34 | the ball
34 | the ball
It has been a week and no sign of the strange man that Klaus dreamed showed up. No sign.
It has been a dreadful week anyway. There were so many work to do. So many projects and there was barely any time to talk and relax. It was Saturday finally. And, tonight was the Masquerade Ball. Everyone was pretty excited for the ball.
My dress was a dark blue colour.
And some rumours were going around, spread by the seniors that when a couple accidentally while dancing stops under a mistletoe, they are meant to be. That is a silly superstition, don't you think? Why would anyone stop under it? They can just continue dancing right?
I have no idea why they even have mistletoe on a Masquerade ball. They say it's tradition. Whatever. The theme is winterbased anyway.
Right now, all of us were sitting in the park, doing our homework, to finish it quickly and then we can enjoy the day.
My project was to make a small living room and decorate it with the way I want. The best living room will get a prize.
It's kind of exciting.
Rebecca had done her project. She didn't reveal anything to me. I bet it's wonderful.
"Red or Green?" I whispered to myself.
"Green", Klaus whispered. "It is better with the black colour."
Klaus didn't have anything to do. He wanted to help me but I denied his help. I want to earn my marks by myself. But, he suggested some ideas anyway.
"Bonnie, what is cretinism?" Kol asked innocently.
"Will you refer to the book?"Bonnie glared at him annoyingly. He had been asking questions since morning.
"I don't know the page," he complained and sighed.
"I know that you know the page, you are just lazy," She complained and punched him on his left arm. He showed a pained expression but we all know it was nothing.
"I know," he said and winked. He then got the book and turned the pages to find the word.
They seemed like a good couple.
Elena has been moody lately and I have no idea why. I have been trying to ask her but there is always a distraction. I should go and check on her now.
"I need to go and get a book. I will be back soon," I said and rushed off to the dorm room.
I went inside and saw that Elena was fast asleep. I saw her face and got startled. It was red, her eyes were bulging and puffy, and there were crumpled tissues in the basket.
I gasped and Elena moved from the sudden sound. She woke up to look at me.
"Care..." her voice cracked and she sat up.
"You have been crying, something is going on, tell me now, before I tell everyone to come here," I said. Her eyes bulged out when I said that and she shook her head.
"No," she whispered. "Don't call them,"
"Then, spill," I said and she sighed.
I sat down on the floor while she sat on the bed. She came down and joined me on the floor, while drinking some water.
I waited patiently.
"Do you remember? When I got angry with Damon, at the house, before we came here..." she started and glanced at me, waiting for me to answer. "Yeah, I remember," I said, waiting for something big.
"Well, we....kind of...stopped everything, then," she said and looked away. "Stopped what?" I asked.
"We broke it off," she said and I was surprised that she didn't cry, Elena noticed it.
"I'm used to it, I have already cried a thousand times," she shrugged.
"Damon can be a jerk sometimes," I said. "Do you want to talk about it?" I asked. Elena hesitated. "I am sure you can both solve your problems and atleast talk to each other," I said and patted Elena on her head and ruffled her hair.
If Elena felt uncomfortable talking about the problem, then I shouldn't force her to spill anything. So I kept quiet and patted her hair while giving her an understanding smile.
Elena thought that it was very motherly of Caroline to do that.
"I am sorry for not telling earlier," she said. I shook my head.
"Nope, you needed your time," I said and grabbed her hand and pulled her with me.
"Where are we going?" She asked. "Down with the others," I said.
Panic filled her eyes. "Come on, they don't bite," I winked and she still seemed hesitant about it.
"You can tell them later about it, you don't need to tell them now, okay? Now come. Relax and Enjoy, then, we can go to the Masquerade ball together," I said and Elena froze.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I don't have a dress," she said and looked down.
"I bought one for you when we went shopping, I know you would need it," I said and went to my closet to reveal her purple mermaid dress.
"Oh, Care, it's beautiful," Elena said and hugged me. I returned the hug back.
"You are the best," she said. "I know, I know," I said and shrugged, teasing her. She laughed.
We both went down, not before Elena washed her face and got herself ready.
"Make sure the boys don't find out about this," I whispered to her and she gave me a knowing smile. I shrugged and hopped my way to my project and continued doing it. Elena sat down and everyone noticed her presence.
"Elena, where have you been all this while?" Kol asked and everyone's head snapped up to hear her answer.
"Nothing, I was doing some reasearch on my project," she said and gave me wink.
Bonnie frowned not believing what Elena said. Rebecca's and Katherine's expression showed the same thing. They all gave a look at each other. None of the boys noticed this anyway.
Dense boys.
Nathan moved and sat beside Elena, whispering something to her and she laughed.
All the girls noticed this and we smiled.
Well, well, well. What do we have here?

"Shall we!?" Klaus asked, showing his ever charming smile.
"We shall," I said, as we headed towards the ball. We could hear the music, the laughing and the chattering. It was exciting. I was wearing a dark blue dress and Klaus had a matching tie and vest. He had a black mask while I had white one, both were covering our eyes only.
Oh. Aren't we adorable? Yeah. I know.
All of our friends were already there. Klaus wanted to make a grand entrance so he said that we should go fashionably late.
We reached the place and many eyes turned towards us. I ignored them and so did Klaus. But, he seemed to be enjoying it. Anyway, we found our group and joined them. Bonnie excitedly came towards me, wearing a black mask, pulled me away from Klaus.
"Kol asked me," she said and then started panicking.
I saw Kol in the distance, drinking bourbon. He gave me smile and started staring at Bonnie. He had a Red mask on.
"You know, he is kind of sort of maybe staring at you," I teased and Bonnie shrieked.
"Calm down," I said. "It's just a normal thing, don't get panicked, enjoy your time with him, go, if you feel panicked all out of a sudden, just say that you feel unwell and go to the dorm room, okay?" I asked. She nodded and walked away. Kol followed her.
I smiled at them both and saw that Nathan was having a talk with Elena.
Everything is going well then.
Strong pair of hands wrapped around my waist and a whisper came, "Dance with me," he said.
And without hesitation, he dragged me to the dance floor, we started dancing. It was a slow dance. He lifted me up and I squealed. He twirled me around and we laughed. He made me stand on his foot and he kissed my forhead while dancing.
I felt goosebumps rush here and there. Butterflies roaming here and there. I opened my eyes and I melted into a puddle when I saw his blue blue eyes.
Suddenly, the music stopped and everyone froze. What's wrong? I gave a look at Klaus. He was as confused as I was.
The Spotlight came and stopped at us.
"Kiss," Someone shouted.
"What?" I whispered.
"Kiss, Kiss, Kiss," the chanting began and I was so confused when it suddenly hit me. I looked above and Klaus did the same. There it was. A mistletoe.
Oh.
I am sure I look like a red Goldfish right now. Klaus came closer to me and gave me a soft kiss. I melted into them and kissed him back.
Everyone cheered, some cat calling and wolf whistling. We broke off and the music continued to play.
"We are meant to be, love," he said and gave me a peck again. I blushed and laid my head on his shoulder while we continued dancing.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too," I whispered back.
It has been 30 minutes since the kiss. Now, we have all gathered and we were joking and having fun.
"Remember that time, when Kol kissed the furnitures," Rebecca said trying to control her laughter. Kol groaned.
"When? Tell me about it," Nathan asked. Rebecca told the story and everyone started laughing, while Kol looked like he was suffering from constipation.
"It was a dare!" Kol defended while looking like a tomato. It was unexpected when suddenly Bonnie kissed his cheek and smiled.
"It's funny," she said and relaxed herself into her seat. She didn't notice how shocked Kol was and the amount of happiness he showed. Looks like the clever witch is not so clever after all.
I felt so happy for her. She deserved a nice man.
"Caroline, there's someone watching us," Elena whispered beside me. "By the entrance," she said and I slowly turned to look.
There was a man, definitely no college student. He looked aged. He was staring at us intently and when he noticed me watching, he turned around and left the room.
"Must be some cleaner," I shrugged and brushed it off. Elena relaxed and went back to joking with the others.
I joined them too.
