Chisum & McSween

The men were silent as they returned to Tunstall's ranch. Emiliano knew that Billy was angry with him. "Cada vez que trato de hacer lo correcto, algo sale mal (Whenever I try to do the right things, something goes wrong)," he thought.

Upon arrival at the ranch, five men stood behind the fence. The horses were commanded to stop; Billy got off the wagon and immediately walked towards Tunstall's house. Emiliano stayed behind to help the others put the materials away. As he finished putting the hay inside the horse stables, he noticed Richard standing outside the house while Billy walked away. Richard whistled and motioned the young man to go to him. Emiliano sighed as he thought that he was going to receive a lecture. Once at the house, Richard motioned him to go inside. "John wants to talk with you."

"I'm sure Billy told you what happened?"

Richard nodded. "He sure did; don't worry, you're not in trouble. The reason why I called you is that John wants you to meet some people. They entered the house. Inside, Tunstall sat on a lavish chair with two other men on the opposite side.

Tunstall smiled and motioned Richard and Emiliano to sit on a sofa on his right side. "Emiliano, I would like to introduce you to John Chisum and Alexander McSween."

(John Chisum)

(Alexander McSween)

Emiliano stood again, shook both men's hands, and sat back down. "It is a pleasure to meet you both. I heard much about you both."

"Well, I guess yer right, John! This man here is quite a respectful one. Speaks like he educated!" laughed McSween. "Did ya go to school, boy?"

"No, sir. My Mother was the one who educated me."

"We were told by young Billy that you threw one at him. Ya must be a good marksman," said Chisum.

Tunstall put his fingers together. "Billy told us what happened in town. Ya boys met with Charles Bixby, have ya?"

Emiliano nodded as he scratched the back of his neck. "I just tried to stop a fight between them. I didn't want a blood bath to happen in Gus' shop; he's old to deal with that kind of stress. I also didn't want it to cause you trouble. "

The men looked intrigued. "I wanna see yer knife skills. That mosquito over there has been gettin' on my nerves. Can ya kill it?" asked McSween.

A giant mosquito was seen walking on the right side of the house walls. Without warning, Emiliano threw the knife Gus gifted him so quickly that no one in the room noticed that he motioned out his arm. Seconds later, they all looked at the knife's direction; it was a direct hit. The men cheered. "Well, I'll be. I have never seen a man with an aim like that! Who taught ya?" asked McSween.

"My Mother. She was very good at throwing knives." Emiliano smiled, feeling proud of his late Mother.

"Yer Ma taught ya how to throw knives!? Quite a woman yer Ma was," said Chisum.

"Thank you, sir." Emiliano got up and got his knife while cleaning off the mosquito.

"Well, since ya both saw his skill. Let's give him a mission," said Tunstall.

 Emiliano's interest peaked, "Mission?"

"If yer up to it. Ya proved that ya have the skill and talent to get things done. Unlike Billy, yer rational and are not quick to temper. Are ya interested?"

"Pray tell."

"Ya already met Charles Bixby, son of Luke Bixby. There has been gossip that Charles got engaged to Madeline Brady, who also happens to be the daughter of Sheriff William Brady."

Emiliano nodded as he finished cleaning his knife. "Let me guess; this Brady man is working with Dolan and Murphey."

Chisum nodded. "He's good."

"Yes, Charles is a bratty man, but Luke is more of a pacifist regarding conflict. Charles might be usin' his engagement to convince his Pa to join Dolan and Murphey," explained Tunstall. "We want you to spy on the Bixby family and tell us everything ya find suspicious."

"Alright, I'll do it."

Everyone sighed in relief. Richard gave him his full attention. "Don't tell anyone that you're spying for us, not even any of the Regulators. I feel that we have a spy in our midst."

Tunstall sighed. "For the last time, there is nothin' to worry about."

This caught the young man by surprise. There was a possibility that there was a spy among Tunstall's men. The situation has gotten even more dangerous. "I will keep my mouth shut and will tell only you all about my findings. Would you happen to have any suspects on who the traitor could be?"

"I'll explain later. You will be given everything to prepare you for your mission. You will be going to the Bixby Ranch. However, we need to plan this carefully." Richard stood from his feet. "I will take care of the rest, John. I don't want you to get stressed enough as it is." He motioned Emiliano out of the house.

"Richard, about Billy..."

The older man shook his head. "Don't worry about it; Billy acts like a kid. He can be immature when he doesn't get his way." Richard then noticed someone from afar. Emiliano looked to where his boss looked. They saw a man on his horse; he looked middle-aged with messy dark brown hair, a short, messy mustache, and a couple of scars on his face. His skin was dark tan due to working long hours under the sun; it made him look older. His hat covered his face as he rode off with the other cowboys.

"Who was he?"

Richard motioned him to walk to the other side of the house, ensuring no one was looking. "Remember when we spoke about spies?"

"Yes."

"Billy and I suspect that William McCloskey is the spy. William is a quiet one, he tends to mind his own business, but when it's about important things, he tries to be a part of it."

"I see, but that's insufficient proof to accuse him."

Richard sighed. "I know, but I can't shake off the feeling of not trusting him. The situation is becoming tense for Tunstall; unknown men are strolling on."

"I will keep an eye out for anything suspicious."

The older man patted him on the back. "Go on and take a break. Ya deserve it." He walked back inside the house as Emiliano walked away.

The situation became dire, and now he was on a mission to spy on the Bixby Family. He had never spied on anyone before but didn't want to break his employer's trust. Emiliano felt that he couldn't do his mission alone. An idea came to him. Annmarie agreed to help him find information on a ranch owner who bought his maternal family's ranch. However, he could ask for more help from her. It was time to pay her a friendly visit.
