VICTOR GOZAR WAS A TROUBLED KID, just like any other demigod.  He would pick fights at school (kids really need to learn how to shut up sometimes), not to mention get kicked out of school.  Luckily, his family was very loving.  Otherwise, he would've been sent away to some preparatory school for the snobby and rich.

What made matters worse was that he was the son of Ares.  It wasn't like he asked for his mother to date a Greek god and be abandoned when she got pregnant. 
His mom eventually married once he was born.  His step - father, Peter, was a great dad, better than what Ares would ever be.  Victor vowed to never meet the god of war himself, no matter the circumstances.

But that promise was about to be hard to keep when Percy Jackson comes to Camp Half - Blood, who accidentally causes a war when he "steals" Zeus' bolt.
