Episode: Four

April 20, 2087 14:32 POV: Phoenix

Candle Lake, Washburo county, California was the be-all and end-all of places to live. Everyone wanted to be here, and the ones living in it never wanted to leave. It truly was a safe haven. My parents were addicted to cocaine, so when they found out they were pregnant, they opted for a different destiny than what I was going to get, so they put me up for adoption as soon as I was born.

I was only in the adoption agency/ foster care for three months before a family decided they wanted me. Finch, and Gosling Falcon. Two men with bird names. They saw me, out of all the people, and choose me. There was even a girl there named Robin, but they choose the one named Nicolle.

I couldn't have been happier to be adopted by two dads. They changed my name legally almost as soon as I was in the car leaving the adoption agency, so I would fit in with them. When I was about four, my dad's were really busy, so they decided to adopt another kid. They went all the way to North Dakota to pick her up. Her name was Emma, and she was the best birthday present I could have ever imagined. She had soft blonde hair and icy blue eyes. She was one. We instantly fell in love with each other and strengthened our family. We changed her name to Owl.

As I said, everything was perfect with our strange family of four, but in 2080, the lovely town known as Candle Lake would turn into an underground coffin sealed with your final words. It was because of the election.

The presidential election was a normal, average thing to happen to everyone, and it came around again. Here were the candidates:

Gretchen Holly

Tristian Brandon

Marcus Leonard

Gracy Rebeca

You heard me right. The man himself, Marcus Leonard was running for his second term. He was the president in 2071, and almost started World War Four! And now, here we are again. Beyond all possible beliefs, he won the election. Within three hundred days of being in office, we were already in a war with North Korea, and Russia. Yup, sounds fun amiright?

Race riots, same-sex marriage, problems that have been solved for centuries years were now bursting through the seams again. Finch was black, Gosling was white, and they were married together with two children. Of course, our family was attacked harder than any others. People regularly broke in, destroying our home life.

"Gossy, we can't do this to the kids," My father had tears in his eyes.

"Finch, they're all we have. We're all they have!" My father embraced him, crying into his shirt.

"Gossy, they have each other. Phoenix can help both of them. They're bursting through the door. They're going to be in here any second. We have to save them."

Gosling and Finch continued to stare intently into the eyes of each other, talking with no words. Gosling held my hand, and I grabbed Emma's. as we were lead upstairs to hide in a closet where we would remain. Hearing the doors being splintered open, punches being thrown, and finally, the shots being shot. These monsters killed my fathers because they were happy without the need to conform.

I had to grow up, and be a sister, and now a parent. How could I do with no guidance?

Owl and I managed to make it six years alone together, still in our father's house. The two gangs that were on either side of our house constantly broke in but mostly left us alone.

"Hey, Pheonix! I really need your help!" Owl shot me out of my mind and made me remember the task at hand. She was struggling to carry a large brown paper bag through the shattered door.

"Sorry. How, holy shit! How did you get all of this?" I said, peering into the bag after I helped her set it on the counter.

"I had to pry between the baby fight outside," She rolled her eyes, looking at her prizes. I looked at her face and saw a blood clumped amount of hair sticking to the blood streaking from her eyebrow.

"What happened?!" I grew hysterical, digging for some fresh bandages.

"No! Don't waste those! One of the idiot's traps caught my feet, and missed the original target, surprising, isn't it?!" She groaned, wiping the dripping blood to the left side of her face.

"Are you sure you're okay? That's a lot of blood," I said, looking closer to her.

"I'm fine. Heads bleed a lot. How are things here?" She asked, stacking a dented can into our doorless cabinet.

"Well, things are fine," I said, lying through my teeth.

"Better than bad I guess?" She said, pushing the hair out of her eyes, and setting down the empty bag.

Our casual conversation was interrupted by the thunder of bullets slinging past our ears.

"HOLY SHIT!!" Owl shouted as the door that was barely holding together was ravaged by two gangs of idiots bursting through. She and I ran through a barrage of bullets and screams hoping to get to the top of the stairs.

"THERE ARE GIRLS HERE!!" One of the hooligans shouted, refusing to a ceasefire.

"OWL, GODDAMN IT MOVE!!" I shouted, pushing her ass up the stairs. She screamed for me to stop. I looked to see what was keeping her here. Her right leg had fallen through the steps and was stuck.

"PHEONIX, YOU HAVE TO GO!!" She shouted at me, crying in pain over her leg.

"I'M NOT LEAVING YOU HERE!!" I had tears streaking down my face.

"LET THE GIRLS GO!!" Someone shouted, as a bullet whizzed past our heads and we screamed.

"PHEONIX! I'M A LOST CAUSE! GO! I LOVE YOU!!" She shouted, pushing me up the stairs, the blood from her leg getting all over the place.

The men with bullets kept creeping over, and soon they were almost on top of us. I know this is either one gets out, or all die situation.

"I LOVE YOU OWL!!" I screamed, bolting up the stairs, knowing I have a limited time to get a weapon and hide.

"Wildcat!"

"Wildcat, come on, you don't have to!"

"Wildcat what the fuck?!"

"Just leave them alone Wildcat!"

Thousands of pleas to apparently Wildcat to leave my sister alone. I sobbed, grabbing a pistol, and hid in a closet.

"Shut the fuCK UP!! They've seen too much! We cannot let them know," The grouvly voiced man shouted.

"Know what?!"

"I'M in command for a reason Anthony! I wouldn't do anything that I didn't think we needed to do! Grab the bitch!" He shouted. I heard clomping foots getting closer and closer to my sister. The ripping started slow, but the screaming was instant. I covered my mouth to conceal the screams. The stairs remained in Owl's leg by the sound of it. The final scream was from her finally being free.

"Anthony, Bryce, and Scotty, you take the bitch back. Luke, come upstairs with me." The man shouted again. I won't have another chance to make it again right for Owl, so I know what I must do.

Three days later

My house is ravaged apart. Glass, wood, bullet shells, and blood remain all around. Nothing is the same. Owl is gone. The only noise was coming from my small boxy TV.
