Crumbling to ashes
*video isn't mine* Enjoy!
"I hate her!" Adrien said through the phone, talking with Marinette. Last night, he and his mother had talked, but not in the way he had expected. His mother said it was best if both stayed separate, only for a short amount of time until Master Fu figured out what became of Hawkmoth. The anger inside him almost threatened to destroy him. He was sobbing now, he didn't understand why exactly they needed to stay apart. He needed his mother more than anything in the world. "I hate her!"
"Adrien, calm down." Marinette said, her voice worried. In normal circumstances, Nino would've been the first person he'd call, he understood the problems of his family better than anyone else, but he needed to hear the voice of the person that would always cheer him up, the person that remained to be his anchor from an ocean of darkness. "Maybe she just needs time to think."
"Think about what?" Adrien yelled back, tears starting to come out. "It's not like I'm asking her to replace all that time she wasn't with me, I'm just asking her to be a normal mother and come and cuddle her child. Is that hard to ask? Does she hate me that much she left and once she's back staying away?"
"She doesn't hate you." Marinette replied slowly. "If I were her, I'd want some time alone, maybe a couple of weeks. You should always give a woman space. When she's ready to talk, she'll talk. In the meantime, I'm here for you."
"I don't need you!" Adrien yelled and immediately felt guilty for it. Marinette went quite and he was sure his voice made more damage than stabbing her once more. "I-Marinette-I-I didn't mean that."
He heard her sigh over the line. "Look, your angry. I don't want to fight with you when your like that. Call me later."
"No," He said softly, the world crushing down into his shoulders. "Please don't go, look, I need you, I didn't mean that. Can you please just listen to me?"
"I've been listening to you!" Her voice came out quivering, perhaps she was already crying. "Adrien, seriously, I'm not in the mood to fight. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
"I can't wait!" He replied, sounding as hurt as she did. "Marinette, I need to talk to you. It seems like your the only one that understands-don't let me go."
"Adrien..." She spoke softly, like she was talking to an injured or traumatized child. "I really, really need to go."
"You just don't understand!" He yelled. "None of you do! Do you think being the boy who every girl in Paris loves is easy? It's not. My father turned out a corrupt, blood thirsty psycho that almost kills my girlfriend and trapped my mother for years, once I have my mother she doesn't want to talk to me and pretends I don't exists and now my girlfriend is telling me she doesn't walk to talk anymore. Living with that on my shoulders-do you think that's easy?"
"You're not the only one with problems!" Marinette shot back. Neither of them had never been so angry with each other. "Adrien, I'm sick of you thinking your the one that always get's punished. I'm the one seeing you like this! I have to see you sob and demand for help, crumple to your knees like you can't breathe! I have to live with that but I do because I love you!"
He shook his head. "Then maybe you should story worrying."
Her voice went silent, then back again. "Why should I stop worrying? I'm doing this to protect you, to help you, to-"
"THEN MAYBE EVERYBODY SHOULD JUST LAY OFF MY BACK!" He yelled and with so much anger inside him, he cut the line dead. Adrien sighed and realized his hands were shaking with such anger he held. It was a mistake, he shouldn't have yelled at Marinette like that, he shouldn't have ended the line. What if she took it the wrong way? What if his paradise only lasted a couple of days because of his dumb mistake?
"Plagg, claws OUT!" He yelled at his kwami who was looking at Adrien pitifully. Chat Noir ran in the roofs of Paris, suddenly remembering the last time he did this on Christmas when he was alone. He eyed Paris closely, at least, protecting it would take his mind off things, his mother, his father, Marinette.
Oh, Marinette...
"Fancy seeing you here." A voice said from behind. Chat Noir turned around to see Green Shell walk towards him and sit down next to him, both their legs dangling from the roof. "Is everything okay?"
Chat Noir scoffed. "Everything around me is on fire."
Green Shell nodded. "Me too. Got into a fight with my girlfriend. Well, I don't even know if she's my girlfriend! I just know that I really, really like her and my heart broke when we started yelling at each other." He sighed. "Boy stuff, you know?"
Chat Noir nodded. "My problem is similar. I also fought with my girlfriend."
"Ladybug." Green Shell assumed. "Marinette."
Chat Noir blinked. "...Nino?"
"Guess you caught me." Green Shell said smiling and patted Chat Noir's back. "I told you I was always going to be there for you no matter what. If transforming into a giant turtle would do the trick, so be it. I don't know why you two fought, obviously you two are soulmates, but whatever it is, make up for it. I've had a couple of fights with A-girl, my girlfriend, and I can tell you making up for the bad mistakes is the best solution and it's Marinette, the girl that's head over heels for you, she'd forgive you and that's not just me talking. It's fate."
"Thank you, Green." Chat Noir said, standing up and looking ahead at Paris that shined. "If you need help with your girlfriend, I'm here to help."
"Nah, I'll probably just say I love her and give her cookies, she loves them." Green Shell replied and Chat Noir made his way to the bakery. His hands were shaking, negative thoughts saying Marinette wouldn't forgive him, he lashed out his anger at Marinette and it wasn't fair. He couldn't treat her like that.
He jumped into the balcony, observing from the window how Marinette was talking with Tikki, Plagg explained those two went way back. He looked at her clearly, he'd never get tired of that face. It seemed Marinette was sobbing and it broke his heart. How can something made out of gold be broken and still be beautiful? Marinette was sitting on her bed, clutching her pillows tightly against her chest, tissues around her like she'd just finished watching Titanic.
"I did this to her," Chat Noir whispered, barely a sound into the chilly night air. He sighed and opened the door to her balcony and lowered down the stairs, turning back into Adrien. Marinette eyed him, then returned to face her history book Adrien didn't even notice was out. "I'm sorry."
"Don't do that." She said, looking down at the numerous tissues around her. "It wasn't your fault, it was mine for not cutting the line when I wanted to."
"You're angry, I know, I'm sorry." Adrien said softly sitting down in the bed next to her. She didn't move, didn't react. He knew that if they started yelling at each other her parents would notice something was wrong and the problem would expand bigger. "I didn't mean to."
"Just like you didn't mean yelling at me? Cutting the line? Telling me you didn't need me?" Marinette asked, facing Adrien for the first time to reveal she was crying. His heart faltered because of it, he wanted to rib his own heart and hand it to her so hers wasn't broken. "I need to be alone."
"No, please, I need you." He said, putting a hand on her shoulder. Despite all the anger she held against him, she didn't jerk back. Adrien could still convince her. "What I said was wrong, I lashed out my anger towards you and it wasn't fair. I'm not like that, you know I'm not. Can you forgive me?"
The ground suddenly shook.
The ground suddenly shook with enough force both of our young heroes fell to the ground, everything around in Marinette's room started to fall. The anger both had towards each other vanished, Marinette collapsing into Adrien's arms, holding each other like the world was swapping them away. She started to shiver as Adrien put his chin on top of her head and held her close, closer than anything he could hold.
"What's happening?" Marinette asked frantically as a shadow came into view, a sickening smile showing across the silhouette and gray eyes shining in the darkness, making both their bodies go rigid. "What do you want?"
"Two of the super hero at their most vulnerable moments." The voice said, it's low harsh tone making the whole room shiver as it continued to shake. Adrien was starting to get dizzy, but because of Marinette, he still needed to be here. Not for him, for her. "What will become of you when you are separate?"
Butterflies suddenly invaded the room making Marinette cry out for her kwami, Adrien doing the same. The two kwamis were suddenly in a cage, suddenly those two were in a cage too. They stood up, Adrien walking and pounding on the bars and cursing because of the pain. From the shadows, the shaking continuing, Natalie came into view.
"Natalie?" He asked, then squinted. "You're not her. What did he do to you? Listen to me, fight him! You are better than this!"
"He was right." She muttered. "You're nothing than a spoiled brat. You only care about yourself and the people you love, not about those who don't love you greatly. Your father loved you, Adrien, but you chose your mother, you chose Marinette."
"Leave both of them out of it." He snapped through gritted teeth, pulling Marinette closer no space between them existed. "This is in between my father and I."
"Which is why I am here." Gabriel said in the distance, a sharp blade in his hand stained with blood and in the other hand, his miraculous gleaming in the distance. "Your mother was so distracted in trying to call to you she didn't even notice me entering the house."
His kneels buckled, collapsing down to the floor, Marinette with him, hugging him tight like Gabriel didn't just admit he killed his mother. Adrien didn't know if breathing was worth anymore. His mother was dead, maybe alive but gravely injured and as much as he wanted to open the cage and run to his mother's aid, his damsel in distress was right next to him.
He couldn't just leave Marinette.
Gabriel placed his miraculous as a bow tie and said,
"Nooroo, dark wings-RISE!" As his transformation took over him, smiling wickedly at the terrified couple and their kwamis. "I found you, Ladybug and Chat Noir."
Their breaths became uneven as they both screamed and everything turned black followed up by the presence of their victory crumbling to ashes.
