Chapter 46 - False Innocence
2:30 p.m.
My phone chimed in my pocket. I pulled it out. Maverick was calling.
"Hello?" I said into the receiver.
"Hey, how are you?" Maverick asked. I can tell he was grinning on the other line.
"I'm fine. What's up?"
"Well, I was calling you to ask by any chance, have you seen Alice anywhere? I haven't seen her all day."
I gulped. Anonymous probably took her. No surprise there. "Uh, n-no. Where does she usually go?"
"Well, she goes to her friend Maria's house, but she would've told me."
"That's weird. How about we check anyway? We can pick you up." I offered.
"If that's okay,"
"Of course! Uh, I'll be there."
"Alright, thank you. Bye." Then, I hung up.
I walked over to Jimmy. "Alice is missing."
"Come again?" Jimmy said, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Mave has no idea where she is. She didn't leave a message, or anything. I'm gonna go help him find her, wanna come?"
"Uh, yeah."

Jimmy and I got to Maverick's house, and I went up to his door, and knocked. He opened immediately.
Maverick looked me up and down, and smiled.
"Hey, thanks for coming." Maverick said with a warm smile.
"No problem. Come on." I gestured him to the car. Maverick climbed in the back seat, and he gave us directions to Maria's house.
When we got to Maria's house, we put the car in park, and knocked on the door. The door opened, and I saw a girl with frizzy dirty-blonde hair, and dark brown eyes. She looked at us all, and grimaced.
"What are you doing here, Maverick?" Maria asked, looking disgusted.
"Um, w-we were wondering if Alice was here?" Maverick stammered, his cheek twitching.
"No, she's not." Maria's gaze turned to me and Jimmy. "Who are them?"
"Jimmy and Malina. You don't know them? They're on Saturday Night L-"
"Yeah, yeah. I don't care. They're probably not funny anyway." Maria turned, and almost closed the door. I pushed the door open again.
"Excuse me! Don't be so arrogant! We just want to know if Alice is with you." I said, an attitude forming in my voice.
"I already answered your question, sweetie. Goodbye!" Maria slammed the door. I turned around with a shocked look on my face.
"Well, damn!" I said with wide eyes. "Maverick, why didn't you tell me she acts like she's on her period?"
"She's never acted like that before..." Maverick trailed off.
"Weird," Jimmy said.
"Where else would she be, Mave?" I asked, throwing my dark brown hair over my shoulder.
"Nowhere else. That's pretty much where she goes and that's it most days." Maverick frowned, and bit his lip. He looked so pained. "You guys can go. I'll call you if I think of anything else."
"Alright, we'll drive you home." Jimmy said, pulling out his car keys from his pocket.
We walked back out to the car, and drove Maverick home.

When we walked into the apartment, I took a deep breath. It's been a long day. I was still shocked that Alice was nowhere to be found.
"Hey, do you want to take a walk with me? I just need to relieve some stress." I asked Jimmy, leaning against the door.
"Sure."
We walked out, and up and down the sidewalk that wounded around the apartment building.
"What a gorgeous night." I looked up at the bright stars in the dark blue sky. The lights of the building made the days never end.
"Tell me about it," Jimmy looked up, too. The stars flickered.
Then, we heard someone scream, "Help!"
"That sounded a lot like..."
"...Alice." I finished Jimmy's sentence.
"Alice!" I screamed. The shrieking kept up, and we were able to track the screaming to where she was.
We almost got to Alice, until a silhouette popped up in front of us. I yelped.
"Guys, it's just me. I heard the screaming too." It was Maverick. I sighed in relief.
We all ran to Alice, and found her sitting against a tree stump, her legs against her chest.
"Alice! Oh my god! Where were you?" I kneeled beside Alice. She had a petrified expression on her face.
"J-Jimmy..." Alice murmured.
"What? What about Jimmy?"
"H-He kidnapped me." Alice stammered. My jaw dropped, and I turned around.
"You kidnapped her?" I asked, my fists trembling with anger.
Jimmy held up his hands defensively. "I'm just as surprised as you are! I didn't do anything!" Jimmy said, his eyes wide.
I laughed, and put my hand on the back of my head. "Wow."
"Malina, I didn't do this!"
"Jimmy...who else did it?" Maverick asked, crossing his arms.
Jimmy rolled his eyes, and ignored him.
"Why would Alice lie about that?" I couldn't believe what was happening right now. Jimmy grabbed my hand, but I yanked it away.
"I can't believe you." I said, a tear rolling down my cheek. I ran away, Alice and Maverick following me.
I stopped, and collapsed to my knees. Maverick kneeled down, and rubbed my back. "Malina..." He started. "I'm so sorry."
"It's not your fault." I assured him, putting my head in my hands. "I'm not even sad. Jimmy was working with Anonymous once, and it was for a good cause. Now I know that he's probably the main Anonymous."
"Do you wanna come stay with me?" Maverick offered. I looked up, and smiled.
"Yeah, thanks."

We got to Maverick's house, and I started to tear up again. Stop, Malina. Don't put this all on yourself.
I bit my lip, fighting the urge to cry.
"Hey, I'm gonna go to Maria's house for a bit. Need anything while I'm out, Lina?" Alice said, rubbing my back.
"No, I'm fine. Thank you, though." I said, wiping away my tears.
Alice nodded in understanding, and walked out.
Maverick sat next to me. "Need anything? A drink? Food?"
"No thanks, I kind of lost my appetite." Which was the truth.
Maverick put his hand on my leg. "I'm really, really sorry. I'll take care of you as long as you need." I blushed. I looked up, and I looked him in the eyes. I bit my lip, and my lips crashed into his.
"I've been waiting so long to do this." Maverick said after we let go. I chuckled, and kissed him once more.
