21: The Aftershock
Kurapika worried profusely about you. As Oito sobbed on her bed, he couldn't keep his mind off of you.
"We could have stopped it...!!! We might have been able to save Prince Momoze!!!" She cried out.
"It seems the cause of death was asphyxiation. As per their usual arrangement, the guards were stationed outside of the room while the prince slept. Apart from the two guards who were on break, the four guards all testify to the fact that no one entered the prince's room. Queen Sevanchi is pleading her case to the king, believing that the six bodyguards involved all conspired together. The six of them are being detained and are set to be court-martialed." One of Kurapika's guards alerted him.
"May I have a word?" Another guard asked Kurapika as he nodded, still wondering where you were. "You said that each of the princes has a guardian beast attached to them."
"That's right."
"In that case, why didn't Prince MOmoze's spirit beast protect her?"
At the very same moment, you wondered the same thing. But you were quick to draw a conclusion.
Poor Meesee. They must have been so tired... Momoze never did sleep well. And then... And then when this happened... They couldn't protect her... And that idiot Sevenchi took her guards and gave them to that brat...
You yawned. It was late at night and your day had been long and hard. You didn't have much of a choice in your mind but to retire.
As you changed into a short, silken robe, and a short silky night gown beneath it, you frowned. Tears pricked your eyes as you thought how not a single mention had been made of your precious sister. No one had cared that she had died and no one would continue to care as your siblings continued to die.
But you cared. You cared more than any of them. The trickster prince. The naughty prince. The prince who didn't want to play. If everyone was really going to play this stupid game, then you were going to play to win.
At least that was how you fell asleep thinking.
As you woke up, you were a slightly more calm.
"Good morning, my Prin-ssss-e." Beast greeted you calmly.
"Good morning, Beast." You stretched. "Did anyone else die?"
"No."
"How long as it been?"
"Nine hour-ssss."
You sighed at this. It was longer than you had intended to sleep. But what did it really matter? You were stuck on this ship.
"Can Kurapika see you?" You asked suddenly, sitting up straight.
"Perhap-ssss if he trie-ssss." They answered truthfully.
"Request his presence here."
"My Prin-sss-e!"
"Request it."
"Will you dre-ssss your-ssss-elf?"
"If I feel like it, perhaps." You scowled. "Do not scold me as if it matters to you."
"Yes, my Prin-ssss-e." They seemed slightly disappointed in you, but you were quick to shake it off. You wanted to see the blonde man and you wanted to see him now.
And luckily for you, he had just waken up recently and had gone about his duty.
"Bodyguard." Beast spoke to him, attempting to get his attention by flaring itself own aura. "Bodyguard."
