Chapter 2

The Quarrel

"I don't understand." Julia said frustrated. All four of them had gathered at a picnic table on the edge of the lake. They had gotten the prophecy which was written down and were trying to figure it out. "What does it mean! To do this task, you'll also have to wear a mask, under the depths of the sea, to the people who call themself "thee", on islands they rest, because it is their nest. I don't know who these people are! Anyone? Nick?"

"Cool down," Nick said calmingly. "We'll figure it out by tomorrow." but, he didn't look like he was calm at all. Always twitching and moving around. Eyes darting everywhere. Rolling his knuckles on the table.

"Dude, you okay?" Robbie asked.

"Me?" Nick gestured to himself. Robbie nodded and the look on his face said 'obviously'. "Oh, yeah. I'm cool. I'm fine. I'm chill. I'm-"

"Okay! You're fine! You don't need to go into great depth with it, we get the crudding point." Liz said obviously annoyed.

"Let's just get back to the prophecy," Julia stated quickly, to clear up the deathly silence. "It says you'll have to wear a mask. What do you need to wear a mask in it's presence and lives under water but also its "nest" is on an island?" She asked completely puzzled and clueless.

"Wait a minute," Robbie started. " Aren't there minor goddesses that are goddesses of islands and the sea?"

"You're right Rob," Liz said. She turned to Julia, quizickly looking at her drained face. You could see a light bulb flickering over her head as she turned to the rest of the group. "The...the... COME ON! It's... the... The Nesoi! They are goddesses of islands and the sea. Each island has its own Nesoi goddess," She finished triumphantly. The lightbulb lit itself and it stayed that way. She looked up. "Why is there a lightbulb over my head?" Julia glanced up and waved her hand, but that drained her more and the light bulb popped into nothing. Nick splashed warm water over Julia's head. She felt even worse. Nick, in the spirit of fun, cooled the water and made a hand, then doused Robbie with it as if he were slapping him in the face. The frigid water seemed to drain Robbie instead of wake him up.

"What is with these temperature freaks?" Nick asked. Julia slapped him weakly and he shut up.

"But...what would explain the mask part?" Robbie questioned, staggering tiredly.

"I heard that they are afraid of real people because of one of the Nesoi was killed by a human for their special seashell necklace. They say the necklace is ultimately special and all gods want it. The Nesoi only answer to gods and mythological creatures that won't hurt them." Billy butts in while chomping on some Coke cans.

"So we need to mask ourselves!" Julia finally realized, exclaiming this without much enthusiasm. "We need to disguise ourselves, but as who?" She finished.

"We can pray to our godly parents to see if we could take their identities for a period of time it takes to get the necklace!" Robbie said as if he had solved a mystery, but like Julia, without enthusiasm.

"Of course!" Julia replied in the exact same tone. "I don't think Hades or Poseidon would let you two. Let's make offerings at dinner, okay Robbie?"

"That's cool," Robbie says comfortably. "Now, Imma go to sleep. Why am I so tired?! Julia, you coming?"

"Yeah, I'm coming. And tired. Nick, before we go, I'm just letting you know that if you ever splash me with warm water I'll probably react like this. That's the opposite of what happened when I fell into the cold creek water. Robbie says when he ran through the cold water he was tired. Switch the temperatures next time. Cold for me and warm for him. Ok, all of this talking is making me even more tired. Adios. Leggo Rob."

"Nick, you okay?" Liz asks.

"Yeah why?" He replies nervously.

"Because you didn't talk at all during our conversation."

"I'm fine. Don't worry about me," he replied. But, he didn't look fine. He kept staring into the lake. It was like, he was missing something important, like he was missing part of him. They were nervous about him. He couldn't go on a quest like that. They needed help, but from who...

"Percy!" Julia yelled across the camp after a long nap and a cold drink. She had thought of him. He is a son of Poseidon and has gone on many quests. "Jackson! Get your butt over here!" she repeated, yelling at the top of her lungs.

"Hey guys, how are you?" Percy replied to the yelling.

"We've got a problem that you need to fix," Liz said gesturing to Percy.

"What's the problem?" he said, highly interested.

"You know that we're going on a quest tomorrow, right?" Robbie asked Percy.

"Yeah."

"You know how Nick's the leader?" Julia asked.

"Yeah," he replied.

"Well, he wasn't participating in our conversation and was staring into the lake. He was acting like that all day." Liz informed Percy.

"We just want you to see what's up with him and see if you can get him ready for the quest." Robbie said pleadingly.

"Of course. I'm happy to help," then Percy strolled casually towards the lake.

"Do you think he'll fix him?" Julia asked to no one in particular.

"Probably, he can do almost anything. I've seen him. Also, we survived Tartarus." said an unknown, yet familiar voice behind them. They all turned around. Standing behind them was Grover and Annabeth.

"Hey, what's up? And Jules, nice voice. I heard you from a mile away. Nice! I knew yelling at Percy with all that would come in handy to someone." Annabeth casually said.

"We just need our leader to be in shape for the quest."

"Percy can definitely can help with that," Annabeth replied, very confidently, which made the others confident, too. They heard a loud splash, followed by another, and were soon doused in water. This is what had happened:

"So, Nick. I heard you were a little tense about the quest. I thought it might help if we had some fun, played a few pranks, you know, the usual fun stuff." Percy had said, running up to the leader.

"Yes! That would be perfect, I'm so nervous. Thanks Percy." responded an ecstatic Nick. So, they created water dummies that looked like campers and threw them into the water. They then summoned the water to splash Julia, Annabeth, Robbie, and Liz. They got mad at them and started shouting at the dummies in the water, while Percy and NIck were trying hard to conceal their laughter. Then someone started screaming:

"They're drowning! Drowning! Someone's down there! Don't just scream at them!" and it was all part of the plan. That someone was Clarisse, and she was a surprisingly good actor.

"ANNABETH! I CAN'T JUMP IN IT'S TOO DANGEROUS FOR THE CAMPERS! YOU HAVE TOO!" screamed Percy from the other side of the lake.

"YOUR HEAD IS FULL OF KELP! YOU STUPID, JERKFACE SONS OF A BARNACLE!" The sea got more violent. "Julia, can you please go save them? Or Robbie, Liz?!" she yelled back at him, then turning to the others, worried.

"Ummm... I can't... swim..." said Robbie.

"I can't bec-" Liz started, but was cut off by Julia.

"Yeah, sure, why didn't you just say so? Yeah, I'll help the campers" said Julia, completely calm in this situation and even going as far as adding a smirk. "YO! SEAWEED BRAINS! BOTH O' YA! YA HEADS ARE FULL 'O KELP! NO WONDER YOU CAME UP WITH THE LAMEST PRANK IN HISTORY, YOU HAD NO BRAINS TO COME UP WITH IT IN THE FIRST PLACE! COME AND SAVE THESE WATER DUMMIES AND GET 'EM OUT OF THE WATER!" she yelled, smirking. They were shocked that someone saw through their prank. But, after all, she was a daughter of Athena. They went over to them.

"Nice job Julia." praised Annabeth. "How did you know that those were water people?"

"Well, I really had like, no idea. I just felt this thought come into my head, saying: Let's see if they figure out that those are just water. It was weird."

"Wait wait wait. That was what I was thinking. How did you know that? Hold on, what am I thinking right now?" said Percy.

"Ummmmm... you're thinking... Julia is a ... mental ... psychic person who ... weird ... Oh, ... it. She ... out. Will you ... reading my ... already?" she told him. At least that's what she heard She didn't heard all of it and it was getting really distant.

"Ok, now try me, Julia." Annabeth said, worried.

"I hear... ... bad... dangerous... Chiron... quest... bad... monsters..." Julia replied, straining herself to tell what Annabeth was thinking.

"Julia, you're only getting snippets now." she said worriedly. "Try again.

"Something like How... battles... bad... Chiron... BAD... Percy... amazing... handsome... brave... and other things I don't think Annabeth would want me to say out loud." she smirked at Annabeth, whose cheeks had grown warm. Her thoughts had strayed to her first quest with Percy on the Tunnel of Love ride where they were almost captured by tiny robotic spiders and taped riding down thousands of gallons of water in a little boat, and jumping over a gate.

So, the next day Nick returns to the group and Percy soon follows saying,

"I think I fixed him, but he's too excited about the quest to tell right now."

"Well, we better get packin' for the quest!" Nick exclaims with glee. He runs off with Percy, who will be helping him pack.

"Well, then. Look who's feeling better now that her boyfriend is acting fine." Says Juliana, in her usual sassy way. The flawless face was caked in a lot of makeup. She had deep purple eyeshadow, and bright pink lipstick.

"JULIANA! I thought I told you to stay away from me and my friends! Also, who invited the clown bunch?" screams Julia at the top of her lungs, but maintaining a cool demeanor after literally cursing her with power from her mother, or something like that. Their last run-in hadn't gone very well:

"Hey, little 'un. Do you need some help?" Juliana had said to a camper who had just arrived a few hours ago. She was also a daughter of Aphrodite- Drew.

"Juliana, step aside. This isn't your job to handle, it-" Piper, the head of the Aphrodite cabin starts to say.

"Juliana! I need you in my office, NOW!" says Chiron through a Iris message that had appeared from the other side of Camp.

"B-b-b-but, what did I do?" Juliana responds.

"Enough that this 'little 'un' here has to tell me, and even worse, cry while telling me." says Chiron, stepping aside to reveal Julia, with obviously real tears streaking down her face.

"Oh my gods! You little snitch! I warned you about what would happen if you told!" Yells Juliana when she gets to Chiron's office, obviously oblivious to his presence.

Then, realizing her mistake, she turned a shade of red that would have made her mother want to sew her face into fabric.

"Juliana! You were summoned for bullying and threatening Julia here. DO NOT make me lose my patience with you before we even start, as I suspect I will later on." Chiron snaps at Juliana, barely maintaining his patience.

"B-b-but... SHE bullied me first! Look at those fake tears! She just wants me in trouble!" Says Juliana, making Julia not only furious, but break into a fresh wave of tears.

"Chiron, sir, if I may have a say in this part of the conversation," Speaks up an almost invisible Mr. D. "I have been watching Julie, because of the prophecy and quest, and I must admit, Juliana was the first to throw an insult. It wasn't until the subject of parents got brought up that Julie broke into tears, though. I was watching the entire thing." He says to a pale Juliana, "I suppose that Juliana will have something to say, probably lies, though," Mr. D. says turning to Chiron.

A no longer crying Julia shrugs and says, "First, my name's Julia. Also, look, I didn't mean to get anyone in trouble, it's just that this happened right before dinner and I didn't hear the dinner bell ring so I ran into my cabin and yelled around for Annabeth, who supposedly responded; this is where you come in, Chiron," says Julia, turning to face him, "He said, 'Yes?' so I thought it was Annabeth and spilled all of the bad things on my mind out to him. I didn't realize it was you, Chiron." then, turning to Juliana, says, "I'm sorry, even if I have nothing to be sorry for."

"Thank you, finally." says Juliana in her usual snooty way, no longer pale, either.

Julia looks up with suddenly swimming golden eyes.

"You dare insult me, my brother, my mother or father? Well, then I, with the power of Athena and Ares guiding me, I WILL DESTROY YOU!

At this, Juliana looked terrified, while Chiron and Mr. D were just confused. She looked as though she would drop and faint. Julia rubbed her temples, then her eyes, which returned to their normal color.

Then, turning to Juliana, screams-

"Well? Don't you have anything to say? NO? GOOD! GO! DIDN'T YOU HEAR MY BROTHER TALKING THROUGH ME?" Even after that, Julia was on the verge of crying. As soon as Juliana leaves, she explodes into tears. So, this meeting probably invoked huge terror in Juliana. Or... not. But it was definitely confusing the camp directors.
