Numb Love
Maybe forcing yourself to love someone is a lot like being numb:
I'm eating this ice cream,
And I'm having to remind myself it's frozen,
Because while I know it is cold
I can't feel it's burn.
My tongue rubs over the blisters on the roof of my mouth.
I whisper
'This is cold'
But it's more of a question than a statement.
I have become numb to a natural element.
I'm mouthing the words
'I love you'
Sound is leaving my mouth,
I can see my throat vibrating in the reflection of a mirror,
But I don't feel the words.
It's like I'm saying
'I you"
Because the love seems nonexistent.
I've become numb to the phrase;
I can't force myself to love you.
