SEDGEWICK

SYNOPSIS - Sedgwick x masc reader, but your relationship is secret / basically a date night

It was dark out, and you felt cold. Your coat gave you fickle warmth - the wind snuck and weaved its way under your skin, and it was tricky like that even as you rode, windows wound up and clothes wrapped around you tight. A storm had been threatening all day; it seemed to be finally making an appearance, little raindrops spattering on the roof.

You could sense the cab driver watching you through the rear view mirror. "Got your gladrags on tonight, aye son?" He said in a roughish way, a toothpick or some other chew jutting from his lip, "meeting with some pretty doll no doubt."

"Oh, yeah, something like that." You said, resting your chin in your hands and your elbow on the car door. The spring of nerves flitting through your stomach came as no surprise - it'd plagued you many times before - but the feeling of impending doom still caught you off guard every time it pounded through your heart. You were not a man of pessimism but the worst came to mind.

He was a special thing. He was safe.

How soon would it be until he he no longer was?

You exhaled with a bit of a jitter. You were almost at your destination - Lackadaisy. Despite it's downfall in recent times, was still a good place to have yourself a drink.

And, of course, it came with Sedgewick. That was quite a perk.

When you exited the cab, you didn't waste a moment, the sound of your shoes on the wet pavement echoing your haste as you hurried inside The Little Daisy Café. You shut the door behind you with as much silence as you could muster - that not being all so much - and turned to face the room with a sigh.

Sedgewick. There he stood, hair slick with rain and smiling. You smiled, too, and you took a step forward towards him, and he grabbed your hand and pulled you out of the city's eyeshot. Back pressed into a wall, Sedgewick kissed you.
He'd done it many times before. Countless. But it still gave you the same rush as if in ecstasy, and you grabbed his collar and kissed him back, bruising his lips over his.

Maybe it was because of the privacy and secrecy of it all that you felt emboldened and confident. You never would have done something like this without that cover of darkness that you threw over your love affair. It was good. It was perfect.

"Care for a drink before we head off?" Sedgewick asked as you fell apart, panting quietly.

"It's as if you ask me if I'd like a breath of air, Wick." You said, doing your shirt back up without near as much embarrassment as you should have been feeling. Sedgewick eyed you closely, fixing up his own shirt also.

"Well, we really are one and the same, aren't we dearest?" He said. You gave him a look.

"Don't call me dearest, dearest." You sighed, holding out your arm, "You'll only remind me of my mother, and that is not an image I want to be seeing when I screw you later tonight."

Sedgewick made an attempt to roll his eyes - which would have worked if he wasn't biting his lip to keep from laughing at your crude envision of the evening. "If you insist. I hope doll isn't too emasculating for you." He took your arm and let you lead, strolling through the cluttered room.

"Not all all." You replied. You smiled, a little one only for yourself. Sedgewick saw it anyway.

.

You didn't linger around the speakeasy - only stayed long enough to get a bit of wine in your system. Despite all the warnings the sky gave you, the storm still didn't come, and you and Sedgewick wandered into the night, only letting your hands drift together when no one was in sight.

It was a pity the world was what is was. You would have loved to walk about with Wick arm-in-arm, would have loved to share a bit of romance when people were watching. You wanted people to see you together. But it just wasn't meant to be.

Lonely streets and barren hotel rooms seemed to do the trick just fine, though. Tonight, as the weather had scared many off, you were able to walk the streets carefree for the most part. You kissed under a streetlamp. His hand rested on your back.

"...And she has all this big talk of packing heat - to get herself on the paper, of course - but they get her to the newshawks and she's silent. Clearly someone clogged up the pipes."

You laughed, swinging your walking cane in your hand. "I'd be yelling scram at her, but she really ought to shoot some holes in those paper ears of hers first. Maybe I'll gun at her trap, too."

Sedgewick grinned. It was late, now, and you both knew you had to get to your homes, but neither of you wanted to mention it first. You stood, shoulders brushing, and looked up.

The first sounds of the storm had come.

"We'd better getting going, doll." You said, letting out a sigh, the raindrops that had been gently pattering onto your face beginning to intensify. "Would you be kind enough to drive me home?"

"Doll is yours, Y/N" Sedgewick said. That was his answer.

"Well," You replied, putting on a show of splashing in the puddles, "don't ruin your chances of me calling you that. Your flush could not have been more obvious."

"Oh, wow. Never leave a chance to embarrass me, do you?"

"Never."

By the time you got to Sedgewick's car, the rain was coming down in sheets of ice. Your shoes were full of water and your coat was a wet rag, but it didn't matter, because you were smiling. Wick was, too.

As customary, Wick gave you a goodbye gift in the forms of a service between the thighs. As customary, you returned the favor.

You looked outside the window as the streets zipped past. Your home wasn't far away now.

You arrived. Stepped out of the car and into the pour.

Wick eyes twinkled as you waved goodbye. He only drove off when your front door was closed.
