The Department of Mysteries is a clandestine wing of the Ministry of Magic, so shrouded in secrecy that few outside its walls know of its true purpose, or even what lay within. Here, Unspeakables—researchers who are sworn to silence—pursue esoteric studies into the mysteries of a variety of subjects. The confidential nature of their work affords the department a unique autonomy, and unlike any other within the Ministry, it operates independently, free from oversight by even the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

The Department is divided into five sub-divisions dedicated to the exploration of one of the world's forces. Each division functions in strict isolation, with its own research, and even those working within one have no knowledge of the revelations of another. This veil of secrecy ensures that the department remains impenetrable, even to those who are a part of it, and as a result, its inner workings remain as much a mystery as the forces it attempts to investigate.

Order of Lazarus: Scholars of Death

Death is not an end but a passage, an enigma to be unravelled, and here, scholars probe at the secrets that lie beyond the veil, tracing the soul's journey to the great beyond. They pursue the arcane rites of resurrection and the eternal cycles of renewal, while also venturing to harness the potential contained within Obscurials. In their quest, the Order explores both the shadowed domain of the Reaper and the fatal consequence of denying one's innate power, waltzing the macabre line between destruction and transcendence.

Order of Orion: Scholars of Space

per aspera ad astra;
through suffering to the stars

The Order of Orion turns its gaze toward the heavens, deciphering the riddles of the stars and the endless expanse beyond. As guardians of the cosmos, they ponder the origins of existence, the nature of distant realms, and the influence of celestial bodies on the world below. They aim to harness the very power that births galaxies and unlock the universe's hidden pathways to allow for dimensional travel. 

Order of Kronos: Scholars of Time

tempus edax rerum; 
time, devourer of all things

Time bends to the will of those who dare to dive into its currents, and scholars of temporal magic study the flow of moments, from the fleeting to the eternal, seeking to manipulate its passage. They have mastery over spells of stasis, time travel, and precognition, striving to preserve the present, glimpse the future, and revisit the past.

Order of Metis: Scholars of Thought

cogito, ergo sum;
I think, therefore I am

The Order of Metis is where notions are crafted into spells and ideas take on tangible form. The magic of intellect reigns supreme, as its scholars peer into the obscure corners of the mind, untangling the webs of dreams and fears alike. They are masters of Legilimency and manipulation as they endeavour to understand the power of thought itself—how it creates, destroys, and shapes reality. In the depths of their studies, they search for ways to strengthen the boundaries of consciousness and unravel the magic of pure knowledge.

Order of Eros: Scholars of Love

amor vincit omnia, et nos cedamus amori;
love conquers all things, so we too shall yield to love.

Scholars of the Order of Eros work to unravel the very threads that bind souls and understand the full spectrum of human emotion. They are devoted to the alchemy of passion, loyalty, and obsession, exploring every crevice of the heart's vulnerabilities and often blurring the lines between true affection and enchantment.

A/N: Half of this is canon (yoinked from the Harry Potter Wiki page) and the other half is me taking creative liberties and giving them cool Greek mythology names/Latin mottos. Also, a lot of the magic in this fic may be made up and does not actually exist in the Harry Potter universe.
