Chapter 6 ( Friday afternoon, 2:10)
3rd POV
It was Friday afternoon, and debate class was about to start. Alexander had been working on his debate paper all week. He was sure he was going to win this. Hamilton was sitting near the front of the room with a confident smirk on his face.
Over the course of the week, Alexander had learned the names of the three men beside him. The tallest was named Thomas Jefferson, and Hamilton already doesn't like him. He seems way too cocky for anyone's own good. His soulmate was named James Madison, who seemed to be much nicer than the other. Alex was surprised Madison could stand to be with Jefferson. Finally, the last man was named Aaron Burr. Aaron was a quiet man, and even though he was in debate class, he never voiced his opinion on anything. Alexander tried to go up to Aaron and talk to him on Wednesday, and Burr was nice, but only gave short responses -one word responses such as "Yes", "No", or "Interesting", ect..- to anything Hamilton said, making it hard for any conversation to ensue.
Thump. The door to Mr. Washington's office opened up and Washington strode into the classroom. "Good afternoon class. Today is the day of the first big debate! I hope all your papers are ready! Also, once again I am required by the principle to announce that Student Government registration and elections are coming up. To sign up, just come up to me after class and grab a slip." Washington Informed the class.
So far, quite a few people had grabbed slips to join student government. Most of the kids in debate class wanted to join, such as Alexander, Thomas, Madison, Burr, a Junior named James Monroe, and some other classmates.
"Now, i'm going to draw randomly from some pieces of paper to see which two debators will go first...... Ah! Mr. Paine and Mr. Henry. Please come to the front of the classroom and state your sides."
Paine and Henry shuffled to the front of the classroom and Paine, in the most monotone voice ever, stated "I am Thomas Paine and I am saying that America should give aid to smaller countries during natural disasters."
Henry was next to announce his position, and he was more enthusiastic. "Hello. I am Patrick Henry, and I do not think America should provide aid to smaller countries during natural disasters."
The debate started, and didn't last long. While Patrick was actually trying, Paine didn't seem to give a shit. His facts were quite out of order, and he barely had any emotion in his voice. After just 15 minutes, Henry clearly won. Both the boys sat back down at their seats. Alexander scoffed at how unprofessional Paine was. He hated it when someone didn't try, especially if they were right.
"Alright, that was.... Interesting. Paine, you're going to have to step up your game if you actually want to win for once. Anyway, the next two debators are... Mr. Jefferson.. And.. Mr. Hamilton." Washington Announced.
Oh hell no. I'm 100% going to win against this arrogant man!, Alexander thought. Hamilton walked to the front of the room with a moderate pace. From the corner of his eye, he could see Thomas sauntering over with that stupid smirk of his. Alex was already quite annoyed, and wasn't afraid to show it, clear with the scowl on his face when he looked at Jefferson.
"I am Thomas Jefferson and I believe that America should not provide aid to smaller countries during natural disasters." Jefferson started. He spoke in a confidant voice, the complete opposite of Paine's voice.
Alexander finished the opening statements with "My name is Alexander Hamilton. I believe that America should provide aid to smaller countries during natural disasters."
"Mr. Jefferson, you have the floor, sir." (HYPE)
(A/N) I am sooooo sorry for not uploading! School has been hectic and I've had some issues recently with self esteem and other things. I'll try to get on a schedule now!
