"Ma Kìra! Kìra." Ka'un caught her in a bad mood. Luckily, he didn't get too worried. He just smiled.

"Come on, I think... I know something that'll cheer you up." He said calmly, grabbing her hand loosely, walking a little fast for her.

They come to an open space where the children are gathered, practicing their skills with a bow, already so well so young. They had targets too, blunt tipped arrows. They chased each other around with toys in figures of animals, wooden and woven. Noisy little things.

A warmth spread in her, a nostalgic feeling. It brought her back to a time when things were alright. Maybe not perfect. She smiled, just a little.

And then they noticed her, bright eyes and smiles paused on her. And then the smiles formed on their faces as they saw a warrior and the alien from far away. They scampered up patting her leg for attention.

"Nga zola'u ftu peseng?" One of them asked.

"Fyape fko syaw ngaru?" Another inquired.

Their questions and observations turned into noise as they swarmed her and Ka'un.

Ka'un did his best to answer their questions while Kyra gushed over how adorable and small they were. Ka'un hoisted the most quiet one on his shoulders to get them some breathing room. One of the kids handed Kyra a toy of theirs and they dragged her further into their little circle.

She tried to answer their questions the best she could while they all listened intently.

"Tupe lolu tsatutan hu ngati?"(who was that man with you?) one small boy asked. His question was encouraged by the others who clicked with agreement.

Kyra scrambled to find an answer.

"Po... poanìri lolu... oeyä tsmukan. Kereypay."(he... he was... my brother. Not by blood.) she answered the same as before. Ka'un swept in and shooed them off.

"Nìtam aysìpawm. Kä uvan si."(enough questions, go play.) he chuckled and put down the quiet one.

He focused on Kyra's face with his deep green eyes and smiled.

"Nìn!" He chuckled, "ngati lolu lrrtok seri!"(look! You're smiling!) he chuckled lightly and they both started to laugh.

"Irayo, ma Ka'un. I needed this." She said softly, almost bashfully.

"Anytime." He replied. The pair walked into hometree and the day carried on, just a little brighter than before.

It was kind of him. She didn't want to really be happy, she was supposed to be mourning. She was supposed to be alone or dead. Without John? Without earth, her squad, her purpose? What even happened?

She caught Jake when he had some downtime, he was trying to make something. Watching how the cooks would tend the fire and cook things on shifts, continuously. Like hotpot. Kyra couldn't remember much of home and family life, but her mother would force the family together one night every so often for hotpot. They'd boil water or a solution and cook vegetables that were homegrown, meat when they could afford it, mostly tofu. Eat it over rice.

"Hey. Jake." She sat next to him while he wrapped up a meal or something.

"What's up?" He asked, looking up briefly from his wrap.

"Do you uh... what year is it?" She asked warily.

Jake looked up at her in surprise for a moment.

"Twenty-one fifty-four. Why?" He asked with a small smile. Unknowing.

The wind is knocked out of Kyra. She sits there stunned for a few moments.

"What?" Jake asked, bumping her arm.

"It was 2055 when I died." She said hollowly. She lurches forward, clutching her ribs, a nauseous feeling spread through her body.

Jake scoffs at first, but then she doesn't say anything.

"Wait. No. You're serious? I thought you were an avatar driver." He stated in disbelief.

"I'm... an experiment. The war! It ended, right? What happened?" She asked, suddenly. Sitting upright and sternly looking at Jake.

"Which one?" Jake asked, scratching his head, "it was almost a hundred years ago... well obviously we won because we'd probably all be dead otherwise." Jake said with a nervous smile.

"Right. So... oh man... it's just a lot." She leaned against the root of the tree, just losing herself in a feeling. It felt like "Us and Them" by Pink Floyd was just playing in her mind with "Strawberry Fields Forever" mixed with memories and horrific scenes she'd repressed. She's over one hundred years old. All she knows, all she was, is so long gone. Her parents, her family, her grandma's baking recipe for cookies. Life had moved on without her with such ease. How could she let this happen.

She just sat there until Jake was pulled away by Neytiri.

Until Tsu'tey walked over.

"Demon, get up." He said gruffly. He looked down at her, over her eyes and face. How she was slumped against the trunk of the root, her head rolled back, eyes wide open, tears brimming, mouth partially open. He knelt next to her.

"Ma Kìra." He tried to snap her out of it.

"Look at me." He said, "Nìn oeti." He repeated. He was getting frustrated and concerned. He grabbed her arm and shook her lightly. Her head rolled forward to a stop. She looked through him.

"I've lost... everything." She whispered. An exhausted look was in her eyes.

"Za'u. Nga Tsìyurokx. Oel pìylltxe hu Tsahìkit."(come, you will rest. I will speak with Tsahik.) he said softly, helping Kyra to her feet and getting her into a hammock.
