[12] Competitive Singing (Or Lack Thereof)

He physically couldn't take it anymore. Sure, they competed against one another occasionally, trying to get what they wanted as opposed to giving and taking like normal people would. Then again, they weren't normal so it didn't matter.

He gripped at the arm rests, glaring at the screen in front of him. His teeth were clenched, face turning slightly red. It took everything in him not to crack.

The reward would be so much better if he didn't crack. He wouldn't have to listen to an entire night of high pitched princess singing. The headache he got from those movie nights rivalled the one he was getting from clenching his teeth.

Panic at the Disco was one thing, but transitioning into Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance? Pure torture. Of course it wasn't supposed to be easy, but this was his kind of music and he couldn't handle not singing to it. He wasn't alone, but they had to stay to make sure he gave his honest time.

He shifted in his seat, mind racing a mile a minute, trying to keep the urge to sing at bay. He couldn't sing. He deserved to one-up his boyfriend. His stupidly perfect and amazing boyfriend who always seemed to get what he wanted. Not that he could complain, usually he caved too easily for Roman.

Virgil held himself even more tense as 'Teenagers' started to play, the all too familiar tune begging him to just get up, dance, and sing along to it. But he couldn't cave. He didn't know Roman's time, and he surely couldn't cave yet. Roman could've easily beaten him.

'Because the drugs never work
They're gonna give you a smirk
'Cause they got methods of keepin' you clean
They gonna rip up your heads
Your aspirations to shreds
Another cog in the murder machine'

The music faded, giving Virgil a minute to relax. It wouldn't last long and he'd soon be back to his tense stature.

'I'm heavy, my jumpsuit is on steady
I'm lighter when I'm lower, I'm higher when I'm heavy, oh ooh
I'm so high, my Jumpsuit takes me so high
I'm flying from a fire, from Nico and the Niners, oh ooh'

Virgil shook his head. No, not yet. One more song and he could cave. That would work. He'd get through it.

'I wake up every evening
With a big smile on my face
And it never feels out of place
And you're still probably working
At a nine to five pace
I wonder how bad that tastes'

Virgil couldn't help himself, as soon as the chorus started, he began singing along. He didn't care that he'd sung, he loved the music and that was it. He made it. He wasn't sure how long, but it was long enough.

"Ten minutes and thirty seven seconds," Patton smiled softly, setting the timer down.

Virgil shrugged, singing along until the end of the video they'd put on.

Half an hour later, he, Roman, Logan, and Patton were all in the commons. Roman and Virgil sat next to one another, waiting for Logan and Patton to finish conferring and tell them the results.

Sure, they could've told one another, but they'd agreed not to, just in case one of them lied. It was improbable, but no one could've been sure.

Patton and Logan stood the other side of the coffee table, looking at the two sides in from of them.

"Roman, you totalled a time of ten minutes and fifteen seconds," Patton started.

"And Virgil, you totalled a time of ten minutes and thirty seven seconds," Logan finished.

Virgil grinned and jumped up, dancing around slightly. "Hah! In your face! I get to pick the movies!"

Roman smiled fondly and looked at his boyfriend, not unhappy that he'd lost.

"Oh, yeah, good competition or whatever," Virgil grinned and ran off, planning what he was going to make them all watch.

"What's the betting there's at least three Disney movies in there?" Roman looked at Patton and Logan, pulling Patton into his lap.

"Not sure..." Patton smiled and leaned against Roman. "But whatever keeps him happy."

"I don't see why we don't make a schedule for who picks the movies each night," Logan sighed and walked off.

Roman smiled and shrugged. "It's more fun this way?"

Patton nodded and watched Virgil run about to collect movies.

As annoying as Virgil wanted to be, he made sure to keep the movies to ones everyone would enjoy. And enjoy they did, the movie nights were a success, and they definitely had competitions to see who picked next more often.
