Chapter 16: The True Lord of Calamity
Sorey, along with his Seraphim, ran as fast as they could, away from the female Lord of Calamity. That's when Sorey ran into a powerful beings tainted domain. Sorey then froze and began to choke on the air. His heart skipped a beat, making him fall to his knees. "This domain... It's like none I've ever felt like before." Edna said, fear clear in her voice. "You're not kidding..." Mikleo agreed, looking around the tainted purple area. "Such intense malevolence... It can't be!" Lailah screamed with fear. They all looked towards the hill beside them, only to see massive amounts of malevolence pouring from that area. Soldiers from the same sides not only fought against the opposing side, but with their allies as well. Edna began to shake in fear. "What... is this?" she asked.
Purple lightning sparked around the malevolence. "Sorey! There is only one person in existence that could have this powerful and evil of a domain!" Lailah told Sorey as the Shepherd slowly got up. "You don't mean... The Lord of Calamity?" Mikleo asked. The air got thick with the hatred and evil fllowing from the Lord of Calamity, that Velvet noticed it and froze for just a moment. "This power..." She mumbled, a feeling that she never felt in a long time filling her being. Panic. "Pay attention!" Her once ally yelled, striking at her. "Velvet!" Eleanor called. "R-Right!" Velvet yelled, quickly blocking. "It looks like the humans are starting to lose their minds." Edna commented, returning to her calm and collected demeanor.
"We have to stop this!" Sorey exclaimed, stumbling around from the intense pressure of the domain. He ran off, his Seraphim following. "Wait! Sorey!" Mikleo called after him. "No! We don't have the strength to face this threat!" Lailah exclaimed. Sorey stopped and looked back. "I know. I'll run if things turn bad. Your lives are on the line, too." He explained. The Seraphim stopped and Lailah looked down. "Yeah, that's typical." Edna replied. Lailah looked at him with desperate eyes before all three of the Seraph's returned to Sorey's body. As Sorey ran to an open clearing, he heard the swish of a sword overhead and quickly rolled out of the way. "Sorey!" His Seraph's called in his head. "No!" Lailah yelled. "Landon..." Sorey called. The general had become a gigantic werewolf with one eye.
"So, Shepherd. You insist on jeopardizing my glorious victory, do you?" Landon snarled. "How utterly foolish!" the Hellion continued. Lailah, Mikleo and Edna quickly left Sorey and got into battle formations. "Now stand up! The chancellors may think you are useful to the kingdom... but I expect they'll reconsider once I brought them your severed head on a silver platter!" Landon snarled. "Don't do it! He's already completely transformed into a Hellion!" Lailah told Sorey sadly. "Too late." Edna said, returning to Sorey with Lailah. Mikleo then asks "You really going to fight him in that condition!?" "Everyone..." Sorey said, standing up, "Stand with me!"
Meanwhile, Velvet and her gang were being pushed back by Rokurou. "Damn! What, got on steroids or something!?" Magilou asked, casting a Gravity Mine. Rokurou just smirked and drew one of his blades from his back, out. He cut through the Arte, canceling it. He put the blade away and leaved a dumbfounded Magilou. "No fair!" she yelled, stomping her foot. Rokurou drew his daggers and launched at Magilou. "Watch out!" Laphicet yelled, casting a protective Arte, shielding the Witch from the small blade. "Thanks kid!" She said, taking the time to regroup and get her bearings. "HARGH!" Velvet and Eleanor yelled, getting Rokurou's attention, causing him to go on the defensive. He blocked the strikes and stayed frozen with both girls. "What are you doing Rokurou!? We're your friends!" Eleanor yelled. "So what!?" He snarled at them. Eizen stayed where he was, already dealt with. He slowly lifted his head up from the wall he was implanted in. His vision was swimming. "Idiot! Don't you remember us!?" Velvet yelled. Rokurou smirked and knocked away both girls' blades. Eleanor's spear went flying and Velvet flew backwards.
"What happened that made you all so weak?" He asked, that arrogant smirk still on his face. Rokurou walked over to Eleanor's spear and kicked it towards her. Eleanor bent down and retrieved it. "I was under close surveillance by the current Lord of Calamity." The war daemon stated, helping Velvet up and going to help Eizen. "Are you off it?" Magilou asked, like nothing happened. "Yup! That little Seraph ran off once the Shepherd left." Rokurou stated, shrugging. "So this battle was meaningless?" Eizen asked, Rokurou supporting him. "Not really! I wanted to see your improvement through the years. "You all are weak!" Rokurou laughed. "C'mon. We need to help the Shepherd." Velvet said. "Oh? Helping the other side this time?" he asked Velvet. "Nope. Same ideals, different process." She replied, running off with Laphicet.
"Do you guys agree with her logic?" Rokurou asked. "Shrug." Magilou said, running off. "A bit!" Eleanor called back, running off. "And you?" Rokurou asked his friend. Eizen just chuckled and pushed him away, his vision returned and feeling fine. "We both know my feelings. Now come on. The girls are leaving us behind and Velvet's younger brother is with them." He said, running off with a laughing Rokurou behind him. Velvet and her group approached Sorey and Mikleo, the Hellion Landon lying on the ground unconscious. "What happened?" Velvet asked. "He won't be purified because of the Lord of Calamity and his domain." Sorey said, giving a quick explanation. "Then let's go deal with this Lord of Calamity." Eleanor stated. All of them ran off and up towards the hill, dodging and Hellionized soldiers.
When they got to the center of the carnage, they saw a lion hellion with a brown beard, claws, and dark skin. His claws were dark purple and his body was just plain, flowing malevolence. He radiated hatred, anger, and the overwhelming feeling in all of them, FEAR. "You must be..." Sorey called, grabbing the monster's attention. The monster turned around and faced them. "So another Shepherd is born at last." The monster said in a deep baritone voice. Laphicet hid behind Velvet, who brought a protective arm in front of him. Even Rokurou gulped. "Hah... so this is fear..." Magilou said, her voice quivering. "Frightened, are you?" The current Lord of Calamity asked, an evil smile on his face. Sorey looked surprised. "W-What?" he asked, stuttering. "Yet the song of death is so sweet." The Lord of Calamity continued, the evil smile on his face growing. Sorey became more and more frightened, his face showing his fear.
Sorey then shook his head and called out "L-Lailah!" "R-Right!" Lailah replied. Sorey raised his left arm and called "Fethmus Mioma!" Lailah armatized with Sorey while his Seraph's returned to him. "Sorey!?" Edna and Mikleo called, confused. "Ready Velvet!?" Sorey asked. "Right!" She yelled, launching at the Lord of Calamity with Sorey. "Velvet!?" Eizen and Laphicet called out, confused as well. Just as Sorey brought down his flaming great sword and Velvet swung her gauntlet blade, both were caught in the Lord of Calamity's hands. Sorey struggled to fight against him while Velvet was shocked that her power was on par with the lion. That's when Sorey was sent flying backwards with Lailah falling out of him. The Lord of Calamity then threw back Velvet's blade causing her to stumble backwards. "You are not wanted here, Velvet Crowe. Your time has already come and gone. You are weaker then I." the lion snarled. Velvet just looked at him, shocked.
Lion face slowly made his way towards Sorey, Malevolence pouring off him. His whole aura radiated evil. "Velvet! Sorey!" Eleanor called. "Damn!" Rokurou stated, his hands shaking. Even he, the fearsome and fearless war daemon, was afraid. Sorey stared back defiantly. Meanwhile, the assassin that was following them before watched from the ledge. She, like everyone else, were affected by the Scarlett Moon, but her more than others. She saw the woman that flew out of the Shepherd and noticed the shadow stalking her. "Are you going to help?" Dezel, the Wind Seraph asked. "Got no choice now, do I?" she questioned, jumping down. Back with Velvet and Sorey, Lion head began to say "How brilliant your purity, your innocence. No painter could ask for a more pristine canvas." Sorey, Lailah, and Velvet's group began to back away from the Lord of Calamity, fear evident in their being.
All of them were pushed back to a cliff above a canyon filled with water. That's when Lion face roared at them. Laphicet, in a last hope in saving his friends, opened a rift to the Earthpulses, saving Velvet, her group and himself. He failed to save the Shepherd though. A large purple aura surrounded the area, canceling out Sorey's. Sorey then fell to his knees and began to throw up. Lailah had vanished and his Seraph's were silent. When he looked up, wiping his mouth, he stopped feeling the aura all of a sudden. The air and sky were back to normal. "Huh?" he questioned, getting up on shaky knees. "Listen well, young Shepherd... My name is Heldalf." The Lord of Calamity said, naming himself. "I wonder how much longer you will live?" he continued, laughing maliciously at the end. "What in the world was that?" Sorey asked, still thinking his Seraph's were with him.
When he received no answer, he looked around, confused. "Mikleo? Lailah! Edna! Velvet!" Sorey called in desperation. Sorey couldn't sense any of them... until he heard footsteps moving towards him. Sorey smiled and looked in the direction, saying "Mikleo!" His smile soon fell. Hellionized soldiers were moving towards him like zombies. Purple aura rolled off them. Sorey got his sword ready. "Who are they? Where did they come from!?" He wondered aloud. That's when the soldiers began attacking. With their new strength, they began punching and kicking the Shepherd. Sorey grew weaker and weaker each time he tried to defend. "Fethmus Mioma..." he called in desperation. Nothing happened. He called it again, louder. Still nothing. Sorey began pushing back against a hellionized soldier, only to feel no resistance. He looked at the soldier and found an assassin sticking a dagger in the neck of the Hellion. The assassin let go of the dagger and back flipped in the air, back to the ground.
"Damn It! Why!?" The female assassin questioned, anger clear in her voice. Sorey then fell down, darkness clouding his vision. The assassin looked at him and tried to go and help. Key word; tried. Soldiers began surrounding them with the intent to kill. She began dodging attacks left and right. She then made a break for the fallen Shepherd and scooped him up. She then jump towards the canyon, only to have an arrow hit her mask, causing her to lose momentum and falling with both the Shepherd and her mask into the river bellow. To the monstrous soldiers, they thought they killed them. In reality, both the Shepherd and the girl that was still alive rode the current downstream. They were free from the malevolence and battleground. They had reached the Rolance Empire.
