Chapter 35 - Taking This One to the Grave
"Did this person just dig Emilie out of her grave?" I asked, really confused.
"Do you want to check her grave?" Jimmy asked.
"Yeah, probably."
We both raced out of Jimmy's apartment, and to my car.
We hopped into my car, and drove to St. Rosalie Johns Cemetery.
When we got there, we searched through the rows until we found the grave stone that said:
Emilie Marie Alderman
August 17, 1975 - March 4, 1999
A daughter, sister, and friend.
My eyes started to well up. I missed her so much.
When I looked down, her grave was dug, as if someone had dug down to her decaying body.
Jimmy and I exchanged a nervous look. I slowly climbed down the hole.
My eyes adjusted to the dark, and I saw a coffin. It was really eerie to be down here.
"You okay?" Jimmy said, his voice echoing.
"Yeah." I said back. I looked at the coffin again, and opened it.
At first, I thought it was empty. But then I saw a silhouette of a body. Then, I realized who it was.
It was my mom.
I covered my mouth with my hands, and wailed. I heard footsteps come behind me, and put its hand on my back.
"What's going on?" It was Jimmy who was behind me. I had no strength of answering for myself, so Jimmy looked in the coffin.
"Oh. My. God." Jimmy said, his eyes wide.
My legs were up against my chest, and my head was in my hands. Jimmy wrapped his arms around me, trying to comfort me.
I was sobbing so hard I could barely catch my breath. I'm almost positive Anonymous is doing all of this.
What did Anonymous want from us?
Then, me and Jimmy's phone buzzed in unison. I clicked read.
Figured you guys would check the grave and see who was in there. Could you guys be in the grave next? You'll never see me coming.
I took a nervous sigh, and looked at Jimmy.
"We should go home, we'll tell the police about it when we get there." Jimmy suggested. We stood up, and walked back to the car.
When we got to the apartment, I called 911.
"911, what's your emergency?" The voice on the other line said.
"Um..." I had no idea how to word this. "Someone got into my boyfriend's apartment, a friend of ours's body appeared in our apartment. We don't know who put it there, but there's someone else in her grave now."
"Oh, um..." I wasn't surprised of how flustered she sounded. I didn't want to explain who it might be right now. "Where are you located?"
I told her the name of Jimmy's apartment, and she said that they will send ambulances right away.
I sat down on the couch next to Jimmy, and tried to fight the urge to sob.
"Malina, I'm so sorry." Jimmy said, his voice getting choked up.
"Why are you sorry?" I asked. "It's not your fault."
"I know, but...you just saw your mother in your best friend's grave. That's terrible."
It was hard to see, for sure.
There was a knock at the door. That must be the paramedics. I walked up to the door, and opened it to two male paramedics.
The blonde one's name tag said Shepard. The blue-black haired one's name tag said Carter.
"Come in." I said, stepping aside so they could come in.
"So, you have a...dead body in here?" Dr. Shepard grimaced when he said dead body.
"Yeah. Someone put it in here. We don't know who did." Which was sort've true. We didn't know who anonymous was.
I gestured them into me and Jimmy's room to Emilie's lifeless body.
They both kneeled down next to Emilie's body, and checked her pulse.
"Guys," I said, trying to get their attention. They didn't have to check her pulse, she was obviously dead.
"Guys!" I said a bit louder.
"GUYS!" I practically yelled. They both looked up at me. "You don't have to check her pulse, she's obviously dead."
Dr. Carter opened his mouth to talk, but closed it and stood up.
"So...you don't have any idea who put this body here?" Dr. Carter asked. I shook my head.
"Someone else is in her grave." My eyes welled up. Don't cry, Malina.
The two paramedics brought Emilie to the ambulance, and drove off.
Jimmy wrapped his arm around me. He always knew how to make me feel better.
Then, my phone buzzed. I looked at the Caller I.D. It was Lorne.
"Hello?" I said into the receiver.
"Hi Malina! Nice to talk to you again. So, Jay Leno told me to ask you if he could interview you. Would that be okay? The Tonight Show is all the way in California." Wait, did Lorne say that Jay Leno wants to interview me? Jay Leno?
"Yeah, wow, that's awesome! I've been watching Jay's show for so long. When?"
"Next Monday." Lorne replied. Today is Monday, so exactly one week from now. "Jay said that he will pay for your flight ticket. And he knows about you and Jimmy, and it's okay with him if he wants to tag along. Your plane leaves on Saturday."
I turned to Jimmy, smiling from ear to ear. Jimmy smirked, and mouthed what?
"Okay, thank you so much. Talk to you later."
"Alright, bye Malina."
Then, I hung up. I turned to Jimmy, and jumped up and down.
"What?" Jimmy said enthusiastically.
"Jay Leno wants to interview me! Jay Leno! He paid for my flight ticket, and he said you can come too! We're going to California, baby!" Jimmy's smile grew bigger and bigger. We both jumped around the room like little kids. And for the first time in forever, I forgot about Anonymous. We didn't have to worry about all the troubles that were coming for us for a couple of days.
