Chapter 27 - Series of Unfortunate Events
After a couple of hours full of sobs and guilt, my phone rang. I looked at the number. It wasn't a number I recognized, but I hit answer anyway.
"H-hello?" I stammered.
"Hey Lina! So, uh, I'm calling from the station. I'm allowed to go on temporary bail until my trial. But, I'm not allowed to leave my house, I have a tracking device on." Jimmy explained. My jaw dropped in fury.
"A tracking device? Why can't they get through their head that-"
"Hey, at least I get to come home." Jimmy said, trying to perk me up a little. Well, that was a bright side. A big one.
"Okay, I'll pick you up."
"Okay, love you, bye."
"Bye," I hung up the phone, and looked at Emilie with a warm smile.
"So, Jimmy's on temporary bail." I said.
"That's awesome." Emilie said not as enthusiastically as I thought.
"I'm going to pick him up from the station. Wanna come?"
"Sure," Emilie replied.
We walked out to the car, and left.
When we got to the station, Jimmy was standing right at the front door, a smirk on his face.
I walked up to him, and gave him a big hug.
"Ready?" Jimmy asked.
"Hold on, I have one question to ask the front desk." I walked up to the front desk. There was a different police officer there. I looked at her name tag. It said M. Carrie.
"Hi, I have a question." I said. "There was a person that may have called you about James Fallon recently. Do you think you could find the identity of that person?"
"Sorry, calls are strictly anonymous." Officer Carrie said. Her dirty blonde hair was in a messy bun, and she looked distracted on her computer.
"Please, it's really important. We're in danger, and we need to know who's ratting Jim-James Fallon out."
Officer Carrie grunted in frustration, and clicked on her computer. I was starting to shake, I was scared of who it was going to be.
After five minutes, Officer Carrie looked back at me.
"The person who called was Emilie Alderman, is that enough for ya?" Officer Carrie said sharply. Jimmy and I exchanged a shocked and furious look. Emilie.
I looked back at Emilie, who was standing outside, staring at something.
I gave her a nasty look, and attempted to go over to her and give her what she deserves. I started to walk out the door, but Jimmy stopped me.
"Malina! Don't! Just let it go!" Jimmy yelled, trying to grab me. There was no way in hell I was going to let it go. I stormed out of the door, and walked over to Emilie.
I grabbed Emilie's shoulders, and pushed her back into the brick wall.
"If you ever dare to touch me or Jimmy ever again, you're dead!" I said angrily. My face was blazing red from fury.
"W-what?! What are you talking about?" Emilie said in a monotone.
"Oh, don't act all innocent, bitch. I know what you did, and I sure as hell am not putting up with it." I clenched my fists. I wanted to just punch her in the face so bad.
"I really have no idea what you're talking ab-" I smacked that bitch across the face before she could finish. Her face stayed sideways, her mouth the shape of an O.
"Malina!" Jimmy grabbed my arm, and pulled me back. "Don't get yourself hurt, please."
"I'm not!" I snapped. I backed away from Emilie, who had a grin on that I was attempted to smack off.
So what do we do, just leave Emilie on the street?
Jimmy didn't seem pissed off at all, which surprised me. I felt like I was the bad guy here, and Jimmy was defending Emilie.
"Emilie, here," Jimmy handed her money. "Check in a hotel. We don't need you in my apartment anymore."
Emilie shot me and Jimmy a nasty look, and walked away.
Once we couldn't see Emilie, me and Jimmy got into the car, and drove back to his apartment.
I started to tear up on the car ride home, but I didn't want to make it obvious. Emilie made me look like a monster, and it caused Jimmy to defend Emilie. A little bit, at least.
When we got to the apartment, I didn't say a word to Jimmy at all. But when we got inside, I needed to say something.
"Jimmy, I should go." A tear started to roll down my cheek. Jimmy's eyes crinkled, and he took a couple steps toward me.
"What do you mean?" Jimmy asked.
"Jimmy, I'm not going to put you through this hell that we're going through. Everything that is happening seems to have something to do with my life, and I can't let you live that way. You'd be better off without me. I mean, you could finally live at peace."
Jimmy's eyes started to well up with tears. "No, Malina, please. Don't go. I can't live without you, you're my whole world! Just, please don't go!" Jimmy pleaded.
"Me leaving will turn out better for you than you think. Everywhere I go, a new series of unfortunate events occur. And, everything that should be my problem is becoming yours. This is for the better, Jimmy. Please, just let me go." I started to sob uncontrollably. I took off my wedding ring, and put it in Jimmy's hand. I paused for a moment, and started for the door.
Jimmy grabbed my hand. "No, please. Stay. No matter what kind of hell happens next, I don't care as long as we stick together."
I bit my lip, trying to fight the urge to cry. Without a word, I walked out the door.
I raced out the apartment, trying to get out before Jimmy catches me. I could walk to a hotel nearby for now, hopefully Emilie won't be there. But for now, that didn't matter. All that mattered was that Jimmy could finally live at peace. He was better off without me.
