18. Eighteen

Jimin smiled as he knocked on the glass before getting inside the car. He sat on the passenger seat and sighed at the warmth of the heater. He blew on his hands and finally decided to turn and look at the older boy.

"H- " He realized he was still wearing the hood of his jacket. The fur on the edge was blocking his view, so he quickly swatted it away. "Hi" he smiled again, this time bright enough that his eyes turned into thin lines.

The older felt a smile of his own creep on his face at the boy's expression and shook his head. His cheeks were red from the cold and his jacket was almost eating him up.

"You look so small right now" he chuckled, starting to drive out of the street "I can't even be mad at you" he added playfully.

The other raised an eyebrow as he pulled the seatbelt around himself "What is there to be mad about?" he asked and the other turned to look at him since they were at a red light.

"Oh yeah, it's not like you dragged me out of my comfy spot to come pick you up or anything" he replied and Jimin noticed that Jungkook was taking the way back to his house. He hesitated for a moment but he really didn't want to go back home just yet.

"Actually Jeon... I have a favor to ask" he started and the other hummed "Can we go to like... A cafe or your place?" he tried, but unfortunately the taller just shook his head "Not really in the mood to hang sorry".

"..Or anywhere else actually.. I don't wanna go back home" he pleaded, his smile going from polite to uncomfortable. Jungkook noticed the sudden shift in moods, it was so sudden that he had to slow down the car a bit and focus on the other.

"Why what's up?" he asked, taking a random right turn and changing itineraries.

"Fought with my mom" he simply said, turning the volume of the music up. He tried to act as if he was really into the song, as if what happened at home was no big deal.

Jungkook was just driving around the unknown neighbourhood by that time, but he felt some weird vibes from Jimin. It wasn't like always, the boy wasn't messing' around and roasting him at every occasion like he would normally do.

"Is everything cool man?" he asked and Jimin nodded.

"Y-eah" Jimin's voice cracked and he just kept silent, not wanting to pry too much. A few minutes later, the boy's expression started turning into an angry looking one.

"Alright" he said and made a U turn, talking Jimin by surprise. They were driving out of town, until the taller went into a track road and kept driving for a few more minutes before parking at a spot under a tree.

"Where are we?" Jimin asked curiously. They were in the middle of nowhere, the only things surrounding them are small hills and a few trees.

"Get out" the other replied, making him wonder if he pissed him off or something "Are we good? You're still mad at me?" Jimin asked quietly and hoped it wasn't the case because he really didn't need more drama.

"Wear your hood, you'll get sick" Jungkook said when they got out of the car, and walked ahead. Jimin followed, going around one of the hills and through the bushes after it.

"It's here..." Jimin simply said, in awe of what he was seeing. There were standing on a cliff, not a very high one, but a cliff still. There was a little platform with an arched roof, at the very edge of the flat ground they were on. He walked towards it and found a folding chair and bag on it "Is this yours?" Jimin asked.

"Yeah, I keep them here when I come home for a few days, it saves me the work. No one ever wanders here anyway" he replied.

Jimin looked over the fence of the platform, the height wasn't bad it was probably under 10 meters worth, but it was enough to keep the trees from hiding the extensive view of the rest of the forest.

"You didn't have to bring me here, I know you didn't want anyone to find out about it" Jimin said and the other shrugged.

"It's okay you're obviously having issues, and I can't comfort people for my life so I'll let the scenery do it" he apologized and sat on the only chair in the place.

"Where am I gonna sit?" Jimin asked "Sorry I don't really expect guests very often.. You can sit on the bag though" Jungkook gave him the big bag where he kept a blanket, so it was thick enough not to be uncomfortable.

"How do you know about this place?" he asked and the other hummed in consideration, thinking back to the first time he heard about it "My dad used to tell me there was a park here, you know, the kind where people walk on bridges and ropes between trees... That type of stuff" he said and reached over to fix Jimin's hood.

"I decided to check it out one day and see if it was still there, turns out it wasn't, and I'm actually glad about that" he continued. Jimin looked around and could notice a few things left from the park, like little platforms around some of the big trees. He guesses that's where the attractions were attached.

"What if I steal your spot?" Jimin asked and the other shook his head "You can't come here unless someone takes you" he replied.

"And when I get a car?"

"I guess I'll just have to trust that you won't"

"You must trust me a whole lot then"

"Hope it'll be worth it"

"Don't be dramatic"

"I call it being serious"

"So dramatic... Just put us some music" Jimin chuckled. The other decided to play a chill music playlist on spotify, not sure what it was going to suggest. The sky was now a dark blue, so Jimin decided to use his phone's flashlight to brighten up the space.

The snow was still falling, although much less than before, and both young men were just silent, wandering in their own thoughts as the music played.

Nothing feels better than this
Nothing feels better

"My father passed away last March" Jimin broke the silence.

Jungkook took a second to react as he was completely lost in the lyrics of the song. When he did, he looked over at the younger who was still relishing in the scenery of forest trees covered in white.

He stayed silent, really not sure what to do after Jimin dropped a bomb like that on him. He waited for a few seconds, trying to figure out if he was supposed to say anything or not yet.

"This will be my first Christmas without him" he added "It's my favorite holiday and it's gonna be so different, so empty" he continued. At this point Jungkook just listened and rested his gaze in the the yellow post lights far down in the forest where a few houses were.

"I couldn't bear the thought so I lashed out on my mom, very selfishly so, almost making her feel like she was moving on too fast or something" Jimin said and looked down at his cold hands, sliding them under his thighs and finally turning to the older boy.

The fur in his hood yet again blocking his vision and only allowing him to see up to the other's abdomen, he removed it and finally got to see what facial expressions the other was sporting.

Jungkook wasn't looking at him, in fact he had his face up to where he could see the sky, expression quite straight and no reaction whatsoever.

"First of all, I'm sorry for your loss" he started, meeting eyes with the orange-haired. He took his hands out of his pockets and sighed, getting out of his chair and crouching by Jimin, pulling his hood over his head again, only to get his hands swatted away.

"I will not be held responsible for getting you sick" he said and the other shrugged.

"I couldn't see you with it on"

"At least cover you ears- man- stop making me act like a mom I'm bad at this stuff" Jungkook complained and he chuckled.

"That's funny" he replied. Jungkook rested both his knees on the floor to keep steady. Jimin noticed how unsure the elder was and rolled his eyes.

"It's all good Jeon, I kinda know how you are by now... You don't gotta say anything back, sorry if I killed the vib-"

"Do the boys know?" he interrupted, running a hand through his dark hair.

"No" Jimin replied, noticing the crown tattoo on his index finger and wondering what it was for.

"I see"

They stayed silent for a minute, and with the song switch, it felt even more quiet. It was now The Neighborhood's Afraid playing and Jungkook knew that song too well.

When I wake up I'm afraid,
Somebody else might take my place

"I was adopted" Jungkook chose to break the silence this time. He thought this conversation was them dropping bombs so Jungkook went straight for it.

"Really?" Jimin asked and he nodded, completely sitting on the ground now with only his coat keeping off the cold. Jimin watched him fix his position and thought it would be better to sit on the blanket instead.

"I hope you'll clean this after we leave" The taller said when he was unfolding the warm fabric and he nodded.

"I know you're cold Jeon, you don't have to act tough" Jimin called him out and he nodded. He took the blanket, using it so that they could sit on it and have it cover their legs as well.

"Do you have siblings?" Jimin asked.

"No I don't... I'm still Tae's cousin though, you know" Jungkook said and Jimin nodded firmly.

"Of course you are, you belong with your family" Jimin tried to comfort him as to the fact that he was adopted and he shook his head.

"No I mean literally. My real parents both died in an accident a year after I was born. My real mom had two sisters, Tae's mom and my adoptive mom, I was left home with them when it happened" he explained and Jimin made a shallow 'oh' sound.

"My mom's sister and her husband adopted me, and I was lucky to be raised with such loving parents who kept the memory of my real ones alive, describing how they were and telling me stories about them" he nodded to himself.

"I'm sorry for your loss as well"

"What I'm saying is, I understand where you came from... About what happened with your mom today" Jungkook awkwardly staggered. He was not the type to speak about such topics, he generally kept these feelings to himself and never really was in a situation to comfort anyone about them until now.

Jimin hummed, thoughtful yet again. "I don't know how to feel, should I keep this all to myself, should I talk about it knowing it will hurt my mother... "

"You can say everything here instead of letting it out to your mother, if you know it's gonna make her feel bad" Jungkook suggested, even though he knows the atmosphere is quite tense because of his own discomfort.

Jimin chuckled "I wouldn't want to bore you with my issues Jeon... We both know you'd never talk to me about yours for the same reason" he pointed out.

"You know... I'm just offering to help save your relationship with your mom before a Christmas fiasco" he shrugged and Jimin scoffed.

"There won't be any Christmas fiasco anyway" Jimin muttered.

Jungkook decided not to pry even more. He knew from experience that pushing someone to talk about something deeply rooted within them doesn't always lead to a good outcome, and if Jimin wanted to get away from his family problems by coming here, he wasn't gonna make him dive right back into them.

He just thought it was a good idea to throw a helping arm his way, he'll take it if he wants to.

"Don't make me regret this... Where do I start" Jimin spoke with a sigh.
