I Wouldn't Mind
Summary: Oneshot based of the song I Wouldn't Mind by He is We. A flash of Louis and Harry's life as they spend forever together.
XX
It was a love story people dream about having. The kind of luck people hope for in finding the one special person in which they will fall in love with. A fairytale really. Harry and Louis were that fairytale. They've been together ever since they could remember. It was inevitable for them to fall in love. Late nights and early mornings, steamy sex and gentle cuddles, careless whispers and soft touches. They were happy in their small loft styles apartment. They grew together, fell together, did everything, together. Their story, was beautiful.
~Merrily we fall
Out of line, out of line
I'd fall anywhere with youI'm by your side~
Louis was feeling spontaneous and had grabbed Harry's arm right before he went into his final class of that day. Harry was startled at first, but his features softened when he saw the smiling blue eyed boy. He let Louis drag him out of school and away from the building. They went out to a small hidden lake, just outside of town. "Do you have any idea how cold that water probably is?" Harry asked as Louis began to strip down.
Louis tossed his shirt and began unbuttoning his jeans. "Live a little Haz. We're stuck in school all day. Sixteen year olds are not made to sit at desks. Now strip or you're going in like that."
Harry just rolled his eyes before stripping himself of his clothes, taking Louis' hand as they ran into the lake. Louis wrapped his arms around Harry's waist making them fall under. When they came up Harry shook his hair out of his face and smiled at Louis. "You're crazy you know that?"
Louis nodded, floating over before pulling Harry close to him. He stared at the boys chest, watching watching slowly drip down. He put one hand on the boys neck, his thumb rubbing his cheek, letting the other hand reach out and touch Harry's chest, feeling his heart thump. "You're the one that followed me here," He said softly.
"I'd follow you anywhere Lou. You know that."Louis smiled. "I love you.""I love you too," Harry said, connecting their lips.
~Swinging in the rain
Humming melodies
We're not going anywhere until we freeze~
Louis pushed Harry on the swing, the curly hair boy leaning back, pecking Louis' lips as he came back. "You're such a dork."
"I like to keep things fun," Harry said.
"I like to think I'm a fun person," Louis said getting on the swing next to him.
"You are, believe me," Harry laughed. "You're every seventeen year old boys dream," Harry winked reaching out to hold Louis' hand as the gently swung back and forth.
"Well, I don't want to be every boys dream. Only yours."Harry smiled, squeezing Louis' hand.
"You are."
Louis let go and pumped his legs swinging high into the sky, leaning back, feeling the wind glide blow by. He opened his eyes as he felt a water droplet. "I think it's going to rain."
"I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon."
Louis nodded. They stayed. They sat and continued to swing as the rain came pouring down, soaking them to the bone. They laughed and they smiled, and eventually ended up on the ground kissing, not once caring about the colds they knew they were bound to get. "How'd I get so lucky?" Louis asked as they walked, shaking a little as they made their way home.
"Same way I did. I love you.""I love you too," Louis hummed. "Very much."
~I'm not afraid, anymore
I'm not afraid
Forever is a long time
But I wouldn't mind spending it by your side~
"I'm scared," Harry said, his head resting against Louis' chest, listening to the soothing sounds of his boyfriends heartbeat.
Louis held him a little tighter and kissed his forehead. "I'm not."
Harry looked up at him. Louis could tell how much this has been bothering him. He looked so tired. "We're about to graduate Louis. We real adults now. We're not going to the same University and, I don't want anything to happen to us."
"How could anything happen? We've known each other since we were five and been best friends since. Hell, we've pretty much been boyfriends since. There's no way you're getting rid of me just because we're finally stepping out into the world."
"I just feel like I'm not going to see you," Harry admitted.
"It's only for a short while. We're going to go to Uni, we're going to be just fine, and before you know it we'll find an apartment somewhere in between and be living together. You and me forever right?"
"Forever is an awfully long time Lou," Harry said softly.
"I wouldn't mind spending it with you," He smiled.
Harry kissed Louis softly. "I love you Louis."
"So we're okay? You're not afraid anymore?"
Harry smiled and shook his head. "I'm not afraid."
~Carefully we're placed for our destiny
You came and you took this heart, and set it free
Every word you write or sing is so warm to me, so warm to me
I'm torn, I'm torn to be right where you are~
"You're sickenly cute," Louis grumbled, looking over at Harry sitting on the floor playing with their new baby kitten.
Harry grinned at Louis, grabbing the small animal and standing up to go greet Louis. He puckered his lips, Louis smiling, leaning in and giving him a kiss. "Missed you."
"Missed you too," Louis said. "Sorry it took me so long to get home. Got stuck finishing a project."
"It's alright. I'm wicked tired though," Harry yawn, stretching out, their kitten purring in his arms, eyes fighting to stay open as well. "Will you make us some tea?"
Louis nodded and gave Harry's butt a pat. "Now go lay down. I'll be up in a few."
Harry nodded and scurried away. Louis shook his head fondly before going to the kitchen. He started their tea before noticing something taped to the fridge. He pulled the paper off and opened it up.
Oh uh, Hi Lou. I know you're probably confused as to why I wrote this letter, but I just couldn't bring myself to say this to in person. I love you. I know I know, we've said this a thousands times. But I'm truly and genuinely in love with you. So much so that it hurts sometimes.
I know some people have asked as how we know we're in love with each other when we've never been with anyone else. But I know no one could ever make me feel the way you do. It's a little crazy, but I believe we were meant for each other. That we're destined to spend the rest of our lives together.
I don't know why, but I've just been thinking so much lately. Ever since we moved in together, and then adopted little Bear-the best kitten ever, and I don't know. I just realized how much you mean to me. Just hearing your voice, especially in the morning as you sing in the shower when you think I'm still asleep- I'm never asleep Boo. My heart swells and I feel warm all over.
I don't know why I felt the need to tell you all this. Why I needed to write this down just so that you know. Maybe I'm a little crazy, but. I just wanted you to know that I'm ready to spend forever with you when you are. x
Louis couldn't stop himself from rushing to the bedroom in tears and asking Harry to marry him even if he tried.
~I'm not afraid, anymore
I'm not afraid
Forever is a long time
But I wouldn't mind spending it by your side
Tell me everyday I get to wake up to that smile
I wouldn't mind it at all
I wouldn't mind it at all~
"Oh God I think I'm going to be sick," Harry said covering his mouth.
Anne just laughed, putting her hands on her son's shoulders to calm him down. "You're going to be just fine. We all knew this was going to happen someday. It's the next step to forever remember? That what you two told Jay and I."
Harry nodded. "Right. Forever." Then he smiled. "This really is it isn't it?"
Anne nodded. "You already have a home, a pet, jobs, this is the next step to starting your lives together."
Harry just laughed. "We've been together our whole lives."
"Then why are you so nervous?"
"I don't know. I have no reason to be. I know I love him. I know I'm ready for this. I just, I want to know that I get to wake up and see his smile every single day. I want to know that till death do us part he's mine. I want the world to know he's mine. How lucky I am."
Anne smiled and hugged Harry. "You can do this."And he did. He made his way down the aisle and he and Louis confessed their love in front of all their friends and family and said 'I do' becoming Mr. and Mr. Tomlinson.
As the evening went on Harry was chatting with family when Louis swapped in, grabbing Harry by the waist and pulling him flush against his body. "Hello there Mr.Tomlinson," He smiled.
Harry blushed. "I still can't believe you convinced me to take your last name."
"You love it."
"I love you."
Louis kissed Harry softly. "I love you too ya know."
Harry rested his head on Louis shoulder, his arms wrapped around him tightly, Louis' following suit. There were as physically close to one another as two people could get. They could hear people cooing, and the photographer taking pictures, but didn't care one bit. "Forever right?"
"Forever," Louis whispered.
~You so know me
Pinch me gently
I can hardly breathe
Forever is a long, long time
But I wouldn't mind spending it by your side
Tell me everyday I get to wake up to that smile~
Louis sat on the porch swing, watching his two kids play in the yard. He smiled, leaning back and closing his eyes for a brief moment. "Room for one more?"
Louis opened his eyes to see Harry standing there smiling at him with two cups of tea in his hands. "Always."
Harry sat beside Louis, handing him one of the cups and curled into his side, tucking his feet underneath himself, sighing in content as Louis' arm wrapped around him. "They're too cute," Harry laughed as the little ones ran after one another playing tag. They had twin girls a few years ago. Alexis and Jamie.
"But boy are they a handful," Louis added, taking a sip before looking at Harry. "But I'm glad we're doing this together though."
Harry chuckled. "We were always meant to weren't we?"
Louis stuck his tongue out, "Shush you."
Harry sighed and watched their girls play some more, waving when they saw their Dad's watching them. "Hey Lou?"
Harry could feel Louis shake his head, knowing what was coming. "You want another kid don't you?"
"You know me so well," Harry smirked.
Louis pinched his side fondly. "You're a dork."
"You love me though."
"We'll obviously," Louis said pulling on Harry's wedding band.
The girls came running up complaining of hunger. They ate dinner together, laughing and then playing. The girls running as Louis and Harry chased them, getting out the rest of their energy before tucking them in. Louis bit his lip and smiled, his face radiating with fond as he watched Harry assure Jamie there was no monsters in their room. He pretended to put a magic bubble around her to protect her, and pointed to the monitor on the shelf, assuring her that if anything were to happen, he and Louis would be there in a flash.
Once they were asleep Louis and Harry curled up in bed together. Lips attached, hans wandering. Not in a sexual manner, just a soft loving touch. A comfort. Neither could believe the effect they still had on one another after all these years. Goosebumps rising, skin flushing, hearts racing. "What's your favorite thing about our life right now?" Louis said quietly, so quietly Harry almost missed it. This usually happened when they couldn't sleep. They would whisper to each other for hours until sleep finally came.
"I love everything. But my favorite is seeing your smile every morning. Knowing that you're there. That I'm truly spending my life with you."
Louis smiled and kissed him. "We're spending forever with each other, remember?"
"Forever's an awfully long time," Harry smiled.
Louis put his hand on Harry's cheek, both their hearts skipping a beat, and kissed him softly, slowly. "I don't mind spending it with you though."
~I wouldn't mind it at all
I wouldn't mind it at all~
Tears ran down Harry's cheeks as he sat on the edge of his bed, looking through his photo album of him and Louis over the years. He stared at the photo from their wedding day, as they hugged each other closely, eyes closed, hands flat on each other's backs. "I love you so much Lou," He choked out, hand gently tracing Louis' features on the picture of him smiling at Harry, head on his pillow and hair a mess.
Louis had passed away just last year. No one saw it coming. All Harry knows is he went to they went to bed, but Louis never woke up in the morning. Jamie, Alexis, and their son Jake stayed with Harry for a few weeks. Helping to take care of everything, especially him.
Harry coughed into his hand, eyes drooping. He was diagnosed with stage III lung cancer just a few months ago. He chose not to fight. He didn't have the strength in him to fight. His kids cried, but he was okay. He was ready to see Louis again.
He continued to flip through the album, smiling at the photos, his heart still swelling just the same as it always has. When he got to the end he just stared at the last photo. It was from a few weeks before Louis passed. The kids had taken them to the store to help get things for a party that weekend. Harry and Louis were in the scooters racing each other down the aisle. The photo was taken after they stopped. They were next to each other, smiles on their faces as they tried to catch their breath, foreheads touching as they just stared at one another.
Harry placed the album on the table and laid back in bed. He was weak. He was tired. He was ready. Louis was waiting. Harry smiled as tears ran down his cheeks. He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths. "Forever's an awfully long time Lou. But God, do I want to spend it with you."
Neither ever minded. They didn't care one bit. And as Harry passed away that night, he smiled as Louis was other the other side, hand out for him to take.
Yes, forever is a long time indeed. But that's okay. They don't mind spending it together.
