Chapter 2: Leaving
I was nearly ready to go. Claire still wasn't entirely on board with this but, she knew it was the best choice.
Before I boarded the ship she stopped me.
She took off my mask. I smiled at her. She took a deep breath and hugged me. I hugged back.
"I will be back soon my darling." I said.
"I know. I want to give you something before you leave." She said.
I let her go and she gave me a rose barrette. I put it in my hair and she smiled with tears in her eyes.
"I will see you when you return." She said, wiping away her tears.
I kissed her, put my mask on, and got into the ship.
Once I get there, I have been informed that an engineer will help me.
I usually don't need help but, I suppose it will be nice to not be completely alone.
As I controlled the ship, I noticed just how long it will take to get there.
Two weeks.
...
Two weeks.
Why did he buy this planet again? If it is that close to the sun clearly it would die eventually. Though I suppose five billion years is a long time. Well, for earthlings anyway.
They don't know my race exists so I may have to come up with a disguise to avoid anarchy.
I looked down. This dress simply will not do for them. I look like a royal.
From what I understand, where I am landing they do not have a monarchy. A democracy.
I looked at earth clothing. It is simple but I like they styling of some. I came up with a wardrobe and noticed I'd have to get rid of the mask.
Or at least make it match my face.
I do not feel like explaining how I lost my eye or got my scars. It makes Claire cry.
I grew more bored with each passing day. The beauty of space now made me anxious knowing Claire was further from me.
She can protect herself but Id like to be there if something goes wrong.
I sighed as I carefully took the rose out of my hair and examined it. A red rose with a green leaf. The thorns and stem cut, a symbol of romance.
The rose was always her favorite flower. They remind me of her. I find it to be the only good thing imported from Earth.
I arrived on the planet at sunrise. Two people greeted me.
The first, a man with messy blond hair, a tan suit, and red tie. He was a demon. Odd. How could a demon survive out of the planets core? Truly a mystery.
The next, a small girl with platinum white hair, black safety goggles, and a blue hoodie. She had a tag that said 'intern' on her chest.
I put the rose back in my hair, gathered my supplies, and exited the ship.
The girl ran up to me, bouncing with excitement.
"Hi! I'm Lilith! Are you Eve?" She asked.
"Lily." The man scowled.
She stood at attention and mockingly said.
'Lily'. I smiled. The girl reminds me of my sister.
"Greetings Eve. My name is Trevor, we welcome you to Earth." Treacle started, putting his hand in front of me.
I shook it and nearly crushed his hand bone.
"My apologies, Trevor. You demons are so fragile." I said.
He glared at me.
"D-demon?" Lilith asked.
"She is joking Lily. You will be staying with my intern and her roommate. Please, come up with a disguise. The public is not ready." Trevor said.
I nodded, went back to the ship, and turned to a disguise. I kept my mask. Nobody but Claire can see my face.
Lilith took me to her home. It was a nice house. Two stories, three rooms. They seem to be quite wealthy.
"Deia will be home soon! She's at law school." Lilith said.
"Ok. And what do you do 'Lilith'?" I asked, just to say something.
"Well, I'm an intern at NASA as you saw. I'm training to be an engineer!" She exclaimed.
She showed me the garage. It was messy with tools and parts everywhere.
"You really should keep your workspace more clean Lilith. You could be hurt in this." I pointed out.
She shrugged it off and got to building. I went back inside, to my room, and locked the door. I put up a picture of Claire and I. Technically a hologram but we call it a picture.
The room was smaller than ours but I honestly prefer it. Less room for noise and enemies to hide.
