CHAPTER TWO | the castle

IVANNA BLACK RETURNED back to her friends before Harry woke up from his unconscious state. She didn't want to be there when he woke up and she doubted he even wanted her there. Plus she didn't want to stay that close to Remus Lupin any longer than she had to.

Maisie rolled her eyes most likely at some comment Draco made just mere seconds before Ivanna opened the door to the compartment.

"Are you alright?" Maisie immediately asked.

She nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." She admitted as she sat down. "I was with Finn. Harry fainted and there was this weird cloaked figure."

"A dementor." Draco interrupted. Growing up in an orphanage definitely didn't help either of the twins get ahead academically when it came to the wizarding world. It was almost like growing up with no magic at all. There were only very few books on a bit of history.

She nodded slowly, not having a care of what Draco had to say, even if he was right. He was her cousin, and her father was cousin to his mother, which unfortunately made them related. Other than Finn, he was the only other person she'd met in her family since her father's imprisonment.

"Anywho, Finn pulled me out because apparently one of my father's old friends is on the train." She admitted. "He's always been chasing for answers, I don't really care."

"You don't wanna know about your mother or anything? Or even the reason your father did what he did?" Maisie asked. "If I was in the situation, I would want answers."

She shrugged. "I just don't really care. My mother clearly didn't have an interest in my life or my brothers and it's clear my father was a horrible person." She said. "Why would I want to know anything about them?"

Maisie shrugged, not having an answer for that. "Just thought you'd wanna know where you came from."

Before Ivanna spoke up, Draco did. "My mum's talked about Sirius since his escape and said that it shocked everyone when they found out he turned Potter's parents into Voldemort."

"What do you mean?" Ivanna asked.

He shrugged. "She just said Sirius was the last person she expected, said that he and James lived together for a couple of years."

She looked up at the blonde. "People change." She mumbled, crossing her arms across her chest. This was the last conversation she wanted to have, especially with Draco.

When the train stopped, Ivanna was quick to get off. Sometimes she needed to get away from them. Draco was so annoying to be around that it made everyone else around him annoying to be around. She huffed as she climbed into one of the carriages, sitting on the far side in the corner. Fourth year, Luna Lovegood was on the other side.

She sat with her arms crossed as she watched Maisie and Draco finally step off the train. Very familiar students walked near her carriage, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, and Neville Longbottom.

"You're not going mad." Luna started to say, her voice soft as her eyes shifted away from the paper she was reading. "I can see them too. You're just as sane as I am."

Ivanna shifted uncomfortably, watching Harry stare at the front of the carriage, at the thestrals. She had recognized that it was odd that she could see them, but she could and didn't care that much about it. They all got into the carriage and Ivanna scooted as far away as possible.

"Hey, Ivanna." Hermione greeted quietly as she sat down next to her.

Ivanna glanced at her. "Hey." Was all she said before going silent again.

Hermione looked down for a moment before looking at her friends to speak. "Everyone this is Loony— Luna Lovegood." She said, glancing around nervously. "That's an interesting necklace."

Luna examined her necklace before letting it fall back against her chest. "It's a charm actually." She leaned toward Neville. "Keeps away the nargles." With that, the carriage started moving and everyone sat in silence. It was awkward but Ivanna preferred it to be quiet. She didn't prefer a loud atmosphere, especially around people she didn't get along with.

When the carriage came to a stop, Ivanna was the first to get off, in the distance she could hear Ron saying, "Bloody hell what's her problem?"

She ignored it though, she wanted to get away from those people but then again she didn't want to be around Draco and Maisie right now.

She looked up at the all too familiar castle, walking toward it. She could hear the whispers from students: "That's Sirius Black's daughter." or "I wonder if she knows where he is."

She hated it. She hated that Sirius was her father and she hated even more that he escaped Azkaban because now all attention was on her. Not so much Finn because of course he was too nice to become a killer, if any of them were to follow in their father's footsteps; it would be Ivanna.

That's what everyone said. She was in her own thoughts when suddenly someone wrapped an arm around her shoulder, walking beside her.

She jumped, instinct going to shove the person off. She looked to her side and spotted her brother, who barely stumbled backward at all due to her shove. "God you are so infuriating." She mumbled. "You better hurry off, I doubt you wanna be seen with me. It'll ruin your reputation."

He shrugged. "You seem odd." He pointed out. "Am I not allowed to check on my sister?"

She looked up at him, walking beside them as they approached the castle. "I'm fine." She reassured him. "Just—" her voice was low and she stopped herself.

"Just what?" He questioned, leaning closer to her so he could hear.

"People are saying things, that's all." She said, shrugging it off. "What's new. Somebody always has something to say about me."

He went quiet. He knew she was right, people often compared her to their father. "I'm sorry Ivy." He said. "You aren't him."

She bit her lip. "I wouldn't be so sure of that." She said, taking a deep breath. "There's still many years for me to turn out like he did."

"Don't say that."

She shrugged. "It's the truth." She said. "Everyone thinks it, Finn. That I'll end up like him, a traitor. I'm not like you. I can't just sit there and keep talking to people, I can't pretend to be nice to people, or be so happy all the time."

"Ivy—"

"This is why I don't want to find out anything about our parents." She said. "I don't want to see how similar I might be to him. You are welcome to go interrogate Remus Lupin, but I do not want to be a part of it." She glanced at him before shaking her head and rushing off.

"Ivanna!" He called after her but before he could make a step toward her, he was interrupted by his friends. He watched her figure disappear into the distance. Maybe she was right, maybe they shouldn't try and figure out anything about their father. Would it even be fill the void Finn felt? Or would it just make everything worse?
