Manal Could feel her stomach hurt, she needed food. She strolled back to the mansion and knocked on the front door calmly. The door was opened by Cairo who looked with so much anger and hate in his eyes. She knew, he felt like strangling her right there"What do you want woman?" He batted his long lashes as he spoke. She stared at her husband calmly, his dark skin was glowing under the gaze of the sun. He stood In front of her like a tall building for he was broad and huge. What fascinated her the most was how curly and well kept his body hair was. Which included his Hair, and His beard. His skin even looked more delicate than hers ever would. Indeed he was handsome, devilishly handsome for that matter. Oh, now she has come to know the saying that the devil is handsome isn't a joke. It is indeed true because Cairo was certainly a devils incarnate.
"I'm talking to you Manal" Her name, it flowed out of his mouth like a melody. She liked it whenever he called her name, she liked it whenever he stared at her. Oh, she wanted him to love her. She wanted to feel his forehead on hers and feel the safety that comes with his arm gripping onto hers.
"I came to get food" She said. She immediately averted her gaze from his. "And my clothes" She added.
"You want food right?" He asked and a nod was his reply.
"Okay you'll have to work for it" He said. She raised her head up to look at him. Was he kidding her, wasn't she his wife.
"I don't understand" She muttered. Hoping he didn't hear her but he did.
"You understand what I said and I am certain. You'll have to work for your meal, I'm hiring you as I and my wives maid" He said. She couldn't believe his words, did he really enjoy seeing her suffer. Or was he naturally this wicked. She thought.
"But I'm your w..." He cut her shut.
"Oh please, Don't call yourself my wife. You are lucky I haven't divorced you yet, I only pity you because of my mother. She loved you, which I find so hard to understand why. Because you are ugly, very local and extremely disgusting. What human would even like you?" His voice had a very strong sense of hatred, his words were venomous and She felt her eyes itch from the tears that threatened to fall. What did she do to deserve so much hatred from her own husband. What kind of test was Allah putting up for her?.
"What work do you want me to do?" She asked. Her tears deceived her into thinking she was strong by not falling, but no. It fell, from her left to her right eyes. Water cascaded. Indeed she was cheated by her own tears.
"Good girl, I fired the gardener because you'll be doing his work from now on. And also, I and my wives car need to be washed today. So go to the laundry room and go get soap and water and wash it. After that you can take raw rice and whatever ingredients you require to make food with" He spoke with so much command in his voice. This man wasn't her husband no more, but a Devil.
"Okay Thank you" She decided to make her way in with the little space by his side. He held her arm and said "Why don't you just run away, this punishment might get too much for you Manal" For her, his hand against her skin meant allot. After three years, this was the first time he held her calmly and not in Anger.
"I'll work, May I go in?" She dared to look him in the eyes and then looked away once more. His eyes were always threatening.
"Very Well. We shall see" he let go of her arm and excused her to walk in. She made her way into the house and went to get the soap, brush, and bucket from the backyard. She then proceeded towards the car which was not far from the backyard. It was a white G-WAGO and A latest Mercedes Benz which both belonged to Cairo. And then, a white 450 Mercedes Benz and a blue latest BMW which both belonged to Hadiza. She smiled at the sight of the little teddy bear that hung in front of both Cairo's car. She poured water on the G-WAGON and washed it clean in not less than forty minutes. When she was done she immediately proceeded to wash his Mercedes and that of Hadiza, she spent approximately two and the half hour washing all the vehicles. When she was done, a smile climbed onto her face. She never knew she could wash a car so nicely, it made her very happy to know that she could do such a splendid job. After she had gathered all the things she had used in washing the car together. She decided to head to the back door, she tried opening it but it didn't budge. 'Maybe someone locked it' she thought and decided to turn around to knock on the front door. She knocked for what seemed like hours to her but it wasn't opened,
"Cairo!" She screamed her husbands name loudly but she got no reply.
"Hadiza" No reply.
"Susu" No reply.
Unknown to her, Hadiza was staring at her with a smirk on her face from behind the curtains. Cairo had instructed Hadiza to hand her some money and some food stuffs before he had gone to sleep. Hadiza being her devilish self decided she wasn't going to give her. She saw Manal as useless, there's was no need for her being in the house after all. Those were Hadiza's cruel thought.
"Cairo, please open the door" She screamed loudly. She felt her stomach growl, it hurt her this time because she was already out of Energy. She was very hungry and knew she could faint if doesn't get something to eat. Feeling exhausted, she sat in front of the front door with her face in her palms. She was crying, what had she done so wrong to God to deserve so much punishment. She thought. Mallam Hamza, The gateman who had seen her in tears decided to approach her after so much deliberations.
"Madam, Uhm what's wrong?" He asked her. She raised her head up to stare at him, he looked at her. The situation of Manal was so bad, it almost brought tears to Hamza's eyes. Hamza knew all that was happening in the house after all, there was no doubt Cairo and Hadiza were the cause of her sadness. He knew them very well.
"It's Nothing Hamza" She sniffed.
"Madam, I'm sorry if I'm intruding. But I consider you my little sister and I wish you could share what you are going through withme. I swear I'll help you. in any way I can" He said. He truly meant his words. This woman was suffering and he couldn't just overlook her situation. It was bad, really bad.
"I'm hungry" After being touched by his words. She said, calmly. Another round of tears cascaded down her eyes as she began to speak "I haven't eaten since morning Hamza, I don't know what to do. Did I offend God?. Doesn't God love me any longer" She said. She couldn't control her sobs.
"Madam, I'm sorry about what's going on in your life. But don't you ever forget that Allah loves you very much and no one can love you more than he does. You are his servant and the lord never turns his back on his servant. Keep on praying, Do not lose your Taqwa (Trust). Allah is with you" He said.
"Thank you Hamza, I'll never forget this" She said.
"The last Laugh shall be yours if you put Allah first, I assure you this. I'll be right back Madam, Go to the cottage. I'll bring you something to eat" He said.
"No, Don't bother. I'll get something for myself" She said. She couldn't stress him.
"Madam, I'm your brother and you are my sister. We are from Adam (AS) we are one madam. Please let me help you" He said. She sniffed and nodded. She headed to the cottage. Indeed God has his angels everywhere.
