How to Be Greater Than the Haters
Today's chapter was inspired by a comment I received on Fanfiction.net. And since this person didn't leave their name, I think it's safe to show the comment here. Just for the purposes of this chapter. Don't go trying to start drama about it if you read my other things and support me.
Now, while this chapter is specifically going to be talking about writing and people hating on your work, you can apply this to real life issues as well.
My first piece of advice for dealing with haters...Just let it roll off your back. I know, that can be rather hard sometimes. Your first instinct is to jump at them, attack back. It hurts. Obviously. And it will every single time. But you can't let it get to you. Starting a huge fight over some rude comment will just make things worse for everyone. In some cases people may be severely injured, either physically or emotionally.
So, just step back a moment, take a deep breath, and let the anger and hurt wash away. Don't reply to them if you don't have a clear head. (Or, if possible, don't reply at all. Just don't even engage with that person, if all they want to do is fight and argue.) Because nine out of ten times, it's not worth it. Besides, we've all got to be greater than the haters, right?
Plus, you don't know what that other person is going through. Maybe they're insecure about their own work. Maybe they've had a crummy day and they've just decided to take it out on you and your work. (I know they don't know you either, but still. Best not to make it escalate. )
There's not really much else to say on the topic. Just stay calm in the face of haters, take a deep breath, and move on.
Sorry this one was so short. But I hope it was helpful, nonetheless. Also, I'm going to try to update this thing every week or so, in the hopes of drawing more people to it. Thanks for reading :)
