Chapter Thirty Six
Henry waited on the first day of classes for Hope to come skipping to the boy's dorm bright and early to wake him up. He had surprised himself by being awake so earlier as he remained lying in bed, waiting patiently. Past the usual time of her appearance, Hope still hadn't shown up, causing Henry to become concerned as he sat up and glanced outside. When the sun was up, Hope was up and it had been long up and there was no sign of his best friend.
Fergus stirred awake in his bed before sitting up groggily and looking around in confusion.
"Wait a second, did I actually wake up on my own?" Fergus asked him.
"Yeah." Henry answered. "It's weird, isn't it?"
"Where's Hope? Should she be jumping back and forth on our beds telling us to get our lazy bums up?"
"I was about to say the same thing, Fergie, but she's not here." Henry finally climbed out of his bed completely. "I think she's mad at me. She told me she wasn't but she has to be. Did she tell you differently? Is she mad at me?"
"No, I don't think she's mad at you, Henry." Fergie said. "At least, she didn't tell me if she was. I know she was upset from the summer though."
Henry groaned and covered his face. "I knew it, I knew I shouldn't have listened to Teddy. Of all the stupid things he said, this was by far is worse advice to date."
"Yet, you're the one who listened to him." Fergus pointed out. 'You know how terrible he was giving advice, why did you listen?"
The boy sat back on his bed. "Because...I was desperate, Fergie. I can't even deny it at this point, I wasn't sure what to do. I was upset, not with Hope, but with McGregor, I was willing to do anything at that point. I shouldn't have listened though, you're right."
"Well, of course I am. Besides, I don't think Hope is upset with what happened over the summer."
"Really?"
Fergus nodded his head. "To be honest, I think Hope is really confused right now. After all, she did see you kiss Alyssa and then she saw you holding hands with Tori. I mean, that's great and all for you, Henry but I thought you like-"
"She saw all that?!" Henry was back on his feet again, pulling at his long hair. "Please tell me you're joking!"
"Henry, I wasn't around to witness that, and you didn't tell me that you kissed Alyssa, how else do you think I found out about it?"
"No, no, no!" Henry shook his head repeatedly. "That wasn't what it looked like."
"What else would it look like besides kissing someone?"
"I didn't kiss her, she kissed me!" Henry told him. "I swear..."
"But then you held hands with Tori. What are you doing, Henry? You claimed to like Hope but then you do all this other stuff." Fergus shook his head. 'If anything, I thought maybe for a second that Hope was feeling the same way towards you, but after she witnessed all that, I doubt it."
He thought back to when Hope slid off his back and the two walked silently back to the Gryffindor Tower, until they parted ways saying goodnight.
"What have I done?" He groaned.
"You need to get your priorities in order." Fergus instructed him. "If this is what you do to get girls to like you, I'm going to have to say that I think your methods are terrible."
Hope moved around the mixture of oatmeal and cinnamon that was gooey and mushy in her bowl, but not taking a single bite out of it. It was one of the first breakfasts where she sat alone at the Gryffindor table as she had somehow decided not to go wake Henry and Fergus up as she normally did.She nearly threw her spoon out of her hand when someone called out her name. Glancing up, she saw Tori making her way over to her.
"Hey Tori." she greeted with a small smile.
"Hi, Hope. Have you seen Henry?" Tori asked her.
Hope looked down at her oatmeal, picking up her spoon again.
"No." She replied bluntly.
"Oh." Tori said making Hope realize how harsh her answer had sounded. "Well, alright then, thank you."
After watching the other girl walk away, Hope groaned and dropped her head onto the table after pushing her oatmeal away from her.
"Ugh, what is wrong with me?"
"I've been asking myself that for a long time."
The girl's head jerked up to see Sirius, standing on the other side of the Gryffindor table.
"Not now, Paddywhack." She grumbled looking away from him as she buried her face into her arms.
Sirius became immediately concerned to see the child not in a bright and happy mood as she always in.
"What's wrong, Little Lupin Weasley Spawn?" he asked. "What's got you down?"
"I don't know." She answered. "I really don't."
"It isn't like you to be like this." Sirius said taking a seat across from her. "Where's Henry?"
"I SAID I DON'T KNOW!" she snapped at him. Suddenly, her eyes grew wide as she realized she had snapped at one of the men that had been in her life since she was a baby, not to mention was one of her professors.
Immediately, her face flushed red in embarrassment before she quickly picked herself up and ran out of the Great Hall.
Sirius sighed.
"Teenagers....hormonal creatures they are."
