Episode 10. Just Help Me!

POV Jack

I guess that was pretty successful. I don't know what else I was expecting. I know that Dream is a great person, I just want to get to know more about her. I mean, I know her last name now, and that she needs to get back to who this Scarlet is, and that she's depressed. I don't want her to be hurt, I know I am the reason that she lost track of who she was looking for, and I am completely hindering her from where she needs to go, but she has a broken leg, I don't want to leave her out there to die. We are going to help her, until she is ready to go back into the world, and look for Scarlet.

I know I shouldn't be jealous, but its really hard not to be when you stumble across someone as great as Dream. I know Scarlet means everything to her, and I care a great deal about Dream, I'm not risking having her crushed, because she cant ever see Scarlet again. I don't even know where to start with looking for her, but we'll sure do our best.

I started to look around the darkness of the room, wanting to see something that I could bash my head against, to try and get some sense knocked back into me again. Dream is something like a daydream, wrapped into a nightmare. She makes me feel again, but I cant feel! I know that I'm supposed to remember everything that brought me to get here in the first place, but if I keep doing that, ill forget what I have to do today to be able make it to tomorrow.

God, why do I have to feel emotional from a girl a barley met? I've known Darla ever since I was seventeen, and yet, I haven't felt this way about her. Well, she is like a mother to me, It would be weird to. But I have known Darla longer than Dream, yet I'm still thinking about Dream. What is Dream to me anyway? Someone who's leg I broke, that's as far as I know, and as far as I want to know.

As I rolled over in a huff, I realized what Dream was doing to me. The reason I thought differently of her, was because she didn't treat me with the same respect as the others have. She treats me like I'm her friend, rather than leader. That's it. Well, tomorrow, I'll have to break the news to her, that I'm nobody's friend.

I looked out my small, insignificant window, and saw that the sun had started to come up. I groaned, and rolled my eyes, as I didn't get any sleep, and today is going to be full day.

As I looked over to my side, I grabbed my tattered, weathered, black Nike sports bag I found in the ditch once, and sifted through the sparse clothing options I had. I eventually settled on a black, long sleeved T-shirt, and black pants to go with it. As I looked to my right, I grabbed my bright, orange jacket, and noticed something that I hadn't before. As I examined the collar, I saw that there were three distinct marks, and one tiny little hole, all in the shape of teeth.

I know she didn't want to hurt me, that's why she got me the jacket in the first place. I miss her so much.

As I finally shrugged off my emotions, I threw the jacket back on, and went out to the middle gathering area. No one was out there yet, so I was still okay. I stood there, and looked at the little clip board, to see what I had planned for us to do today.

Today we had to;
Find something that Dream can use as a wheel chair, or crutches until her leg heals,
 Scavenge for food, supplies,
Try to find a new tent,
Find antibiotics,
Possibly see if we can round up some new clothes
Some tea
Fix/repair the front, and left side defense
And finally, look for something to help Dream, and Ruth sleep better during the night.

As I looked away from the schedule, I started to hear the rustling of the tents, and some even being un-zipped, as we prepared for the day. My face flourished bright red, with worry, as I remembered what happened yesterday, and tying Carlos to a tree. With the deal yesterday, with the zombie mess, and I know that whatever the case with Carlos, cant be good. I completely bolted away from everyone who was slowly lingering out of their tent.

I hopped over the wall, and looked over to the tree we tied him to. I saw that the rope was still tied around it. As I slowly made my way to the back of the tree, I noticed that nearly everyone was behind me, watching everything go down in slow motion. I inched over to the side of the tree, and when I looked down, I saw a sad, slump of a man sitting there, with tattered clothes, grey skin, and messy hair. To everyone's surprise, he was still breathing, and his eyes were open, but he looked damn near dead. We were all taken back by seeing Carlos so pathetic looking, and disheveled.

Although we were taken back, we knew that we had to get him out of here.

"Yuki, hand me my knife please," I asked, she responded with no voice, but handed my knife to me right away. I slid the knife underneath the thick, course rope, and started cutting it away.

All the while, Carlos didn't make a single noise. Just continued to stare off into space, with the air as thick as a pumpkin, one you cant even cut. Once he was loose, he continued to stare into space, but he was slouching by the second. Although he deserved to be stuck to the tree, I don't want to see him like this. He has helped out our camp a lot, and this isn't the first time he got stuck to the tree, but this is also the first time he's looked as terrible as this.

"Carlos, come back to camp, and you can sleep for the day," I said, as Ben helped me pick him up. Again, he didn't say a single word, but he helped us stand him up, and get him to where he needs to go. He had a great deal of trouble moving his legs, but he did everything he could. I really did feel bad for him, although I knew I wasn't supposed to be. No one deserves to feel like that.

As Ben and I got him back into camp, we saw that Dream was struggling to get out of the tent, with her broken leg. Darla ran over to her, and helped her out of the tent, so we could get Carlos back into it.

As we continued to stumble our way back, we heard Yuki let out a terrifying gasp, and we turned to see what she was looking at. There was a large pool of blood lining Carlos's back, and it continued to pile up, leaking down his jacket.

"Fuck, Carlos, did you get bit?" I asked him, as we worked harder to get him there faster. We continued to look at his pooling blood, and Yuki started to undress him, to get to where he was bleeding from.

He didn't speak, but he shook his head slightly no. Although we used to be comfortable around Carlos, and used to be able to trust what he would say to us, but he has been distrust worthy lately, and we never believe someone when they say they have a bite.

As we Yuki continued to undress Carlos around his problem area, we were all looking at him with caution, as if he were instantly turn around, and kill us.

We were looking around, Dream was still not with us, I looked back to the tent, and saw that there was one of her legs sticking out. I walked away from Carlos, and started to walk over to Dream.

"Dream, we need you in the meeting area, an- Dream, is there a problem?" I noticed her red nose, and shaking shoulders, she was holding something, and clearly crying. I don't want to know why she's crying, nor get into it, but still, we need her.

"Sean, its Ruth," She sniffled, sounding as if she was nearly about to throw up.

"Dream, what about Ruth?" I asked her, but I saw that there was a real problem. Ruth was white, her delicate eyes were closed, all the color from her gorgeous sun kissed skin had leaked out into her black hair, and waved around her limp shoulders, as Dream held her up.

"Sean, she's *sniff* She's *cough cough* she's dead!"
