IV

To Alexander's disappointment, it was a slow day, nothing important really going on. He had expected to have work piling up while he was gone, but it seemed it had been quiet. That fact should've come as a good thing, but Alexander was itching to do something, so he headed down to the basement of the building.

Reaching the bottom of the staircase, Alex pushed the heavy metal door open and stepped onto to the smooth stone floor. Although it was a basement, the room was fairly well lit with the use of mirrors to bounce sunlight from the small window around the area. It had been Elizabeth Schuyler's idea, she was always amazing at problem solving.

"Alexander!" A female voice exclaimed as the woman rushed over to him with a smile. Speak of the devil.

"Hey Eliza." Alex greeted, returning her smile. "Anything special you're working on down here?"

"Yes, actually. I'm glad you're here- I mean, anyone would do but you're here so I'll use you." Eliza grabbed his hand, leading him further into what was the hunters' lab. Being the head scientist of their department, Eliza was always experimenting with something vampire related.

Alex looked around at all the equipment as they walked past it, though he wasn't very experienced in this field, it always interested him. Eliza stopped by a wall that was covered in racks of vials, most of them empty, but some filled with a red substance Alex could only assume was blood.

"So, are you still researching a vampire's enhanced healing abilities?" Alexander asked while taking a closer look at the vials.

"Nope, Peggy took over that project." Eliza replied, "I'm researching the human to vampire transformation now. Of course I can't actually observe it, but I'm seeing some success with other methods. It'd be good to know the early symptoms, since people usually aren't very honest about drinking vampire blood."

"I don't blame 'em, I probably wouldn't tell a hunter that either." Alexander replied, choosing his words carefully on this topic. Revealing he watched a transformation just a few days before would help Eliza, but it would bring a heavy load of questions he didn't want to have to answer. "So, what do you need me for?"

"I need you to take off your shirt."

"Excuse me?"

Eliza giggled at his reaction. "I need some human blood to test with, Angelica brought me the vampire blood I needed already. I'm collecting samples of different people's blood to see if it reacts differently." She paused, looking Alexander over. "So I'd like to take some blood from you, if that's alright."

"I don't need to take off my shirt for that, you'll only be taking it from my arm, right?" Alex pointed out. He usually would have no problem taking his shirt off, but doing so now would reveal those carefully hidden bites.

"It was worth a shot." Eliza shrugged. "You're right. I'm glad you're being more conservative with your body though, I'm sure John would appreciate you not undressing for a girl behind his back, getting with her while already being taken and not even caring-" Eliza stopped herself, biting her lip and glancing away "I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't bring that up... gosh, I made things awkward, didn't I?"

Alexander suddenly felt a heavy weight in his chest at the memories of his past mistakes. "No, it's okay, you have every right to still be mad at me."

"No, I don't, I'm over it, I've forgiven you, and we're friends now so I should act like it." Eliza forced a small smile. "N-now let's get to the blood taking, roll up your sleeve and have a seat. I won't take much."

Alexander did as he was told, rolling up his sleeve past the elbow and taking a seat in a nearby chair. He watched Eliza as she got ready, and couldn't help but feel guilt sinking into into him for what had to be the millionth time. It was natural, considering how their romantic relationship had ended. Alex could only hope he really had learnt his lesson and wouldn't do the same to John.

Eliza soon approached Alexander with a small cloth which she used to clean the underside of his arm. She then took out a needle with a small vial attached, and Alex eyed it with anticipation as she searched for a vein.

"Alright, this might pinch, but you've been through worse." Eliza said before inserting the needle into his arm. Alex didn't even wince, I'm already used to having blood taken.

Alex watched as the vial filled itself with his blood. It was strange seeing where the blood actually went. Soon, Eliza stopped the flow and removed the needle, giving Alexander a small bandaid. "There! All done!"

Alex stood up as she put away the vial and needle, and Eliza came back with a genuine smile, seemingly forgetting she had ever been upset. She gave him a quick hug. "Thanks so much Alex! Your blood will be put to good use!"

Alex quickly hugged her back, and she pulled away, a light dusting of pink on her cheeks. "I'll get working right away! Go bother Burr or something."

"Will do." Alex replied with a wink, making Eliza giggle a bit, before he walked back towards the stairs. Alexander decided he really would pay Aaron Burr a probably unwelcome visit.

"Hamilton. Get off my desk."

"But Burr, c'mon, don't you get what I mean? Madison's always following Jefferson around when he's not working, and they have this look." Alexander rambled on while sitting on Aaron's desk, facing him. "I know that look. It's the look I give John to let him know we're fucking tonight. They're definitely fucking."

"Get your gay fantasies out of my office."

"But it's real, Burr! It really is! Such a typical love story, childhood friends and all." Alexander said before tilting his head. "I wonder who tops... wait, Madison's a wimp, it's Jefferson for sure. Why'd I even ask?"

"Alexander." Aaron let out a long sigh. "How long do you plan on being in here?"

"I dunno, there's nothing to do and you're fun to bother." Alex shrugged. "Eliza suggested I bother you, it's her fault."

"It's not Eliza's fault you won't get off my desk." Aaron glared at him intensely, but Alex was left unfazed. Reluctantly, however, he got off the desk.

Alex walked over to the window, looking out at the view that consisted of mostly bare land. "I wish there was something intense going on and some vampires were on a rampage, then I could actually do something."

"Quiet is good, Hamilton. For the most part, people are safe right now." Aaron responded while reorganizing what Alexander had messed up on his desk.

"I know, but you've never seen a bastard orphan more in need of some action!" Alex exclaimed. "Maybe I should fight Jefferson. I'd kick his ass."

"Or maybe you shouldn't because that's a stupid idea. He towers over you, that couldn't end well." Aaron slowly shook his head. "Washington wouldn't be very happy with you either."

"Who cares what Washington thinks?"

"You should." Aaron stated, narrowing his eyes at Alex. "If you're so bored, why don't you just go home?"

"I've been home all week." Alexander replied, crossing his arms. "But I guess leaving early would let me see John sooner..."

"That's right, so run off to your boyfriend and leave me alone." Aaron said, giving Alexander a hard stare.

"Fine, I'll leave you alone. For now." Alex chuckled at the disappointed look he received, before walking over to the door. He exited the room, closing it behind him. I hope John was alright without me.
