Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1

Jessica's POV

I woke up with a still sleeping Madison to my right. She had been hurt so much. One of these days, I was scared that her father would go too far...and she would die.

She was my only friend, I was hers. I had no idea how to help her except to tend to her wounds and give her a shoulder to cry on. After all of these years I wondered why Madison's mother did nothing about it. There was no way that her mother didn't notice.

I slowly got out of bed, careful not to wake a sleepy Madison. I walked over to my bathroom and stripped to take a quick shower before I cooked breakfast.

Madison's POV

I bolted upright as I felt a sudden sharp pain in my left arm. I wimpered softly. The pain was coming from where Jessica gave me stitches. I figured that I would get this pain soon, but I didn't want to get it while I was asleep. I didn't want to wake up to the pain.

Once I woke up to that, I moved. I soon found out that that wasn't the best idea once I felt all the pain of the bruises and cuts. I collasped to the ground in pain as I held onto my left arm to keep it from hitting the floor. I cried out as I hit the ground on my elbow.

Jessica's POV

I ran out of the bathroom as I heard Madison scream out. I didn't even care that I didn't have a shirt on, I had to get to her. I saw her on the ground holding her left arm and her right elbow crying out in pain. I ran over to her and put her head on my lap.

"Shh..." I tried to sooth her from the pain she was feeling. I reached forward and pulled her right arm away from her left. She screamed as I did so and I stopped my movements and put her arm down. I felt it and ignored her screams as this was important and declared that it was broken.

"I'm sorry, Crys." I apologized. "Shit." I cursed as I realized that I didnt have any slings in my room. "I'll be right back." I told her as I got up after softly placing her head on one of my pillows.

I slowly walked down the carpeted stairs even though I was pretty sure that my parents were out since they didn't come rushing up stairs when they heard screaming. I checked the driveway first before making my way to my parents room and grabbing the handle. 'Shit it's locked.'

I pulled a bobby pin out of my hair and snapped it in half. I quickly adjusted the two halfs and played with the lock. Suddenly I heard a click. I was no stranger to picking locks. I cracked the door open just in case, even though there was no car in the drive way, I sighed in relief that the room was empty. I went straight to the closet and opened the door.

I leaned over and picked up a good sized sling that would be the best fit for my hurt friend. I walked back up the stairs and went straight to Madison, she was in the same position as she was when I left.

"Honey I need to adjust you so I can get a sling on you." I told her, sitting next to her on the floor. She carefully sat up without using either of her arms and looked towards me, silently asking me what to do next. I grabbed her arm and slowly brought it in a little over a 90 degree angle close to her chest. I then continued to put on her sling.

"Thanks, it feels better than it did before." Madi told me with a small smile. I believed her as I saw some of the color come back to her cheeks and she didn't look like she was going to start crying at any second.

"Ok good. Now let me check your stitches, I noticed that you forgot to put on the wrap last night." I said with a smug smile in my voice and I looked up at Madi with a smirk covering my face as my left dimple popped out.

"Oh sorry, I was just exhausted and I wanted to go to bed, and my wrist hurt and.." I cut her off from her uncontrollable rambling.

"You're fine. It wasn't that important, I just wanted you to be comfortable." I told her a huge smile on my face that I always get whenever she rambles like that, even over the smallest things. I really didn't want to go to school tomorrow and if Madi stays home like I think she will then I'm staying home with her, I don't care if I get into trouble.

"Hey, are you going to stay home tomorrow?" I asked her, this was her home, she'd even told me. If she did I was staying home with her and we would watch movies up here or something since both of my parents are going to be at work all day tomorrow. "My parents will be gone all day so we can do whatever we want." I told her.

"Yeah I think so, I'm way to sore and just tired to go to school for the next few days, I don't even think I have the strength to put makeup on over my bruises and cuts." She told me as I looked at her stitches to make sure they hadn't ripped or anything like that.

"Ok, take as long as you need. And I'm staying with you every day of that whether you tell me to go to school or not." I told Madison as I put her arm down. I stood up and started walking to the bathroom. "Well I'm gonna go do what I planned to do when I first woke up." I laughed lightly. I noticed that she just noticed that I didn't have a shirt on.

"Oh, sorry I didn't mean for you to be taken away from your shower." She stuttered out an apology.

"You're fine. You were in pain. I wasn't going to just stay in the bathroom. But now I need to take a shower." I chuckled and walked into the bathroom without another word and locked the door.
