Chapter Three: Chasing Waterfalls
The farther we walk the more the rocky terrain becomes visible. We climb down a few rocks until we are standing above a waterfall. It's a small waterfall, but large enough for us to jump in.
I take off my flip flops, letting my feet hit the cold slab of rock. The surface wet from the water droplets that fall where they may.
"What I want to show you is at the bottom-"
"OF THE OCEAN", I exclaim in horror.
"NO! Jesus you still think I'm going to kill you", she face palms.
"I literally know nothing about you!"
"Okay. 20 questions. You ask me anything you want, and after, you trust me and jump," she challenges.
I nod.
"Let's make this quick," she playfully glares making me giggle.
"What's your full name?"
"Vanessa Morgan Mziray."
"Where are you from?"
"Canada."
"Your zodiac?"
"Aries."
"Siblings?"
"Brother and sister."
"Favorite color?"
"I don't know blue?"
"How old are you?"
"26, 27 soon."
"Damn", i gasp.
"I know, i have a baby face," she pouts.
"Hmm, favorite song at the moment?"
"Act up, by city girls."
"single orrrr-"
"Yes i am single," she giggles.
"When are you leaving Hawaii?"
"Im not. I live here, for now at least."
"Wait what?"
"It's a long story... But keep asking me questions I suddenly like it," she smirks.
"Are you uh- do you like-"
I cant bring myself to ask her while looking into her eyes. So instead, my eyes fall onto my feet as I shift awkwardly in my stance.
"Girls? Yes, I love them actually", she tilts my head up so my eyes meet hers once again.
"Occupation?"
"What is this a job interview? Im a photographer", she chuckles.
"Favorite thing to do?"
"Drink wine and watch old movies."
"Favorite place you have ever been?"
"Right here."
"Pet peeves?"
"Questions that have no substance."
I roll my eyes at her as I try to stop myself from laughing.
"Pets?"
"A dog named Minnie", she swoons.
"Favorite food?"
"Cabbage. Are we done yet," she whines adorably.
Looking down at the water below, a small part in my brain begins to panic before I quickly come up with another question.
"You're afraid of heights aren't you," she smirks cockily.
Her and that damn smirk....
"UHHHH- That girl from earlier she like a good friend?"
"She's my best friend", she sighs impatiently.
"Ughhh i can't think of anymore questions", I pout in defeat.
Somewhere along the way my eyes wander off Vanessa for a split second, but when they find her, she is taking off her tank top leaving her in a black bralette.
"Dear God, I'm Gay."
"That's another thing I gathered from our initial meeting earlier," she chuckles.
"Oh my god- did i say that out loud? I-"
"Ya know, you might want to strip, unless you like wet jeans."
"My mind went two different places," i furrow my eyebrows.
"The water babe, you're getting in the water," she chuckles.
"OH! RIGHT- THE WATER!"
"Yes, now you are you gonna strip or am i gonna have to do it for you?"
"You wouldn't," I giggle.
"Wow, and after 20 questions I thought you knew better", she shakes her head with a soft smile.
She steps towards me, her hands lightly grasping the hem of my shirt.
I can feel the butterflies in the pit of my stomach swarming. Her knuckles graze my stomach as she lifts the article of clothing over my head.
Im too into my mind to feel self-conscious. I can't take my eyes off the way she carefully undresses me. Unbuckling the belt of my jeans, and unlatching the button. The way she is almost nervous yet anxious as she lowers the zipper of my jeans.
"You got it from here or?"
My mind is pulled back the present and I awkwardly remove my jeans, leaving me in my undergarments. Now, i feel a bit shy with all the skin im showing, although Vanessa is showing just as much.
We walk to the edge, standing side by side.
"Jump on three", she asks.
I simply nod, feeling nerves of a different cause.
"One... Two... Three!"
On three, I swallow my fears and let my feet push me over the edge, screaming steadily until my body drops into the cool water.
My eyes open, while under the blue, searching for Vanessa who was swimming to the surface. I do the same, until my nose reaches air. I gasp, catching my breath as Vanessa watches me, giggling as she floats, before splashing some water my way.
The droplets splash onto my face and I giggle as well before splashing at Vanessa cutely.
She laughs before doing under the water to swim behind the waterfall. I follow her before hoisting myself up onto the rock of the hidden cave.
As my eyes adjust and shock settles in as I realize where we are.
There is an air mattress and A small battery powered lamp. She had a stool and a foldable desk. A camera and a journal sit atop of it.
"You- you live here?"
"It's not much, I know but, its tax free living," she shrugs.
"I walk around looking at the vastness of the cave," finger tips grazing the cold walls.
"How do you get in and out of here everyday," I ask in amazement.
"There's a ladder".
I stop and look at her in disbelief.
"You're telling me i just jumped off a cliff for you and there was a ladder the whole time?!"
"What's the fun in climbing down a boring ladder," she shrugs.
I can't help but laugh at her question, the notion that she only did this to get me nearly naked looming in the back of my mind.
She tosses me a long T-shirt as she throws on some sweats and a T-shirt as well.
I pull the shirt over my head and sit down on the ledge of the cave.
"You hungry? I have some soup if you want. It's not very hot anymore even though I kept it in a thermos bit, it is edible", she goes on a mini-tangent.
I smile up at her and accept the soup, for one because she's really cute, and second I am like 4 seconds away from dying of starvation.
She sits beside me.
"So, im not gonna ask you 20 questions, but i would like to know more about you," she props up one leg, resting her arm on it mindlessly.
"Im an open book," I say as I take a sip of the soup. Not bad...
"Tell about your life at home. Where is home anyway?"
"Kentucky", I shrug.
"Seriously?"
"I know right," I chuckle.
"Now i see why you want to get out and explore so badly," she laughs.
"I mean, Kentucky isn't really a bad place, its just not the best. My town though is pretty sweet. It's small and it has this little dinner, where oddly enough gang member hang out."
"That sounds fucking cool!"
"It would be, if all the gang members didn't have grey hair," i giggle.
"So let me get this straight, you live in Kentucky with a cute diner and old gang members?"
"Yup."
"Sounds like a shitty daytime show," she laughs.
"Feels like it too," I laugh along.
"Seriously though, isn't there something more of value there? What about your friends?"
I can't help but snicker at the word "friends".
"I don't have friends..."
"What do you mean you don't have friends?! Everyone has friends!"
"I don't know who told you that, but im sorry to have to tell you this but... They lied."
"How is it you grew up there and have never made a friend?!"
"I don't even know".
"Who did you go to prom with then?"
"You seriously think I went to prom? That's cute," I giggle.
"You're dead ass telling me nobody even asked you to go to prom??"
"You're genuinely surprised and I don't get it," I quirk an eyebrow.
"I don't get how you don't see the problem here!"
"Me! I'm the problem-"
"Don't, do that!"
"Do what?"
"Don't blame yourself because other people couldn't see how great you are!"
My insecurities begin to seep through my emotions and my voice.
"Im nothing special and I would appreciate it if you wouldn't lie and tell me that I am...."
My sad eyes find her determines ones and within an instant, her index finger and thumb caress my chin and guide my lips to hers in one swift motion.
So many things run through my mind. A beautiful woman just became my first kiss, not only that, she doesn't know shes my first kiss, nor would she know because we literally just met this morning. And as much as my heart wants to kiss her back, i pull away to both of our dissatisfaction.
She looks at me for a moment the down to her lap. She's embarrassed...
"Im sorry I just- i have been wanting to do that for a while now- a while as in since I met you and-"
"Vanessa, why do i have this feeling that you are going to make me do some of the most irresponsible things i could ever do, in the next week of my life?"
"What-"
This time I let every inhibition fall away from my present mind, and kiss her. My kiss is quick but sweet. She stares at me in shock but then quickly connects our lips once more..
