Thirty One
The basketball court was quite noisy with shoes squeaking as they skidded across the gym floor. The gym erupted into cheers as Jungkook managed to shoot the ball into the basket. You could say that we were prepared for the regionals but for the girls..not so much. You know why?
Because i was on the team.
Lisa was leading the girl's team on the other side of the court from where i was. I was sitting alone in the corner of the gym hugging my knees tightly while i watched the others immerse themselves in the sport. Eunha wanted to approach you but by the look on your face , she noticed that you wanted to be alone.
She gave you occasional glaces when Lisa wasn't yelling at her for not focusing on the drills they were doing. As the boys team finished up their celebration, Taeyong noticed that you were sitting all by yourself at the far end of the gym so he took it upon himself to talk to you.
"Why are sitting all by yourself over here?" You turned to face hum before looking at your shoes.
"It's nothing really. You should go back over there and practice with your team for the regional team next week." You tried to convince him but he was being stubborn and just stayed put.
"Y/N. I think i know you long enough to tell you that you're not being completely honest with me." He sat directly in front of you making you look up at him. "What's wrong?"
You let out a sigh as you finally released all your worries in one single breath and..you felt at ease. "I feel like i'm completely useless to the team. Why have me when you have girls like Lisa and Eunha? I'll probably just drag the team down."
"Don't sell yourself short. I mean have you even tried playing a little." You pouted as you spoke making a smile appear on Taeyong's face. "Well..no but i don't need to play to know i'm awful. I'm not really the sporting type."
"Get up."You hummed in confusion as you watched him stand up, holding his hand out for you to grab. "What?"
"You heard me. I'm going to help you overcome this. I know that you can do it..you just have to believe in yourself."
You smiled before grabbing on to his hand with him pulling you up. He took you to the less crowded side of the court to help with all the drills that were on a need to know basis. He made you feel better about yourself and for that you were extremely grateful.

"Jungkook, what's going on?! You were doing just fine a while ago." Jaebum pulled his teammate aside and asked out of concern.
The other members had thrown the balls to him to make a basket but he hasn't even made an effort to catch any of them. In fact he wasn't even focused on what was happening on the court anymore.
"Nothing's wrong. I just have a lot of things in my head." Jungkook said as he rubbed the back of his neck and staring at his shoes.
"Well then get your game together. We all don't want to lose because you have a lot things in your mind. Just sit down on the bench and think, then get back on the court." Jungkook hummed in response before jogging over the side of the court.
He chugged a bit of water from one of the water bottles and dabbed a towel on his forehead. His eyes wandered over to the far end of the court where you were practicing your throws. You were occasionally laughing with Taeyong if he wasn't guiding your throws by placing his hands on top of yours.
He was annoyed..
"Jungkook!" Lisa shouted as she ran over to where he sat but he didn't notice. His mind was just on you.
Lisa realised that Jungkook didn't acknowledge her presence so she scooted closer to him and wrapped her arms around his.
Jungkook woke up from his daydream and gently pulled away from her grip. Lisa pouted as he watched Jungkook get on his feet.
"Yah, Jungkook. Why are you being so cold?" She spoke in a soft tone but frowned when she noticed that his gaze was fixated on something else. Her eyes followed his gaze only to roll her eyes.
She quickly jumped to her feet and stood in front of him trying to get his attention once again.
"Let's go and get ice cream after this, like we did a while back." Jungkook finally turned to Lisa which made a smile appear on her face.
"How about some other time? I have something to do." He walked around her angry figure and started heading towards you and Taeyong but halted as the coach's whistle resounded throughout the gym.
"Practise is over for today! Make sure you get amenough rest and we'll pick up where we left off tomorrow!" The students in the gym began dispersing to the locker rooms.
~~~
"Thank you for today." You said as you watched Taeyong pick up his backpack from the bench. He turned around and gave you a smile before ruffling your hair.
"No problem. See you tomorrow." He turned around and headed to the door leaving you in the by the court.
The basketballs were all over the court so you decided to pick them up and put them in the basket before you left. As you started to pick up the remaining few the sound of a ball bouncing made you stop in your tracks.
You turned around only to be face to face with Jungkook. His eyes furrowed as he watched you intensly.
"What?" The questions rolled of your tongue with much ease. He sighed before helping you pick up the remaining basketballs and soon enough you were all done.
'Should I tell him?' You thought as you headed over to the benches which made you blush. You breathed put before turning to face him ready to just put with it.
"Jung-" You didn't get to finish as he interrupted.
"Let's play a game." He didn't look at you as he passed the ball between the both of his hands simultaneously. With just a nod of the head you were already out on the court.
He definitely wasn't going easy on you even though he knew you couldn't play all that well. You placed your hands on your hips as you watched yet another ball make it through the basket.
"Can we stop already?" You groaned as you crashed to the floor extremely tired. The game had been going on for at least thirty minutes and you were pretty sure he was releasing his anger but you didn't know the resson why.
"Was it something I did?" You finally asked after a few minutes of quiet which allowed you quite a bit of rest.
Jungkook pretended not to hear you as he focused on the ball in his hands. Honestly he just felt awful with how he treated you but he was too scared to admit it. You stood and headed towards him angrily.
Within a few seconds, you grabbed the ball from his hands and stared up at him. He sighed before sitting down on the floor.
"Was it something I did?"
"No. It's not that..It's just that I'm angry at myself for treating you the way I did. I'm an idiot."
"Yes.." You sat down next to him and hit his arm. He rubbed the spot on his arm before looking at you. "You are an idiot. All you have to do is just talk to me and I'll listen. That's all you should know. Afterall..I'm your best friend, right?"
"But I don't want to be your friend. Not anymore.." Your eyes widened as he said those words. Honestly you didn't want to lose him..not like this.
"Huh?" He held the sides of your face and stared at you for a few seconds before leaning in and connecting his lips to yours.
You immediately felt the sparks between the both of you. The butterflies in your tummy were just about ready to burst out at any moment.
He caressed your cheek with his thumb gently as he tilted his head giving his the chance to lean even closer. Jungkook was nervous and didn't think you would accept what he did. If he didn't confess now when would he?
He hesitantly disconnected from your lips resting his forehead on yours. A few seconds had passed until he decided to speak up.
"I'm in love with you, Y/N. I've always felt this way about you and I never want these feelings to ever go away." His brown orbs stared into yours waiting to get a reaction from you but you could only stare at him.
You finally muttered.
"Jungkook.." You thought it over and over and came to the conclusion that actions were better that words. Soon enough your lips connected with his for a few seconds before pulling back.
"I'm in love with you too." You murmed but I was loud enough for him to hear. He smiled.
~~~
Her jaw was clenched as she watched the scene from the crack in the door. To make matters worse she heard everything.
The hand that was wrapped around the chocolate milk clenched tightly and swueezing it until it burst. She didn't mind the liquid dripping from her hand or the fact that it had gotten over her new shoes.
All she could think about was hiw she was late, how you ruined everything and how she was going to take Jungkook away from you.
"You'll regret doing this to me, Y/N."
