18. The real demons
I thought it was the dragons I had to slay,
How was I to know that even demons walk in the day?
I cut one down, but there were more,
Each came crashing through the door.
Above and below, everywhere,
They too were scathed and scarred with wear and tear.
And then I realised that these wounded souls,
Were too hauled by wolves, had lives black as coals.
Because the real demons were hiding in the night,
Away from the sun, away from the blinding light.
These souls were my foes, they were beautiful and new,
But ugly on the inside, just like you.
