

Jeon009
Can I call you

Chim
Ofc

Jungkook's thumb hovered over the phone icon on the screen and froze right there. What would he talk about, the breakup? He wasn't in the mood to mention it or even think about it. School? He's sure Jimin wouldn't want to talk about something so boring. He was second guessing his decision and was about to let it go when his screen layout changed.

"Jeon!"

"I thought I was calling you, not the other way around"

"You were gonna change your mind about calling me" Jimin said and he raised an eyebrow at the accurate guess.

"No, I was doing something"

"You're a bad liar when you smoke" he chuckled and Jungkook this time knit his eyebrows, looking around the area to see if anybody was there. How would he know he even smoked.

"That is a weird observation, do I even want know how you got it? How did you know I smoked even" he asked, actually curious.

"Your voice dumbass, I have a good ear and can recognize your pitch when it goes lower. I mean, the first time I actually talked to you, you had just come back from a smoke break... For the lying part, I just said that to make my point, but it looks like I was quite right" he explained and Jungkook rolled his eyes.

"That doesn't even make sense" he chuckled.

"I remember your voice from then very clearly because it was scarily deep man, it marked me especially since I have the voice of a girl" he complained and Jungkook hummed, the vibrations resonating right into the other's ears.

"You weirded me out that day, calling Jin Namjoon and acting so... boring. I didn't think you were gonna last long in our group to be honest"

"What you said is extremely vexing but Imma let it go, you know why? Cause I do take the blame for giving you that one nickname" he said.

"I'm not even uptight"

"You are, you remember the other day when we were all-..." Jimin started talking about some memory he has of him but the taller was not in the mood to reminisce, he listened without letting the words register, his mind too busy trying to forget his own memories.

"We broke up" he suddenly announced. He said he didn't want to talk about it but he just needed to let it out. For some reason he wanted the younger to know what he's going through.

"I'm sorry" Jimin simply said, his voice expressing compassion.

"Just thought you should know, in case I go missing in action again" he explained, looking down at the cars parked by the building.

"You won't do that" Jimin asserted.

"I did it so many times already, how can you be sure"

"I don't know about the long term, you'll need your time to heal as well, but I know you won't ghost us a lot this weekend because we're all partying" Jimin replied and Jungkook scoffed.

"I'm not sure that's what I need right now"

"That's exactly what you need right now"

"How do you know"

"I want it to be" Jimin simply said.

"You miss drinking with me?" Jungkook smirked.

"Only if you unleash the party animal I've been seeing flashes of"

"I've got nothing to lose"

"You're smoking at night? What happened to the lollipops?" he asked and Jungkook clicked his tongue.

"I needed it"

"I'm pretty sure if you'd called me before, you wouldn't need it anymore" Jimin said, probably smiling from how his voice sounded.

"Are you comparing yourself to a tobacco stick"

"You know what I mean" Jimin scoffed and he looked up.

"If I didn't smoke I wouldn't have called you"

"You just think that. If you'd had a lollipop instead, you would've been so bored sucking on it that you'd decide to call me to pass time" he pointed out and Jungkook nodded.

"Maybe"

"I'm keeping my promise you know, not smoking when you're not there" he said.

"Why would you in the first place"

"We were at a party last week, the guys were rotating a blunt" he said and Jungkook hummed again, not thinking twice before saying a reply.

"Good boy"
