Chapter 18 ( Turning back the tides)
Reader's P.O.V.
I had waited in my room for a while as Lapis was busy in the kitchen. I had no idea what she'd have for me but more than likely she wanted to surprise me with her first dish. However, after hearing the fire detector started beeping very loudly. I quickly ran into the kitchen, the sound brought back the memory of the time I was on that cooking show that I had nearly burned down myself. I could help but chuckle at the thought but now was not the time. There could be a serious fire going on. However, I did not need to worry too much. Smelling the smoke, it wasn't thick or overwhelming. Whatever Lapis was making was smoking and not flaming.
I knew Lapis was standing by the oven, coughing slightly as I opened it up and a wave of hot air punched me in the face.
Lapis: Is that loud noise suppose to happen?
She asked. I shook my head before grabbing a kitchen towel, opening the front door and fanning the smoke in order for the smoke detector to silence itself.
(Y/n): What were you trying to make?
I asked her.
Lapis: I don't know. I don't understand food.
She said nonchalantly. Sniffing around, I caught the whiff of vegetable, specifically cabbage and tomatoes in the oven and a bunch of random smells from a bunch of random foods that were burning in a pot on the stove. I didn't waste time to throw out the ruined food, understanding that Lapis already understood well enough that she was no cook or expert on food.
(Y/n): I'm still glad you were thoughtful enough to try.
I said appreciatively.
(Y/n): And I like your new outfit.
I added with a smoke. I could tell Lapis was happy and shocked, I knew she had though that I might not have notice but the way the clothing of Lapis's fabric sounded against her body, it didn't sound the same as the last outfit she had been wearing so I knew she must have changed. Just like her baseball uniform, Lapis told me that gems could just magically change outfits. I wish I could do that, it would make dressing less of a hassle. Walking over to Lapis, I hugged her to my body, trying to get a feel for her new outfit.
(Y/n): You would be the perfect baker's wife.
I told her before tracing her body and stopping to lightly touch her backside. Lapis gasped lightly before arching into me. I had then gotten a great idea into my mind.
(Y/n): Let's go to the beach.
I told Lapis who was not expecting this sudden decision but she did not question it. Something told met hat Lapis didn't mind going near the ocean. It wasn't long before Lapis and I were outside and I had started walking towards Beach City based on my memories of it's location years ago but Lapis had other plans.
Lapis: I'll fly us there this time.
She had said. Before I could even comprehend how that would work, I felt the flapping of wings and Lapis took me firmly by the hand and lifted me up from the ground. My feet had never been off the ground before so the feeling was odd but impressive. Lapis turned out to be stronger than I though and it doesn't seem like gems are limited when it comes to strength, unlike humans. My only probable was that I wasn't necessarily afraid of heights but more worried about falling to the ground.
We were so high up in the air that I swore that I could smell the rain through a cloud that we had flown through. Flying through a cloud was rather cold and humid. More than anything I wanted to see the ground from so high up and see the people down below that looked like ants. After all, how many people can actually say they had been in the air before. I knew I could trust Lapis though. She held onto me firmly. Dropping me, was something she'd never allow to happen and she giggled at me after seeing I was rather enjoying to the ride.
However, Lapis was slowing down and I knew we were getting closer to our destination. We were descending, the seagulls were getting loud and the ocean beat against the sandy shore. Putting me down gently, my fee had touched the familiar substance that was known as sand. I dug my hands through it, smelling it deeply. It brought back so many memories just like years before. Back then, I had came to the beach one time when I still had my bakery. I took another deep breathe, trying to relive the sound and smell of the ocean. I knew what water felt like but for some reason, feeling the ocean water was a whole other experience.
Water was apart of Lapis and she seemed to understand why I had wanted to touch the ocean again but it was like my feet where glued to the shore and I could take a step. Lapis was wading in the water, I could here her feet sloshing about in the shallow areas before taking both my hands and pulling me in. I quickly pulled off my shoes before the water ruined them and followed Lapis's voice as she guided me towards her. The roar of the ocean was loud and Lapis's voice was being drowned out.
Before I had even noticed, I was already in a deeper part of the ocean. The water was up to my waist. I didn't know how to swim but it wasn't this fact that I was worried about, I was worried about Lapis. I couldn't hear her and I started turning around trying to search for her. I was going to call out but then I felt her envelope me once more and my entire being was set at ease.
Lapis: Don't worry (Y/n), I'd never let anything happen to you.
She said before she pulled me in for a kiss. Amidst the cries of seagulls and rushing waves, Lapis and I made love on the farther side of the beach near my own house where no one ever really went because it was too far away from Beach City. Now our love can truly be washed upon other shores though this time I made sure to use the proper precautions just in case. A pillar of water Lapis had formed had shielded us from the world because right now, this moment only need the two of us.
