013: London
If it was possible to have a cold war with yourself, then Alex was having one right now.
Ever since his revelation that his plan might not be going exactly as he expected and he might have in fact introduced a wolf into the house, he had been refusing to speak to Daehyun completely. Every time Daehyun tried to talk to him, he would pretend it was just a fly buzzing in his head.
"Are you going to keep ignoring me?"
Silence.
"Is there a reason for this?"
Silence.
"You know I may be stuck in your mind but it doesn't mean I can read it. What's wrong with you? Why are you acting like a completely different person?"
"Hello? Alex? Am I speaking to myself here?"
"Just shut up!" Alex stood up and shouted to no one in particular. He had been desperately trying to ignore Daehyun but Daehyun was too persistent. It was frustrating really, being stuck in the same body as your clueless love rival. The worse part was that Daehyun had completely no clue why he was being so angsty, which was even more annoying because it meant he couldn't properly hate the guy.
"Why on earth are you pissed off with me! Is it that time of the month?"
"Do you honestly not know?" Alex walked over to the mirror and sat down in front of it. Looking at Daehyun's reflection in the mirror made him feel like he was having a proper conversation with somebody instead of talking to himself.
"I won't know unless you tell me right? I offend people all the time, it gets hard to keep track."
Alex couldn't resist laughing out loud. It was so true. The way Daehyun talked really grated on you if you didn't know him well enough, simply because he was far too pragmatic and direct, and he could imagine that few people would actually stick around to get to know him at a different level. If they hadn't been stuck in the same body, then he probably wouldn't have bothered speaking to Daehyun for more than two sentences either.
"Do you remember why we started on this journey?"
"You mean why you started on this journey. I'm just the kidnapped victim here. Of course I remember, you wanted to hunt down Eunri and remind her of how much she actually loves you, and ideally you'd get a happily ever after once you get out of my body."
"Do you think that's happening right now?"
"What do you mean by that?"
"Throughout this trip you've been constantly reminding me that everything I say or do is being said and done in your capacity. As long as I am stuck here, then everything I do is being done as you. I didn't realise this before, but this might have been a huge mistake right from the start."
Daehyun didn't respond. A heavy silence set in, looming above their heads like a dark cloud. Outside, the winter rain pelted relentlessly against the windows.
"While I've been going around like a maniac chasing after her, and all these things I've been doing for her, I've been doing all of it as Alex Yang. But Eunri doesn't know that... She thinks that the one doing everything is you—Lee Daehyun." He looked straight at the reflection in the mirror, and a sadness appeared in his eyes. This was not his reflection, this was Daehyun, and this was the face Eunri had been looking at all this time.
"I'm just going to ask you one question now, so answer me honestly, alright? I think I may implode if I don't know the answer to this."
"What is it?"
"Do you like Eunri?"
A short pause.
"No"
"Really?" Alex raised an eyebrow, eyeing Daehyun's reflection suspiciously.
"Really."
A smile stretched across Alex's face and he looked somewhat relieved at his answer. "Phew. Do you know how stressed I've been over the past couple of days? I'm scared as hell that Eunri might be starting to fall for you, and if you like her too, then I'm completely screwed!"
Daehyun let out an awkward laugh. "Are you an idiot? Why would I like the same girl as you? Your taste and mine are on two completely different levels! It's probably because you're reminding her of you, that's why she's being all confused. Deal with the consequences of your own actions."

It was the biggest, most shitty lie that Daehyun had ever had to tell, and he wished that he could just bury his head in the sand now. Instead, he was looking at his own reflection in the mirror, thinking about what a lousy friend he was. He knew that Eunri belonged to Alex, and he would have to give her back sooner or later, but a part of him actually wished that time wouldn't come so soon.
The more he had to lie to Alex about how he truly felt, the more lousy he felt inside, but there was no other way. Even though he denied it all the time, he had actually come to like Alex a lot as a friend, and he didn't want to lose pretty much the only friend he had.
If he had to choose between a friend and a girl, Lee Daehyun would choose a true friend.

"Daehyun?" Eunri's voice came from outside the room, and a hesitant knock appeared at the door.
"It's Eunri. What should I do?" Alex jumped up from his seat in a panic. He started pacing around the room mumbling incoherently to himself. Ever since he started having the nagging suspicion that Eunri was starting to fall for Daehyun, he had been somewhat distancing himself from her as well. Even when they went out visiting the usual tourist attractions around town, he said a lot less than he usually did.
"Are you in there?" Eunri asked again.
"What are you doing? Aren't you going to answer the door?"
"What am I supposed to say when I open the door!"
"Uh you could find out what she wants for a start?"
"You think I should?"
"I think it's better than making her wait outside like this."
"Okay you're right. I'm going to open the door." Alex took a deep breath and walked towards the door. After all, Daehyun had assured him that he didn't fancy Eunri, so what harm could be done? He slowly opened the door and peered outside, expecting to see Eunri standing there. But there was no one outside.
"Eunri?" he whispered.
"You took too long, you fool. She's probably left already."
Alex sprinted down the stairs, only to find Miyeon sitting alone in the living room, flipping through her Hello! magazine.
"Miyeon, where's Eunri?"
Jiyeon looked up and said, "Eunri? She said she was going to the park down the road for a walk. She was going to ask you if you wanted to go along, did she not?"
"Okay thanks."
Alex quickly threw on his coat and headed out of the front door.
"Did you guys quarrel or something? You're both acting kind of weird lately," Miyeon shouted after him, but the only reply she received was the sound of the door slamming shut. "The two of you should just quit playing games and get together already. Sheesh..."
Alex walked as briskly as he could down the pavement towards the park. He didn't know why but he felt that sense of urgency all of a sudden, and he just needed to see Eunri standing in front of him. Perhaps it was because he felt guilty for having been so cold towards her over the past few days.
"Have you thought of what you're going to say when you see her?"
Once again, a small technicality that Alex had a habit of neglecting.
"No, I'll think about that when the time comes."
Daehyun sighed. "You really need to stop being so impromptu about things you know?"
Daehyun was the man with the plan and would stick to the damn plan. Alex was the man with the plan who would do something completely unrelated to the plan.
"Chill. I'll improvise once we get there."
"Suit yourself. I'll just go... take a nap in your mind."
Alex found Eunri sitting on one of the park benches, watching some kids fly kites on the grass in front of her. He stopped and admired the view for a couple of minutes. In his eyes, Eunri would always look as beautiful as she did on the first day he met her, with her long wavy hair and soft, fair skin. He didn't know how he had come to take her for granted, not telling her how important she was to him and even sidelining her in favour of his musical endeavours, but he completely regretted it now. In fact, he didn't even remember when was the last time he told her he loved her. It had been too long, way too long.
He took a deep breath and walked up to the bench, sitting down beside her.
Eunri turned to look at him with surprise, saying, "Daehyun? How did you find me here?"
"Miyeon told me."
"Oh..." Eunri turned back to look at the kids, avoiding Alex's gaze. She pulled her scarf a little higher, hiding half her face behind it.
They sat there in silence for a little while.
"This is why I told you you needed to plan what you wanted to say. Are the both of you just going to sit here and say nothing now? It's really not helping your cause you know," Daehyun went into one of his usual grumbles.
Alex was already used to it so he could easily let Daehyun's words flow in through one ear and out the other.
Eunri was the one who spoke first.
"Is there a reason why you're avoiding me?" she asked quietly.
"Huh?" Alex was taken aback by how direct her question was. He laughed awkwardly. "What do you mean? I'm not avoiding you!" He knew he probably had a guilty look on his face right now, but he couldn't control it.
"You don't have to lie. I can tell..." Eunri mumbled.
"It's not that... It's— I— We..." Alex was tongue-tied. He didn't know what to say.
"Look it's really okay if you don't like me in that way. I mean, I'm not sure how I feel about you myself. Anyway our trip in London is coming to an end, so we probably won't be seeing each other for a while. You don't have to worry about me bothering you anymore if that's what you're concerned about," Eunri said quickly, standing up and heading away from the park bench.
As they watched her walk further and further away from them, Alex felt a pang of heartache pierce right through him. This messed up situation was entirely his fault, yet Eunri was now bearing the consequences. He had confused her—intentionally too.
"You can't just let her leave like that!" Daehyun exclaimed.
The distance between them was growing with every passing second. Soon, Eunri would disappear around the street corner and he would lose sight of her completely.
"You're right, I can't just let her leave. I'm going to tell her everything."
Alex sprung to his feet and broke into a run. He didn't care if he was in Daehyun's body anymore, he had to tell Eunri what was going on. He had to tell her that it was him, Alex Yang, and that it had been him all along. He didn't care if she thought he was crazy, he would make her believe it somehow.
He caught up with her and grabbed her by the elbow, spinning her around to face him.
As he looked into her eyes, he could see that they were glistening from the tears that had gathered.
"Lee Daehyun, what do you want now? One minute you're the sweetest, most caring guy there could ever be, and the next you're like some icy cold stranger? I already said I would leave, why are you still being like this?"
A single teardrop trickled down her cheek.

Daehyun's resolve crumbled when he saw the tear fell from her eye. She wasn't crying because of Alex. She was crying because of him. For the first time in his entire life, a girl was crying because of him.
Without thinking, he put a hand round the back of her head and pulled her towards him, crushing his lips against hers. Her lips felt soft and warm under his, and he could taste the slight tinge of saltiness from the tears that were now flowing non-stop from her eyes. As their lips finally parted, he used his fingers to wipe the tears from her eyes.
"I'm sorry. It's all my fault. Please don't cry..."
It wasn't till a minute later when he heard Alex's voice in his head that he realised something was wrong. Everything was wrong.
"What the hell just happened..."
Lee Daehyun felt the impulse to kiss Eunri, and he did.
Lee Daehyun wanted to apologise for making her cry, and he did.
Lee Daehyun was back.
