Chapter 6
Dang!
How much of the conversation did Jungkook hear?
My fiancé slowly crosses the kitchen with a smirk on his face. His hair is curly and fluffy; it sways with each step.
He grabs me by waist and leans down to place a quick kiss to my cheek.
"Everything," he says placing another one on my neck. "I heard everything."
What the flip flap apple jack?
"You just said 'what the flip flap apple jack' in your head."
"Jungkook!" I stomp on his foot. My fiancé hops on one foot in pain. "Now you're being dramatic because I'm barefoot."
A small chuckle escapes his lips. "I'm sorry, Doll. You're just so predictable. You looked like a deer in headlights when I walked in. And I know you stole that phrase from the novel Devil Incarnate to help you stop cursing, even in your inner thoughts."
He steals another quick kiss before rushing out of the room.
I'm predictable?
Did he just call me predictable?
I'll show him predictable.
I chug the rest of the water before throwing the bottle in our recycling bag. I make my way through the den. Yoongi and Namjoon are sitting on the couch. I nod to them as I make my way to the steps....
...only to find Jungkook sitting in the middle of the steps.
"Pre-dict-able." He smirks.
If I had something near me it would be flying his way right now.
Stupid fiancé of mine.
Jungkook skips down the steps and steals another kiss as he passes me. Yoongi and Namjoon meet him by the front door. Namjoon places a straw hat on top of Jungkook's head.
"Lets go ahead so I can get this nap in," Yoongi groans.
My ears perk up at this. "To do what?"
Namjoon places his hands in his pockets. He and Yoongi are wearing a straw hat as well. Namjoon's silver hair lays nearly under the hat. He's wearing cargo shorts that perfectly highlight his legs. His long frame makes him look like a model.
He purses his plump lips before speaking. "Hangover fish. We were supposed to go this morning but for obvious reasons, we didn't. And we left about 30 minutes ago and made it to the lake but-"
"-Jungkook left the cooler full of ice and water," Yoongi cuts in.
My fiancé gives a huge, cheesy grin before giving a wave around. "Hi, I'm Jungkoo, the one who left the cooler."
I giggle as his silliness.
I start to bounce on the heels of my feet. "Can I come, please? Please?"
Yoongi hands me the picnic basket that he's holding.
"Jungkook get him a sun hat and grab the cooler if you don't mind," Namjoon orders before he and Yoongi make their exit.
Jungkook quickly finds my sun hat and sandals before spraying me with sunscreen. We carry the cooler and picnic basket out to Namjoon's jeep. It's so cool. I love riding in his doorless jeep every summer. It makes me feel like I'm going on an adventure.
We pack everything in be back with the fishing rods before jumping in the backseat. Namjoon blasts his music loud. It feels so good with the wind blowing through my hair.
I look over at my fiancé. He looks so beautiful with his windswept hair.
I'm so lucky to call him mine.
He looks over at me and smiles. His hand wraps around mine.
Namjoon is now playing Happiness by Red Velvet.
And just like every moment that I'm with him, I feel happiness.
About 20 minutes later, we're at the lake and on the boat that we rented. Yoongi and Namjoon helped us to set up our fishing lines. Luckily, we are not using live bait. Namjoon and Yoongi sit on one end of the boat, Jungkook and I on the other. Namjoon has dark, square sun glasses that he wears while he reads some book.
Yoongi is leaning back with his hat tilted a bit to shade his eyes. His eyes are closed and his doll like lips are slightly parted. The blue hair that slightly peeks from under makes him look even more unreal.
He wears a black tee shirt layered under an unbuttoned, long sleeve plaid shirt.
I may borrow that shirt for one of the nights we sit around the campfire. It's campfire-ish.
Jungkook has already started eating on one of the deli wraps that Seokjin has prepared for us.
"Joon?" Yoongi calls without even opening his eyes.
"Lil Meow Meow, hyung," Namjoon teases back. Jungkook and I snicker in the background.
"Yah! I'll show you a meow," Yoongi playfully threatens.
Namjoon bites his lips and lets out a purr.
I can't hold in my laugh anymore at this point. Yoongi's cheeks are a bright pink as he laughs as well because he wasn't expecting that comeback.
Jungkook rolls his eyes while laughing. "I'm embarrassed to be your son."
"Where do you think you came from, son?" Yoongi questions. Namjoon winks behind him.
Once our laughing dies down Namjoon continues to create conversation. "What did you initially want, hyung?"
Yoongi closes his eyes once more. He does his best to get comfortable once more in the boat. "Tell us about the book you're reading."
Namjoon's smile slightly falters. "It's...interesting, for a lack of a better word." He crinkles his nose as he looks down at the tattered pages of the book. "I swiped it off the coffee table in the den because I assumed it was one of yours. But I see why whoever brought it left it out. It's quite unsettling."
Yoongi's eyebrow perks up in interest. Jungkook continues to swipe snacks from the picnic basket. I lightly tap him so that he'll stop but he just hands me a bag of cut melon to snack on.
"The book speaks of fulfilling prophecy for some chosen one. It's a bit cliche. But then it goes into how one must be sacrificed in order to appease the chosen one, someone pure."
"Like Jimin?" Yoongi jokes.
Jungkook stills beside me.
"I'm happily pure," I say tossing my hair.
Namjoon clears his throat. "As I was saying before Yoongi interrupted to talk about the babies on the boat-"
"-I am not a baby!"
"You are too, Jimin! But you're our baby so ssh!" Namjoon continues. "I may finish reading up on the process because it'll probably help me to understand criminal behavior but the pages are very worn. It doesn't say what designates the chosen one or when the sacrifice must be made. So far I got that a pure person must be sacrificed to show true devotion to the chosen one. A pure person is not only pure sexually, but is made of a pure heart as well-"
"Well flip flack apple jack, that's me!" The thought slips out of my mouth before I'm able to stop myself.
Jungkook's eyes are wide for a moment before he looks to the water. He's been very uncomfortable ever since we've been on this topic.
"Is this your book, Jungkook?" Yoongi's voice is soft and calm. He tilts his hat back to get a better look at said boy.
Jungkook lowers his hat as he turns his gaze to the water. "No."
Yoongi drops the subject. Namjoon takes the book and places it in his backpack before pulling out his phone to take pictures of the lake. My hand finds its way to Jungkook's tense shoulders.
Maybe he's unsettled because he's a good hearted, virgin as well. But that book is for someone sick. Who believes in stuff like that?
"It isn't mine but I've read that book before," Jungkook begins. Namjoon takes one last selfie and we turn all eyes to my fiancé. "The sacrifice must be made one year upon reaching a certain birthday, I can't remember which one. Only a pure soul can please the master who anointed the chosen one. From there, the chosen one will take his throne to reign."
Namjoon is careful with his question. "Reign what exactly?"
"I'm not sure exactly. I guess he's the link between good and evil."
"He has to be evil if a sacrifice is made for him," I say adding to the conversation.
Jungkook hums in acknowledgment to my statement. His gaze still trained on the lake.
We all sit in silence for another hour. Eventually we drift off to sleep. I find myself awaking an hour later. Somehow I stretched out across Jungkook's lap. He slept sitting up. Namjoon is laying back using his backpack as a pillow. Yoongi slept propping himself up on his arms.
Zero fish are caught today.
We unanimously agree to drive to the fish market in town. So the rental boat is returned and we hop into Namjoon's jeep for the quick drive. We order a couple of pounds of fresh, gutted fish. That way we will only have to clean and cook the fish once we get home. It only takes a couple of minutes to receive the fish and pay.
Jungkook and I put the bags of fish in the now empty cooler.
"Joon?" Yoongi points down the road. "Could you stop us by there? I want soju."
Namjoon, who's scrolling on his phone, nods at Yoongi's request. He then starts the jeep and drives down the road. Once we're parked, Yoongi turns around and grins.
"Can you two save us old men the trouble and go in the store?" Yoongi grabs my hand and places money in my palm before we can give an answer.
Jungkook leans forward so that he's between Namjoon and Yoongi. "I'll go in if the hyungs agree to buy banana milk."
"Anything for you," Yoongi states with no hesitation. He then turns to Namjoon. "They need more money, Joon."
"So give it to them."
Yoongi snatched Namjoon's wallet out of his pocket and quickly passes a few bills to Jungkook.
"That was my hard earned cash you jerk!"
Yoongi smiles his gummy smile as he faces as annoyed Namjoon. "Children first, Joon. Children first."
