Chapter 2 - That Was a Close One

2 weeks later

This was the time when I started to really get nervous. They said they would call or email me within two weeks if I got in. I kept pacing around my house, shaking while waiting for them to tell me. I was picking at the skin of my fingers, which is a bad habit I do when I get nervous.

I also haven't gotten a call nor text from that guy...Jimmy I met at the audition.

I kept pacing around, picking at the skin of my index finger, until my phone buzzed on my kitchen table. I picked it up, and noticed Jimmy was calling. I hit answer.

Me: Hello?

Jimmy: Hey! This is Malina, right?

Me: Yup.

Jimmy: Alright, cool. Did you hear from SNL yet?

Me: Nope. I'm a nervous wreck about it, though. Did you?

Jimmy: Yeah, I got it.

Me: Oh! Oh my god, Jimmy! Congratulations!

Jimmy: Yeah, they emailed me at the crack of dawn.

It was pretty silent for a few minutes.

Jimmy: Do you want to grab lunch or something?

Me: Yeah, sure.

Jimmy: Too fast?

Me: No! You're okay. Where?

Jimmy: Starbucks.

Me: Wow. You're such a girl.

Jimmy: Thanks! You're so sweet.

Me: Alright. I'll be there.

Jimmy: Alright!

I hung up, and grabbed my keys from inside my bag. I stood still for a moment, and sighed.

When I arrived, I saw Jimmy sitting at one of the outside tables. I walked up to him. He noticed me, and his eyes lit up. "Hey," He said with a smirk, looking me in the eyes. I didn't stare at him in the eyes back, I thought that might be a little too much of a couple-stroke.

"Hi," I said as I sat down. I leaned my head in my left hand.

"What are you up to?" Jimmy asked. His brown eyes were sparkling from the sun.

"Not much. Just really freaking nervous. I doubt I'll get in, but it was worth a try," I said.

Jimmy raised an eyebrow, "I'm sure you'll get in. You seem like the comedy type of girl," I put on a little smile. We sat in silence for a few minutes. It felt like we were constantly sitting in silence, without a word to speak. My phone started buzzing. I got out my phone and looked at the Caller I.D.

"Oh my god," I whispered. Jimmy's eyes widened,

"SNL?" He asked. I stared at my phone screen for a few seconds. "Yeah. Excuse me for a moment," I said. I stood up and answered it.

"Hello?" I asked. I started pacing around really quickly.

"Hi. Is this Malina McCullough?" A familiar voice asked. It was Lorne. Oh my god.

"Yes," I said. My heart started skipping rapidly.

"Okay. We wanted to let you know that you are a cast member of Saturday Night Live!" Lorne said. My eyes widened. I turned to Jimmy. I think he could tell I got in by the big smile on his face. He stood up, and stood beside me. "Oh my god! This is a dream come true! Thank you!" I squealed.

"Have a good day!" Lorne said, then hung up.

"Well?" Jimmy asked.

I put on a big smile, "I got it!" I squeaked. His smile got even bigger, and ran to him and gave him a tight hug. "Oh my god Jimmy. Wow. This is..what just happened?" I said with a laugh. I lifted my head up, and our faces were close together. Maybe a little too close...

I ran my tongue around the inside of my mouth. Kiss him. I thought. No, I couldn't. I have to. No, I can't.

Jimmy's face came closer to mine. I had to kiss him, but I had a feeling that kissing someone who I only saw two times felt...wrong. I pushed out of his arms awkwardly. "I have to run. I have..something," I said, picking up my purse from the chair.

"Yeah. Me too," Jimmy said. I could tell he was lying. "Congratulations on getting into SNL, by the way." Jimmy said.

I looked back at him and smiled, "You too," Once I turned around, my smile faded. I felt bad because I just bailed out on him.
